2 Reis 6

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

1 And the sons|strong="H1121" of the prophets|strong="H5030" said|strong="H0559" unto|strong="H6440" Elisha|strong="H0477", Behold now, the place|strong="H4725" where we dwell|strong="H3427" with thee is too strait|strong="H6862" for us.

2 Let us go|strong="H3212", we pray thee, unto Jordan|strong="H3383", and take|strong="H3947" thence every man|strong="H0376" a|strong="H0259" beam|strong="H6982", and let us make|strong="H6213" us a place|strong="H4725" there, where we may dwell|strong="H3427". And he answered|strong="H0559", Go|strong="H3212" ye.

3 And one|strong="H0259" said|strong="H0559", Be content|strong="H2974", I pray thee, and go|strong="H3212" with thy servants|strong="H5650". And he answered|strong="H0559", I will go|strong="H3212".

4 So he went|strong="H3212" with them. And when they came|strong="H0935" to Jordan|strong="H3383", they cut down|strong="H1504" wood|strong="H6086".

5 But as one|strong="H0259" was felling|strong="H5307" a beam|strong="H6982", the axe head|strong="H1270" fell|strong="H5307" into the water|strong="H4325": and he cried|strong="H6817", and said|strong="H0559", Alas|strong="H0162", master|strong="H0113"! for it was borrowed|strong="H7592".

6 And the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430" said|strong="H0559", Where|strong="H0575" fell|strong="H5307" it? And he shewed|strong="H7200" him the place|strong="H4725". And he cut down|strong="H7094" a stick|strong="H6086", and cast|strong="H7993" it in thither; and the iron|strong="H1270" did swim|strong="H6687".

7 Therefore said|strong="H0559" he, Take it up|strong="H7311" to thee. And he put out|strong="H7971" his hand|strong="H3027", and took|strong="H3947" it.

8 Then the king|strong="H4428" of Syria|strong="H0758" warred|strong="H3898" against Israel|strong="H3478", and took counsel|strong="H3289" with his servants|strong="H5650", saying|strong="H0559", In such|strong="H6423" and such|strong="H0492" a place|strong="H4725" shall be my camp|strong="H8466".

9 And the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430" sent|strong="H7971" unto the king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478", saying|strong="H0559", Beware|strong="H8104" that thou pass|strong="H5674" not such|strong="H2088" a place|strong="H4725"; for thither the Syrians|strong="H0758" are come down|strong="H5185".

10 And the king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" sent|strong="H7971" to the place|strong="H4725" which the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430" told|strong="H0559" him and warned|strong="H2094" him of, and saved|strong="H8104" himself there, not once|strong="H0259" nor twice|strong="H8147".

11 Therefore the heart|strong="H3820" of the king|strong="H4428" of Syria|strong="H0758" was sore troubled|strong="H5590" for this thing|strong="H1697"; and he called|strong="H7121" his servants|strong="H5650", and said|strong="H0559" unto them, Will ye not shew|strong="H5046" me which of us is for the king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478"?

12 And one|strong="H0259" of his servants|strong="H5650" said|strong="H0559", None, my lord|strong="H0113", O king|strong="H4428": but Elisha|strong="H0477", the prophet|strong="H5030" that is in Israel|strong="H3478", telleth|strong="H5046" the king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" the words|strong="H1697" that thou speakest|strong="H1696" in thy bedchamber|strong="H2315".

13 And he said|strong="H0559", Go|strong="H3212" and spy|strong="H7200" where|strong="H0351" he is, that I may send|strong="H7971" and fetch|strong="H3947" him. And it was told|strong="H5046" him, saying|strong="H0559", Behold, he is in Dothan|strong="H1886".

14 Therefore sent|strong="H7971" he thither horses|strong="H5483", and chariots|strong="H7393", and a great|strong="H3515" host|strong="H2428": and they came|strong="H0935" by night|strong="H3915", and compassed|strong="H5362" the city|strong="H5892" about|strong="H5362".

15 And when the servant|strong="H8334" of the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430" was risen|strong="H6965" early|strong="H7925", and gone forth|strong="H3318", behold, an host|strong="H2428" compassed|strong="H5437" the city|strong="H5892" both with horses|strong="H5483" and chariots|strong="H7393". And his servant|strong="H5288" said|strong="H0559" unto him, Alas|strong="H0162", my master|strong="H0113"! how shall we do|strong="H6213"?

16 And he answered|strong="H0559", Fear|strong="H3372" not: for they that be with us are more|strong="H7227" than they that be with them.

17 And Elisha|strong="H0477" prayed|strong="H6419", and said|strong="H0559", \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, I pray thee, open|strong="H6491" his eyes|strong="H5869", that he may see|strong="H7200". And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* opened|strong="H6491" the eyes|strong="H5869" of the young man|strong="H5288"; and he saw|strong="H7200": and, behold, the mountain|strong="H2022" was full|strong="H4390" of horses|strong="H5483" and chariots|strong="H7393" of fire|strong="H0784" round about|strong="H5439" Elisha|strong="H0477".

18 And when they came down|strong="H3381" to him, Elisha|strong="H0477" prayed|strong="H6419" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and said|strong="H0559", Smite|strong="H5221" this people|strong="H1471", I pray thee, with blindness|strong="H5575". And he smote|strong="H5221" them with blindness|strong="H5575" according to the word|strong="H1697" of Elisha|strong="H0477".

19 And Elisha|strong="H0477" said|strong="H0559" unto them, This is not the way|strong="H1870", neither is this|strong="H2090" the city|strong="H5892": follow|strong="H3212" me, and I will bring|strong="H3212" you to the man|strong="H0376" whom ye seek|strong="H1245". But he led|strong="H3212" them to Samaria|strong="H8111".

20 And it came to pass, when they were come|strong="H0935" into Samaria|strong="H8111", that Elisha|strong="H0477" said|strong="H0559", \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, open|strong="H6491" the eyes|strong="H5869" of these men, that they may see|strong="H7200". And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* opened|strong="H6491" their eyes|strong="H5869", and they saw|strong="H7200"; and, behold, they were in the midst|strong="H8432" of Samaria|strong="H8111".

21 And the king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" said|strong="H0559" unto Elisha|strong="H0477", when he saw|strong="H7200" them, My father|strong="H0001", shall I smite|strong="H5221" them? shall I smite|strong="H5221" them?

22 And he answered|strong="H0559", Thou shalt not smite|strong="H5221" them: wouldest thou smite|strong="H5221" those whom thou hast taken captive|strong="H7617" with thy sword|strong="H2719" and with thy bow|strong="H7198"? set|strong="H7760" bread|strong="H3899" and water|strong="H4325" before|strong="H6440" them, that they may eat|strong="H0398" and drink|strong="H8354", and go|strong="H3212" to their master|strong="H0113".

23 And he prepared|strong="H3739" great|strong="H1419" provision|strong="H3740" for them: and when they had eaten|strong="H0398" and drunk|strong="H8354", he sent them away|strong="H7971", and they went|strong="H3212" to their master|strong="H0113". So the bands|strong="H1416" of Syria|strong="H0758" came|strong="H0935" no more|strong="H3254" into the land|strong="H0776" of Israel|strong="H3478".

24 And it came to pass after this|strong="H0310", that Ben-hadad|strong="H1130" king|strong="H4428" of Syria|strong="H0758" gathered|strong="H6908" all his host|strong="H4264", and went up|strong="H5927", and besieged|strong="H6696" Samaria|strong="H8111".

25 And there was a great|strong="H1419" famine|strong="H7458" in Samaria|strong="H8111": and, behold, they besieged|strong="H6696" it, until an ass’s|strong="H2543" head|strong="H7218" was sold for fourscore|strong="H8084" pieces of silver|strong="H3701", and the fourth part|strong="H7255" of a cab|strong="H6894" of dove’s dung|strong="H1686" for five|strong="H2568" pieces of silver|strong="H3701".

26 And as the king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" was passing by|strong="H5674" upon the wall|strong="H2346", there cried|strong="H6817" a woman|strong="H0802" unto him, saying|strong="H0559", Help|strong="H3467", my lord|strong="H0113", O king|strong="H4428".

27 And he said|strong="H0559", If the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* do not help|strong="H3467" thee, whence|strong="H0370" shall I help|strong="H3467" thee? out of the barnfloor|strong="H1637", or out of the winepress|strong="H3342"?

28 And the king|strong="H4428" said|strong="H0559" unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered|strong="H0559", This woman|strong="H0802" said|strong="H0559" unto me, Give|strong="H5414" thy son|strong="H1121", that we may eat|strong="H0398" him to day|strong="H3117", and we will eat|strong="H0398" my son|strong="H1121" to morrow|strong="H4279".

29 So we boiled|strong="H1310" my son|strong="H1121", and did eat|strong="H0398" him: and I said|strong="H0559" unto her on the next|strong="H0312" day|strong="H3117", Give|strong="H5414" thy son|strong="H1121", that we may eat|strong="H0398" him: and she hath hid|strong="H2244" her son|strong="H1121".

30 And it came to pass, when the king|strong="H4428" heard|strong="H8085" the words|strong="H1697" of the woman|strong="H0802", that he rent|strong="H7167" his clothes|strong="H0899"; and he passed by|strong="H5674" upon the wall|strong="H2346", and the people|strong="H5971" looked|strong="H7200", and, behold, he had sackcloth|strong="H8242" within|strong="H1004" upon his flesh|strong="H1320".

31 Then he said|strong="H0559", God|strong="H0430" do|strong="H6213" so and more|strong="H3254" also to me, if the head|strong="H7218" of Elisha|strong="H0477" the son|strong="H1121" of Shaphat|strong="H8202" shall stand|strong="H5975" on him this day|strong="H3117".

32 But Elisha|strong="H0477" sat|strong="H3427" in his house|strong="H1004", and the elders|strong="H2205" sat|strong="H3427" with him; and the king sent|strong="H7971" a man|strong="H0376" from before|strong="H6440" him: but ere the messenger|strong="H4397" came|strong="H0935" to him, he said|strong="H0559" to the elders|strong="H2205", See|strong="H7200" ye how this son|strong="H1121" of a murderer|strong="H7523" hath sent|strong="H7971" to take away|strong="H5493" mine head|strong="H7218"? look|strong="H7200", when the messenger|strong="H4397" cometh|strong="H0935", shut|strong="H5462" the door|strong="H1817", and hold him fast|strong="H3905" at the door|strong="H1817": is not the sound|strong="H6963" of his master’s|strong="H0113" feet|strong="H7272" behind|strong="H0310" him?

33 And while he yet talked|strong="H1696" with them, behold, the messenger|strong="H4397" came down|strong="H3381" unto him: and he said|strong="H0559", Behold, this evil|strong="H7451" is of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; what should I wait|strong="H3176" for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* any longer?
