And|strong="G1161" Paul|strong="G3972", earnestly beholding|strong="G0816" the council|strong="G4892", said|strong="G2036", Men|strong="G0435" and brethren|strong="G0080", I|strong="G1473" have lived|strong="G4176" in all|strong="G3956" good|strong="G0018" conscience|strong="G4893" before God|strong="G2316" until|strong="G0891" this|strong="G3778" day|strong="G2250".
And|strong="G1161" the high priest|strong="G0749" Ananias|strong="G0367" commanded|strong="G2004" them that|strong="G3588" stood by|strong="G3936" him|strong="G0846" to smite|strong="G5180" him|strong="G0846" on the mouth|strong="G4750".
Then|strong="G5119" said|strong="G2036" Paul|strong="G3972" unto|strong="G4314" him|strong="G0846", God|strong="G2316" shall|strong="G3195" smite|strong="G5180" thee|strong="G4571", thou whited|strong="G2867" wall|strong="G5109": for|strong="G2532" sittest|strong="G2521" thou|strong="G4771" to judge|strong="G2919" me|strong="G3165" after|strong="G2596" the law|strong="G3551", and|strong="G2532" commandest|strong="G2753" me|strong="G3165" to be smitten|strong="G5180" contrary to the law|strong="G3891"?
And|strong="G1161" they that|strong="G3588" stood by|strong="G3936" said|strong="G2036", Revilest thou|strong="G3058" God’s|strong="G2316" high priest|strong="G0749"?
Then|strong="G5037" said|strong="G5346" Paul|strong="G3972", I wist|strong="G1492" not|strong="G3756", brethren|strong="G0080", that|strong="G3754" he was|strong="G2076" the high priest|strong="G0749": for|strong="G1063" it is written|strong="G1125", Thou shalt|strong="G2046" not|strong="G3756" speak|strong="G2046" evil|strong="G2560" of the ruler|strong="G0758" of thy|strong="G4675" people|strong="G2992".
But|strong="G1161" when Paul|strong="G3972" perceived|strong="G1097" that|strong="G3754" the one|strong="G1520" part|strong="G3313" were|strong="G2076" Sadducees|strong="G4523", and|strong="G1161" the other|strong="G2087" Pharisees|strong="G5330", he cried out|strong="G2896" in|strong="G1722" the council|strong="G4892", Men|strong="G0435" and brethren|strong="G0080", I|strong="G1473" am|strong="G1510" a Pharisee|strong="G5330", the son|strong="G5207" of a Pharisee|strong="G5330": of|strong="G4012" the hope|strong="G1680" and|strong="G2532" resurrection|strong="G0386" of the dead|strong="G3498" I|strong="G1473" am called in question|strong="G2919".
And|strong="G1161" when|strong="G5124" he|strong="G0846" had so said|strong="G2980", there arose|strong="G1096" a dissension|strong="G4714" between the Pharisees|strong="G5330" and|strong="G2532" the Sadducees|strong="G4523": and|strong="G2532" the multitude|strong="G4128" was divided|strong="G4977".
For|strong="G1063" the Sadducees|strong="G4523" say that|strong="G3004" there is|strong="G1511" no|strong="G3361" resurrection|strong="G0386", neither|strong="G3366" angel|strong="G0032", nor|strong="G3383" spirit|strong="G4151": but|strong="G1161" the Pharisees|strong="G5330" confess|strong="G3670" both|strong="G0297".
And|strong="G1161" there arose|strong="G1096" a great|strong="G3173" cry|strong="G2906": and|strong="G2532" the scribes|strong="G1122" that were of the Pharisees’|strong="G5330" part|strong="G3313" arose|strong="G0450", and strove|strong="G1264", saying|strong="G3004", We find|strong="G2147" no|strong="G3762" evil|strong="G2556" in|strong="G1722" this|strong="G5129" man|strong="G0444": but|strong="G1161" if|strong="G1487" a spirit|strong="G4151" or|strong="G2228" an angel|strong="G0032" hath spoken|strong="G2980" to him|strong="G0846", let us|strong="G2313" not|strong="G3361" fight against God|strong="G2313".
And|strong="G1161" when there arose|strong="G1096" a great|strong="G4183" dissension|strong="G4714", the chief captain|strong="G5506", fearing|strong="G2125" lest|strong="G3361" Paul|strong="G3972" should have been pulled in pieces|strong="G1288" of|strong="G5259" them|strong="G0846", commanded|strong="G2753" the soldiers|strong="G4753" to go down|strong="G2597", and to take|strong="G0726" him|strong="G0846" by force|strong="G0726" from|strong="G1537" among|strong="G3319" them|strong="G0846", and|strong="G5037" to bring|strong="G0071" him into|strong="G1519" the castle|strong="G3925".
And|strong="G1161" the night|strong="G3571" following|strong="G1966" the Lord|strong="G2962" stood|strong="G2186" by him|strong="G0846", and said|strong="G2036", \+w Be of good cheer|strong="G2293"\+w*, \+w Paul|strong="G3972"\+w*: \+w for|strong="G1063"\+w* \+w as|strong="G5613"\+w* thou \+w hast testified|strong="G1263"\+w* \+w of|strong="G4012"\+w* \+w me|strong="G1700"\+w* \+w in|strong="G1519"\+w* \+w Jerusalem|strong="G2419"\+w*, \+w so|strong="G3779"\+w* \+w must|strong="G1163"\+w* \+w thou|strong="G4571"\+w* \+w bear witness|strong="G3140"\+w* \+w also|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w at|strong="G1519"\+w* \+w Rome|strong="G4516"\+w*.
And|strong="G1161" when it was|strong="G1096" day|strong="G2250", certain|strong="G5100" of the Jews|strong="G2453" banded|strong="G4160" together|strong="G4963", and bound|strong="G0332" themselves|strong="G1438" under a curse|strong="G0332", saying that|strong="G3004" they would|strong="G5315" neither|strong="G3383" eat|strong="G5315" nor|strong="G3383" drink|strong="G4095" till|strong="G2193" they had killed|strong="G0615" Paul|strong="G3972".
And|strong="G1161" they were|strong="G2258" more|strong="G4119" than forty|strong="G5062" which|strong="G3588" had made|strong="G4160" this|strong="G3778" conspiracy|strong="G4945".
And they|strong="G3748" came|strong="G4334" to the chief priests|strong="G0749" and|strong="G2532" elders|strong="G4245", and said|strong="G2036", We have bound|strong="G0332" ourselves|strong="G1438" under a great curse|strong="G0331", that we will eat|strong="G1089" nothing|strong="G3367" until|strong="G2193" we have slain|strong="G0615" Paul|strong="G3972".
Now|strong="G3568" therefore|strong="G3767" ye|strong="G5210" with|strong="G4862" the council|strong="G4892" signify|strong="G1718" to the chief captain|strong="G5506" that|strong="G3704" he bring|strong="G2609" him|strong="G0846" down|strong="G2609" unto|strong="G4314" you|strong="G5209" to morrow|strong="G0839", as though|strong="G5613" ye would|strong="G3195" enquire|strong="G1231" something more perfectly|strong="G0199" concerning|strong="G4012" him|strong="G0846": and|strong="G1161" we|strong="G2249", or ever|strong="G4253" he|strong="G0846" come near|strong="G1448", are|strong="G2070" ready|strong="G2092" to kill|strong="G0337" him|strong="G0846".
And when|strong="G1161" Paul’s|strong="G3972" sister’s|strong="G0079" son|strong="G5207" heard|strong="G0191" of their lying in wait|strong="G1749", he went|strong="G3854" and|strong="G2532" entered|strong="G1525" into|strong="G1519" the castle|strong="G3925", and told|strong="G0518" Paul|strong="G3972".
Then|strong="G1161" Paul|strong="G3972" called|strong="G4341" one|strong="G1520" of the centurions|strong="G1543" unto him, and said|strong="G5346", Bring|strong="G0520" this|strong="G5126" young man|strong="G3494" unto|strong="G4314" the chief captain|strong="G5506": for|strong="G1063" he hath|strong="G2192" a certain thing|strong="G5100" to tell|strong="G0518" him|strong="G0846".
So|strong="G3767" he took|strong="G3880" him|strong="G0846", and brought|strong="G0071" him to|strong="G4314" the chief captain|strong="G5506", and|strong="G2532" said|strong="G5346", Paul|strong="G3972" the prisoner|strong="G1198" called|strong="G4341" me|strong="G3165" unto|strong="G4341" him, and prayed me|strong="G2065" to bring|strong="G0071" this|strong="G5126" young man|strong="G3494" unto|strong="G4314" thee|strong="G4571", who hath|strong="G2192" something|strong="G5100" to say|strong="G2980" unto thee|strong="G4671".
Then|strong="G1161" the chief captain|strong="G5506" took|strong="G1949" him|strong="G0846" by the hand|strong="G5495", and|strong="G2532" went|strong="G0402" with him aside|strong="G2596" privately|strong="G2398", and asked|strong="G4441" him, What|strong="G5101" is|strong="G2076" that|strong="G3739" thou hast|strong="G2192" to tell|strong="G0518" me|strong="G3427"?
And|strong="G1161" he said|strong="G2036", The Jews|strong="G2453" have agreed|strong="G4934" to desire|strong="G2065" thee|strong="G4571" that|strong="G3704" thou wouldest bring down|strong="G2609" Paul|strong="G3972" to morrow|strong="G0839" into|strong="G1519" the council|strong="G4892", as though|strong="G5613" they would enquire|strong="G4441" somewhat|strong="G5100" of|strong="G4012" him|strong="G0846" more|strong="G3195" perfectly|strong="G0199".
But|strong="G3767" do|strong="G3982" not|strong="G3361" thou|strong="G4771" yield|strong="G3982" unto them|strong="G0846": for|strong="G1063" there lie in wait|strong="G1748" for him|strong="G0846" of|strong="G1537" them|strong="G0846" more|strong="G4119" than forty|strong="G5062" men|strong="G0435", which|strong="G3748" have bound|strong="G0332" themselves|strong="G1438" with an oath|strong="G0332", that|strong="G3739" they will|strong="G5315" neither|strong="G3383" eat|strong="G5315" nor|strong="G3383" drink|strong="G4095" till|strong="G2193" they have killed|strong="G0337" him|strong="G0846": and|strong="G2532" now|strong="G3568" are they|strong="G1526" ready|strong="G2092", looking for|strong="G4327" a promise|strong="G1860" from|strong="G0575" thee|strong="G4675".
So|strong="G3767" the chief captain|strong="G5506" then let|strong="G0630" the young man|strong="G3494" depart|strong="G0630", and charged|strong="G3853" him, See thou tell|strong="G1583" no man|strong="G3367" that|strong="G3754" thou hast shewed|strong="G1718" these things|strong="G5023" to|strong="G4314" me|strong="G3165".
And|strong="G2532" he|strong="G5100" called|strong="G4341" unto him two|strong="G1417" centurions|strong="G1543", saying|strong="G2036", Make ready|strong="G2090" two hundred|strong="G1250" soldiers|strong="G4757" to|strong="G3704" go|strong="G4198" to|strong="G2193" Cæsarea|strong="G2542", and|strong="G2532" horsemen|strong="G2460" threescore and ten|strong="G1440", and|strong="G2532" spearmen|strong="G1187" two hundred|strong="G1250", at|strong="G0575" the third|strong="G5154" hour|strong="G5610" of the night|strong="G3571";
And|strong="G5037" provide|strong="G3936" them beasts|strong="G2934", that|strong="G2443" they may set|strong="G1913" Paul|strong="G3972" on|strong="G1913", and bring|strong="G1295" him safe|strong="G1295" unto|strong="G4314" Felix|strong="G5344" the governor|strong="G2232".
And he wrote|strong="G1125" a letter|strong="G1992" after|strong="G4023" this|strong="G5126" manner|strong="G5179":
Claudius|strong="G2804" Lysias|strong="G3079" unto the most excellent|strong="G2903" governor|strong="G2232" Felix|strong="G5344" sendeth greeting|strong="G5463".
This|strong="G5126" man|strong="G0435" was taken|strong="G4815" of|strong="G5259" the Jews|strong="G2453", and|strong="G2532" should|strong="G3195" have been killed|strong="G0337" of|strong="G5259" them|strong="G0846": then came I|strong="G2186" with|strong="G4862" an army|strong="G4753", and rescued|strong="G1807" him|strong="G0846", having understood|strong="G3129" that|strong="G3754" he was|strong="G2076" a Roman|strong="G4514".
And|strong="G1161" when I would|strong="G1014" have known|strong="G1097" the cause|strong="G0156" wherefore|strong="G3739" they accused|strong="G1458" him|strong="G0846", I brought|strong="G2609" him|strong="G0846" forth|strong="G2609" into|strong="G1519" their|strong="G0846" council|strong="G4892":
Whom|strong="G3739" I perceived|strong="G2147" to be accused|strong="G1458" of|strong="G4012" questions|strong="G2213" of their|strong="G0846" law|strong="G3551", but|strong="G1161" to have|strong="G2192" nothing|strong="G3367" laid to his charge|strong="G1462" worthy|strong="G0514" of death|strong="G2288" or|strong="G2228" of bonds|strong="G1199".
And|strong="G1161" when it was told|strong="G3377" me|strong="G3427" how|strong="G5259" that|strong="G2071" the Jews|strong="G2453" laid wait|strong="G1917" for|strong="G1519" the man|strong="G0435", I sent|strong="G3992" straightway|strong="G1824" to|strong="G4314" thee|strong="G4571", and gave commandment|strong="G3853" to his accusers|strong="G2725" also|strong="G2532" to say|strong="G3004" before|strong="G1909" thee|strong="G4675" what|strong="G3588" they had against|strong="G4314" him|strong="G0846". Farewell|strong="G4517".
Then|strong="G3767" the soldiers|strong="G4757", as|strong="G2596" it was commanded|strong="G1299" them|strong="G0846", took|strong="G0353" Paul|strong="G3972", and brought|strong="G0071" him by|strong="G1223" night|strong="G3571" to|strong="G1519" Antipatris|strong="G0494".
On|strong="G1161" the morrow|strong="G1887" they left|strong="G1439" the horsemen|strong="G2460" to go|strong="G4198" with|strong="G4862" him|strong="G0846", and returned|strong="G5290" to|strong="G1519" the castle|strong="G3925":
Who|strong="G3748", when they came|strong="G1525" to|strong="G1519" Cæsarea|strong="G2542", and|strong="G2532" delivered|strong="G0325" the epistle|strong="G1992" to the governor|strong="G2232", presented|strong="G3936" Paul|strong="G3972" also|strong="G2532" before him|strong="G0846".
And|strong="G2532" when|strong="G1161" the governor|strong="G2232" had read|strong="G0314" the letter, he asked|strong="G1905" of|strong="G1537" what|strong="G4169" province|strong="G1885" he was|strong="G2076". And|strong="G2532" when he understood|strong="G4441" that|strong="G3754" he was of|strong="G0575" Cilicia|strong="G2791";
I will hear|strong="G1251" thee|strong="G4675", said he|strong="G5346", when|strong="G3752" thine|strong="G4675" accusers|strong="G2725" are also|strong="G2532" come|strong="G3854". And|strong="G5037" he commanded|strong="G2753" him|strong="G0846" to be kept|strong="G5442" in|strong="G1722" Herod’s|strong="G2264" judgment hall|strong="G4232".
