1 And Ahab|strong="H0256" had seventy|strong="H7657" sons|strong="H1121" in Samaria|strong="H8111". And Jehu|strong="H3058" wrote|strong="H3789" letters|strong="H5612", and sent|strong="H7971" to Samaria|strong="H8111", unto the rulers|strong="H8269" of Jezreel|strong="H3157", to the elders|strong="H2205", and to them that brought up|strong="H0539" Ahab’s|strong="H0256" children, saying|strong="H0559",
2 Now as soon as this letter|strong="H5612" cometh|strong="H0935" to you, seeing your master’s|strong="H0113" sons|strong="H1121" are with you, and there are with you chariots|strong="H7393" and horses|strong="H5483", a fenced|strong="H4013" city|strong="H5892" also, and armour|strong="H5402";
3 Look even out|strong="H7200" the best|strong="H2896" and meetest|strong="H3477" of your master’s|strong="H0113" sons|strong="H1121", and set|strong="H7760" him on his father’s|strong="H0001" throne|strong="H3678", and fight|strong="H3898" for your master’s|strong="H0113" house|strong="H1004".
4 But they were exceedingly|strong="H3966" afraid|strong="H3372", and said|strong="H0559", Behold, two|strong="H8147" kings|strong="H4428" stood|strong="H5975" not before|strong="H6440" him: how then shall we stand|strong="H5975"?
5 And he that was over the house|strong="H1004", and he that was over the city|strong="H5892", the elders|strong="H2205" also, and the bringers up|strong="H0539" of the children, sent|strong="H7971" to Jehu|strong="H3058", saying|strong="H0559", We are thy servants|strong="H5650", and will do|strong="H6213" all that thou shalt bid|strong="H0559" us; we will not make any|strong="H0376" king|strong="H4427": do|strong="H6213" thou that which is good|strong="H2896" in thine eyes|strong="H5869".
6 Then he wrote|strong="H3789" a letter|strong="H5612" the second time|strong="H8145" to them, saying|strong="H0559", If ye be mine, and if ye will hearken|strong="H8085" unto my voice|strong="H6963", take|strong="H3947" ye the heads|strong="H7218" of the men|strong="H0582" your master’s|strong="H0113" sons|strong="H1121", and come|strong="H0935" to me to Jezreel|strong="H3157" by to morrow|strong="H4279" this time|strong="H6256". Now the king’s|strong="H4428" sons|strong="H1121", being seventy|strong="H7657" persons|strong="H0376", were with the great men|strong="H1419" of the city|strong="H5892", which brought them up|strong="H1431".
7 And it came to pass, when the letter|strong="H5612" came|strong="H0935" to them, that they took|strong="H3947" the king’s|strong="H4428" sons|strong="H1121", and slew|strong="H7819" seventy|strong="H7657" persons|strong="H0376", and put|strong="H7760" their heads|strong="H7218" in baskets|strong="H1731", and sent|strong="H7971" him them to Jezreel|strong="H3157".
8 And there came|strong="H0935" a messenger|strong="H4397", and told|strong="H5046" him, saying|strong="H0559", They have brought|strong="H0935" the heads|strong="H7218" of the king’s|strong="H4428" sons|strong="H1121". And he said|strong="H0559", Lay|strong="H7760" ye them in two|strong="H8147" heaps|strong="H6652" at the entering in|strong="H6607" of the gate|strong="H8179" until the morning|strong="H1242".
9 And it came to pass in the morning|strong="H1242", that he went out|strong="H3318", and stood|strong="H5975", and said|strong="H0559" to all the people|strong="H5971", Ye be righteous|strong="H6662": behold, I conspired|strong="H7194" against my master|strong="H0113", and slew|strong="H2026" him: but who slew|strong="H5221" all these?
10 Know|strong="H3045" now|strong="H0645" that there shall fall|strong="H5307" unto the earth|strong="H0776" nothing of the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* spake|strong="H1696" concerning the house|strong="H1004" of Ahab|strong="H0256": for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath done|strong="H6213" that which he spake|strong="H1696" by|strong="H3027" his servant|strong="H5650" Elijah|strong="H0452".
11 So Jehu|strong="H3058" slew|strong="H5221" all that remained|strong="H7604" of the house|strong="H1004" of Ahab|strong="H0256" in Jezreel|strong="H3157", and all his great men|strong="H1419", and his kinsfolks|strong="H3045", and his priests|strong="H3548", until he left|strong="H7604" him none remaining|strong="H8300".
12 And he arose|strong="H6965" and departed|strong="H0935", and came|strong="H3212" to Samaria|strong="H8111". And as he was at the shearing|strong="H7462" house|strong="H1004" in the way|strong="H1870",
13 Jehu|strong="H3058" met|strong="H4672" with the brethren|strong="H0251" of Ahaziah|strong="H0274" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063", and said|strong="H0559", Who are ye? And they answered|strong="H0559", We are the brethren|strong="H0251" of Ahaziah|strong="H0274"; and we go down|strong="H3381" to salute|strong="H7965" the children|strong="H1121" of the king|strong="H4428" and the children|strong="H1121" of the queen|strong="H1377".
14 And he said|strong="H0559", Take|strong="H8610" them alive|strong="H2416". And they took|strong="H8610" them alive|strong="H2416", and slew|strong="H7819" them at the pit|strong="H0953" of the shearing house|strong="H1044", even two|strong="H8147" and forty|strong="H0705" men|strong="H0376"; neither left|strong="H7604" he any|strong="H0376" of them.
15 And when he was departed|strong="H3212" thence, he lighted|strong="H4672" on Jehonadab|strong="H3082" the son|strong="H1121" of Rechab|strong="H7394" coming to meet|strong="H7125" him: and he saluted|strong="H1288" him, and said|strong="H0559" to him, Is|strong="H3426" thine heart|strong="H3824" right|strong="H3477", as my heart|strong="H3824" is with thy heart|strong="H3824"? And Jehonadab|strong="H3082" answered|strong="H0559", It is|strong="H3426". If it be, give|strong="H5414" me thine hand|strong="H3027". And he gave|strong="H5414" him his hand|strong="H3027"; and he took him up|strong="H5927" to him into the chariot|strong="H4818".
16 And he said|strong="H0559", Come|strong="H3212" with me, and see|strong="H7200" my zeal|strong="H7068" for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*. So they made him ride|strong="H7392" in his chariot|strong="H7393".
17 And when he came|strong="H0935" to Samaria|strong="H8111", he slew|strong="H5221" all that remained|strong="H7604" unto Ahab|strong="H0256" in Samaria|strong="H8111", till he had destroyed|strong="H8045" him, according to the saying|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, which he spake|strong="H1696" to Elijah|strong="H0452".
18 And Jehu|strong="H3058" gathered|strong="H6908" all the people|strong="H5971" together|strong="H6908", and said|strong="H0559" unto them, Ahab|strong="H0256" served|strong="H5647" Baal|strong="H1168" a little|strong="H4592"; but Jehu|strong="H3058" shall serve|strong="H5647" him much|strong="H7235".
19 Now therefore call|strong="H7121" unto me all the prophets|strong="H5030" of Baal|strong="H1168", all his servants|strong="H5647", and all his priests|strong="H3548"; let none|strong="H0376" be wanting|strong="H6485": for I have a great|strong="H1419" sacrifice|strong="H2077" to do to Baal|strong="H1168"; whosoever shall be wanting|strong="H6485", he shall not live|strong="H2421". But Jehu|strong="H3058" did|strong="H6213" it in subtilty|strong="H6122", to the intent that he might destroy|strong="H0006" the worshippers|strong="H5647" of Baal|strong="H1168".
20 And Jehu|strong="H3058" said|strong="H0559", Proclaim|strong="H6942" a solemn assembly|strong="H6116" for Baal|strong="H1168". And they proclaimed|strong="H7121" it.
21 And Jehu|strong="H3058" sent|strong="H7971" through all Israel|strong="H3478": and all the worshippers|strong="H5647" of Baal|strong="H1168" came|strong="H0935", so that there was not a man|strong="H0376" left|strong="H7604" that came|strong="H0935" not. And they came|strong="H0935" into the house|strong="H1004" of Baal|strong="H1168"; and the house|strong="H1004" of Baal|strong="H1168" was full|strong="H4390" from one end|strong="H6310" to another|strong="H6310".
22 And he said|strong="H0559" unto him that was over the vestry|strong="H4458", Bring forth|strong="H3318" vestments|strong="H3830" for all the worshippers|strong="H5647" of Baal|strong="H1168". And he brought them forth|strong="H3318" vestments|strong="H4403".
23 And Jehu|strong="H3058" went|strong="H0935", and Jehonadab|strong="H3082" the son|strong="H1121" of Rechab|strong="H7394", into the house|strong="H1004" of Baal|strong="H1168", and said|strong="H0559" unto the worshippers|strong="H5647" of Baal|strong="H1168", Search|strong="H2664", and look|strong="H7200" that there be|strong="H3426" here with you none of the servants|strong="H5650" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, but the worshippers|strong="H5647" of Baal|strong="H1168" only.
24 And when they went in|strong="H0935" to offer|strong="H6213" sacrifices|strong="H2077" and burnt offerings|strong="H5930", Jehu|strong="H3058" appointed|strong="H7760" fourscore|strong="H8084" men|strong="H0376" without|strong="H2351", and said|strong="H0559", If any|strong="H0376" of the men|strong="H0582" whom I have brought|strong="H0935" into your hands|strong="H3027" escape|strong="H4422", he that letteth him go, his life|strong="H5315" shall be for the life|strong="H5315" of him.
25 And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end|strong="H3615" of offering|strong="H6213" the burnt offering|strong="H5930", that Jehu|strong="H3058" said|strong="H0559" to the guard|strong="H7323" and to the captains|strong="H7991", Go in|strong="H0935", and slay|strong="H5221" them; let none|strong="H0376" come forth|strong="H3318". And they smote|strong="H5221" them with the edge|strong="H6310" of the sword|strong="H2719"; and the guard|strong="H7323" and the captains|strong="H7991" cast them out|strong="H7993", and went|strong="H3212" to the city|strong="H5892" of the house|strong="H1004" of Baal|strong="H1168".
26 And they brought forth|strong="H3318" the images|strong="H4676" out of the house|strong="H1004" of Baal|strong="H1168", and burned|strong="H8313" them.
27 And they brake down|strong="H5422" the image|strong="H4676" of Baal|strong="H1168", and brake down|strong="H5422" the house|strong="H1004" of Baal|strong="H1168", and made|strong="H7760" it a draught house|strong="H4163" unto this day|strong="H3117".
28 Thus Jehu|strong="H3058" destroyed|strong="H8045" Baal|strong="H1168" out of Israel|strong="H3478".
29 Howbeit from the sins|strong="H2399" of Jeroboam|strong="H3379" the son|strong="H1121" of Nebat|strong="H5028", who made Israel|strong="H3478" to sin|strong="H2398", Jehu|strong="H3058" departed|strong="H5493" not from after|strong="H0310" them, to wit, the golden|strong="H2091" calves|strong="H5695" that were in Beth-el|strong="H1008", and that were in Dan|strong="H1835".
30 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto Jehu|strong="H3058", Because thou hast done well|strong="H2895" in executing|strong="H6213" that which is right|strong="H3477" in mine eyes|strong="H5869", and hast done|strong="H6213" unto the house|strong="H1004" of Ahab|strong="H0256" according to all that was in mine heart|strong="H3824", thy children|strong="H1121" of the fourth|strong="H7243" generation shall sit|strong="H3427" on the throne|strong="H3678" of Israel|strong="H3478".
31 But Jehu|strong="H3058" took no heed|strong="H8104" to walk|strong="H3212" in the law|strong="H8451" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478" with all his heart|strong="H3824": for he departed|strong="H5493" not from the sins|strong="H2403" of Jeroboam|strong="H3379", which made Israel|strong="H3478" to sin|strong="H2398".
32 In those days|strong="H3117" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* began|strong="H2490" to cut|strong="H7096" Israel|strong="H3478" short|strong="H7096": and Hazael|strong="H2371" smote|strong="H5221" them in all the coasts|strong="H1366" of Israel|strong="H3478";
33 From Jordan|strong="H3383" eastward|strong="H4217", all the land|strong="H0776" of Gilead|strong="H1568", the Gadites|strong="H1425", and the Reubenites|strong="H7206", and the Manassites|strong="H4520", from Aroer|strong="H6177", which is by the river|strong="H5158" Arnon|strong="H0769", even Gilead|strong="H1568" and Bashan|strong="H1316".
34 Now the rest|strong="H3499" of the acts|strong="H1697" of Jehu|strong="H3058", and all that he did|strong="H6213", and all his might|strong="H1369", are they not written|strong="H3789" in the book|strong="H5612" of the chronicles|strong="H1697" of the kings|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478"?
35 And Jehu|strong="H3058" slept|strong="H7901" with his fathers|strong="H0001": and they buried|strong="H6912" him in Samaria|strong="H8111". And Jehoahaz|strong="H3059" his son|strong="H1121" reigned|strong="H4427" in his stead.
36 And the time|strong="H3117" that Jehu|strong="H3058" reigned|strong="H4427" over Israel|strong="H3478" in Samaria|strong="H8111" was twenty|strong="H6242" and eight|strong="H8083" years|strong="H8141".
