2 Reis 14

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

1 In the second|strong="H8147" year|strong="H8141" of Joash|strong="H3101" son|strong="H1121" of Jehoahaz|strong="H3099" king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" reigned|strong="H4427" Amaziah|strong="H0558" the son|strong="H1121" of Joash|strong="H3101" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063".

2 He was twenty|strong="H6242" and five|strong="H2568" years|strong="H8141" old|strong="H1121" when he began to reign|strong="H4427", and reigned|strong="H4427" twenty|strong="H6242" and nine|strong="H8672" years|strong="H8141" in Jerusalem|strong="H3389". And his mother’s|strong="H0517" name|strong="H8034" was Jehoaddan|strong="H3086" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389".

3 And he did|strong="H6213" that which was right|strong="H3477" in the sight|strong="H5869" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, yet|strong="H7535" not like David|strong="H1732" his father|strong="H0001": he did|strong="H6213" according to all things as Joash|strong="H3101" his father|strong="H0001" did|strong="H6213".

4 Howbeit the high places|strong="H1116" were not taken away|strong="H5493": as yet|strong="H5750" the people|strong="H5971" did sacrifice|strong="H2076" and burnt incense|strong="H6999" on the high places|strong="H1116".

5 And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom|strong="H4467" was confirmed|strong="H2388" in his hand|strong="H3027", that he slew|strong="H5221" his servants|strong="H5650" which had slain|strong="H5221" the king|strong="H4428" his father|strong="H0001".

6 But the children|strong="H1121" of the murderers|strong="H5221" he slew|strong="H4191" not: according unto that which is written|strong="H3789" in the book|strong="H5612" of the law|strong="H8451" of Moses|strong="H4872", wherein the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* commanded|strong="H6680", saying|strong="H0559", The fathers|strong="H0001" shall not be put to death|strong="H4191" for the children|strong="H1121", nor the children|strong="H1121" be put to death|strong="H4191" for the fathers|strong="H0001"; but every man|strong="H0376" shall be put to death|strong="H4191" for his own sin|strong="H2399".

7 He slew|strong="H5221" of Edom|strong="H0123" in the valley|strong="H1516" of salt|strong="H4417" ten|strong="H6235" thousand|strong="H0505", and took|strong="H8610" Selah|strong="H5554" by war|strong="H4421", and called|strong="H7121" the name|strong="H8034" of it Joktheel|strong="H3371" unto this day|strong="H3117".

8 Then Amaziah|strong="H0558" sent|strong="H7971" messengers|strong="H4397" to Jehoash|strong="H3060", the son|strong="H1121" of Jehoahaz|strong="H3059" son|strong="H1121" of Jehu|strong="H3058", king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478", saying|strong="H0559", Come|strong="H3212", let us look|strong="H7200" one another in the face|strong="H6440".

9 And Jehoash|strong="H3060" the king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" sent|strong="H7971" to Amaziah|strong="H0558" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063", saying|strong="H0559", The thistle|strong="H2336" that was in Lebanon|strong="H3844" sent|strong="H7971" to the cedar|strong="H0730" that was in Lebanon|strong="H3844", saying|strong="H0559", Give|strong="H5414" thy daughter|strong="H1323" to my son|strong="H1121" to wife|strong="H0802": and there passed|strong="H5674" by a wild|strong="H7704" beast|strong="H2416" that was in Lebanon|strong="H3844", and trode down|strong="H7429" the thistle|strong="H2336".

10 Thou hast indeed|strong="H5221" smitten|strong="H5221" Edom|strong="H0123", and thine heart|strong="H3820" hath lifted thee up|strong="H5375": glory|strong="H3513" of this, and tarry|strong="H3427" at home|strong="H1004": for why shouldest thou meddle|strong="H1624" to thy hurt|strong="H7451", that thou shouldest fall|strong="H5307", even thou, and Judah|strong="H3063" with thee?

11 But Amaziah|strong="H0558" would not hear|strong="H8085". Therefore Jehoash|strong="H3060" king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" went up|strong="H5927"; and he and Amaziah|strong="H0558" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063" looked|strong="H7200" one another in the face|strong="H6440" at Beth-shemesh|strong="H1053", which belongeth to Judah|strong="H3063".

12 And Judah|strong="H3063" was put to the worse|strong="H5062" before|strong="H6440" Israel|strong="H3478"; and they fled|strong="H5127" every man|strong="H0376" to their tents|strong="H0168".

13 And Jehoash|strong="H3060" king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" took|strong="H8610" Amaziah|strong="H0558" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063", the son|strong="H1121" of Jehoash|strong="H3060" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahaziah|strong="H0274", at Beth-shemesh|strong="H1053", and came|strong="H0935" to Jerusalem|strong="H3389", and brake down|strong="H6555" the wall|strong="H2346" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389" from the gate|strong="H8179" of Ephraim|strong="H0669" unto the corner|strong="H6438" gate|strong="H8179", four|strong="H0702" hundred|strong="H3967" cubits|strong="H0520".

14 And he took|strong="H3947" all the gold|strong="H2091" and silver|strong="H3701", and all the vessels|strong="H3627" that were found|strong="H4672" in the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and in the treasures|strong="H0214" of the king’s|strong="H4428" house|strong="H1004", and hostages|strong="H1121", and returned|strong="H7725" to Samaria|strong="H8111".

15 Now the rest|strong="H3499" of the acts|strong="H1697" of Jehoash|strong="H3060" which he did|strong="H6213", and his might|strong="H1369", and how he fought|strong="H3898" with Amaziah|strong="H0558" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063", are they not written|strong="H3789" in the book|strong="H5612" of the chronicles|strong="H1697" of the kings|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478"?

16 And Jehoash|strong="H3060" slept|strong="H7901" with his fathers|strong="H0001", and was buried|strong="H6912" in Samaria|strong="H8111" with the kings|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478"; and Jeroboam|strong="H3379" his son|strong="H1121" reigned|strong="H4427" in his stead.

17 And Amaziah|strong="H0558" the son|strong="H1121" of Joash|strong="H3101" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063" lived|strong="H2421" after|strong="H0310" the death|strong="H4194" of Jehoash|strong="H3060" son|strong="H1121" of Jehoahaz|strong="H3059" king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" fifteen|strong="H2568" years|strong="H8141".

18 And the rest|strong="H3499" of the acts|strong="H1697" of Amaziah|strong="H0558", are they not written|strong="H3789" in the book|strong="H5612" of the chronicles|strong="H1697" of the kings|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063"?

19 Now they made|strong="H7194" a conspiracy|strong="H7195" against him in Jerusalem|strong="H3389": and he fled|strong="H5127" to Lachish|strong="H3923"; but they sent|strong="H7971" after|strong="H0310" him to Lachish|strong="H3923", and slew|strong="H4191" him there.

20 And they brought|strong="H5375" him on horses|strong="H5483": and he was buried|strong="H6912" at Jerusalem|strong="H3389" with his fathers|strong="H0001" in the city|strong="H5892" of David|strong="H1732".

21 And all the people|strong="H5971" of Judah|strong="H3063" took|strong="H3947" Azariah|strong="H5838", which was sixteen|strong="H8337" years|strong="H8141" old|strong="H1121", and made him king|strong="H4427" instead of his father|strong="H0001" Amaziah|strong="H0558".

22 He built|strong="H1129" Elath|strong="H0359", and restored|strong="H7725" it to Judah|strong="H3063", after|strong="H0310" that the king|strong="H4428" slept|strong="H7901" with his fathers|strong="H0001".

23 In the fifteenth|strong="H2568" year|strong="H8141" of Amaziah|strong="H0558" the son|strong="H1121" of Joash|strong="H3101" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063" Jeroboam|strong="H3379" the son|strong="H1121" of Joash|strong="H3101" king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" began to reign|strong="H4427" in Samaria|strong="H8111", and reigned forty|strong="H0705" and one|strong="H0259" years|strong="H8141".

24 And he did|strong="H6213" that which was evil|strong="H7451" in the sight|strong="H5869" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: he departed|strong="H5493" not from all the sins|strong="H2403" of Jeroboam|strong="H3379" the son|strong="H1121" of Nebat|strong="H5028", who made Israel|strong="H3478" to sin|strong="H2398".

25 He restored|strong="H7725" the coast|strong="H1366" of Israel|strong="H3478" from the entering|strong="H0935" of Hamath|strong="H2574" unto the sea|strong="H3220" of the plain|strong="H6160", according to the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478", which he spake|strong="H1696" by the hand|strong="H3027" of his servant|strong="H5650" Jonah|strong="H3124", the son|strong="H1121" of Amittai|strong="H0573", the prophet|strong="H5030", which was of Gath-hepher|strong="H1662".

26 For the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* saw|strong="H7200" the affliction|strong="H6040" of Israel|strong="H3478", that it was very|strong="H3966" bitter|strong="H4784": for there was not|strong="H0657" any shut up|strong="H6113", nor any left|strong="H5800", nor any helper|strong="H5826" for Israel|strong="H3478".

27 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H1696" not that he would blot out|strong="H4229" the name|strong="H8034" of Israel|strong="H3478" from under heaven|strong="H8064": but he saved|strong="H3467" them by the hand|strong="H3027" of Jeroboam|strong="H3379" the son|strong="H1121" of Joash|strong="H3101".

28 Now the rest|strong="H3499" of the acts|strong="H1697" of Jeroboam|strong="H3379", and all that he did|strong="H6213", and his might|strong="H1369", how he warred|strong="H3898", and how he recovered|strong="H7725" Damascus|strong="H1834", and Hamath|strong="H2574", which belonged to Judah|strong="H3063", for Israel|strong="H3478", are they not written|strong="H3789" in the book|strong="H5612" of the chronicles|strong="H1697" of the kings|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478"?

29 And Jeroboam|strong="H3379" slept|strong="H7901" with his fathers|strong="H0001", even with the kings|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478"; and Zachariah|strong="H2148" his son|strong="H1121" reigned|strong="H4427" in his stead.
