So Abijah|strong="H0029" slept|strong="H7901" with his fathers|strong="H0001", and they buried|strong="H6912" him in the city|strong="H5892" of David|strong="H1732": and Asa|strong="H0609" his son|strong="H1121" reigned|strong="H4427" in his stead. In his days|strong="H3117" the land|strong="H0776" was quiet|strong="H8252" ten|strong="H6235" years|strong="H8141".
And Asa|strong="H0609" did|strong="H6213" that which was good|strong="H2896" and right|strong="H3477" in the eyes|strong="H5869" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* his God|strong="H0430":
For he took away|strong="H5493" the altars|strong="H4196" of the strange|strong="H5236" gods, and the high places|strong="H1116", and brake down|strong="H7665" the images|strong="H4676", and cut down|strong="H1438" the groves|strong="H0842":
And commanded|strong="H0559" Judah|strong="H3063" to seek|strong="H1875" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of their fathers|strong="H0001", and to do|strong="H6213" the law|strong="H8451" and the commandment|strong="H4687".
Also he took away|strong="H5493" out of all the cities|strong="H5892" of Judah|strong="H3063" the high places|strong="H1116" and the images|strong="H2553": and the kingdom|strong="H4467" was quiet|strong="H8252" before|strong="H6440" him.
And he built|strong="H1129" fenced|strong="H4694" cities|strong="H5892" in Judah|strong="H3063": for the land|strong="H0776" had rest|strong="H8252", and he had no war|strong="H4421" in those years|strong="H8141"; because the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* had given him rest|strong="H5117".
Therefore he said|strong="H0559" unto Judah|strong="H3063", Let us build|strong="H1129" these cities|strong="H5892", and make about|strong="H5437" them walls|strong="H2346", and towers|strong="H4026", gates|strong="H1817", and bars|strong="H1280", while the land|strong="H0776" is yet before|strong="H6440" us; because we have sought|strong="H1875" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* our God|strong="H0430", we have sought|strong="H1875" him, and he hath given us rest|strong="H5117" on every side|strong="H5439". So they built|strong="H1129" and prospered|strong="H6743".
And Asa|strong="H0609" had an army|strong="H2428" of men that bare|strong="H5375" targets|strong="H6793" and spears|strong="H7420", out of Judah|strong="H3063" three|strong="H7969" hundred|strong="H3967" thousand|strong="H0505"; and out of Benjamin|strong="H1144", that bare|strong="H5375" shields|strong="H4043" and drew|strong="H1869" bows|strong="H7198", two hundred|strong="H3967" and fourscore|strong="H8084" thousand|strong="H0505": all these were mighty men|strong="H1368" of valour|strong="H2428".
And there came out|strong="H3318" against them Zerah|strong="H2226" the Ethiopian|strong="H3569" with an host|strong="H2428" of a thousand|strong="H0505" thousand|strong="H0505", and three|strong="H7969" hundred|strong="H3967" chariots|strong="H4818"; and came|strong="H0935" unto Mareshah|strong="H4762".
Then Asa|strong="H0609" went out|strong="H3318" against|strong="H6440" him, and they set the battle|strong="H4421" in array|strong="H6186" in the valley|strong="H1516" of Zephathah|strong="H6859" at Mareshah|strong="H4762".
And Asa|strong="H0609" cried|strong="H7121" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* his God|strong="H0430", and said|strong="H0559", \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, it is nothing with thee to help|strong="H5826", whether|strong="H0996" with many|strong="H7227", or with them that have no power|strong="H3581": help|strong="H5826" us, O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* our God|strong="H0430"; for we rest|strong="H8172" on thee, and in thy name|strong="H8034" we go|strong="H0935" against this multitude|strong="H1995". O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, thou art our God|strong="H0430"; let not man|strong="H0582" prevail|strong="H6113" against thee.
So the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* smote|strong="H5062" the Ethiopians|strong="H3569" before|strong="H6440" Asa|strong="H0609", and before|strong="H6440" Judah|strong="H3063"; and the Ethiopians|strong="H3569" fled|strong="H5127".
And Asa|strong="H0609" and the people|strong="H5971" that were with him pursued|strong="H7291" them unto Gerar|strong="H1642": and the Ethiopians|strong="H3569" were overthrown|strong="H5307", that they could not recover|strong="H4241" themselves; for they were destroyed|strong="H7665" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and before|strong="H6440" his host|strong="H4264"; and they carried away|strong="H5375" very|strong="H3966" much|strong="H7235" spoil|strong="H7998".
And they smote|strong="H5221" all the cities|strong="H5892" round about|strong="H5439" Gerar|strong="H1642"; for the fear|strong="H6343" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* came upon them: and they spoiled|strong="H0962" all the cities|strong="H5892"; for there was exceeding much|strong="H7227" spoil|strong="H0961" in them.
They smote|strong="H5221" also the tents|strong="H0168" of cattle|strong="H4735", and carried away|strong="H7617" sheep|strong="H6629" and camels|strong="H1581" in abundance|strong="H7230", and returned|strong="H7725" to Jerusalem|strong="H3389".
