Samuel 11

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

Then Nahash|strong="H5176" the Ammonite|strong="H5984" came up|strong="H5927", and encamped|strong="H2583" against Jabesh-gilead|strong="H3003": and all the men|strong="H0582" of Jabesh|strong="H3003" said|strong="H0559" unto Nahash|strong="H5176", Make|strong="H3772" a covenant|strong="H1285" with us, and we will serve|strong="H5647" thee.

And Nahash|strong="H5176" the Ammonite|strong="H5984" answered|strong="H0559" them, On this|strong="H2063" condition will I make|strong="H3772" a covenant with you, that I may thrust out|strong="H5365" all your right|strong="H3225" eyes|strong="H5869", and lay|strong="H7760" it for a reproach|strong="H2781" upon all Israel|strong="H3478".

And the elders|strong="H2205" of Jabesh|strong="H3003" said|strong="H0559" unto him, Give us seven|strong="H7651" days’|strong="H3117" respite|strong="H7503", that we may send|strong="H7971" messengers|strong="H4397" unto all the coasts|strong="H1366" of Israel|strong="H3478": and then, if there be no man to save|strong="H3467" us, we will come out|strong="H3318" to thee.

Then came|strong="H0935" the messengers|strong="H4397" to Gibeah|strong="H1390" of Saul|strong="H7586", and told|strong="H1696" the tidings|strong="H1697" in the ears|strong="H0241" of the people|strong="H5971": and all the people|strong="H5971" lifted up|strong="H5375" their voices|strong="H6963", and wept|strong="H1058".

And, behold, Saul|strong="H7586" came|strong="H0935" after|strong="H0310" the herd|strong="H1241" out of the field|strong="H7704"; and Saul|strong="H7586" said|strong="H0559", What aileth the people|strong="H5971" that they weep|strong="H1058"? And they told|strong="H5608" him the tidings|strong="H1697" of the men|strong="H0582" of Jabesh|strong="H3003".

And the Spirit|strong="H7307" of God|strong="H0430" came|strong="H6743" upon Saul|strong="H7586" when he heard|strong="H8085" those tidings|strong="H1697", and his anger|strong="H0639" was kindled|strong="H2734" greatly|strong="H3966".

And he took|strong="H3947" a yoke|strong="H6776" of oxen|strong="H1241", and hewed them in pieces|strong="H5408", and sent|strong="H7971" them throughout all the coasts|strong="H1366" of Israel|strong="H3478" by the hands|strong="H3027" of messengers|strong="H4397", saying|strong="H0559", Whosoever cometh not forth|strong="H3318" after|strong="H0310" Saul|strong="H7586" and after|strong="H0310" Samuel|strong="H8050", so shall it be done|strong="H6213" unto his oxen|strong="H1241". And the fear|strong="H6343" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* fell|strong="H5307" on the people|strong="H5971", and they came out|strong="H3318" with one|strong="H0259" consent|strong="H0376".

And when he numbered|strong="H6485" them in Bezek|strong="H0966", the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" were three|strong="H7969" hundred|strong="H3967" thousand|strong="H0505", and the men|strong="H0376" of Judah|strong="H3063" thirty|strong="H7970" thousand|strong="H0505".

And they said|strong="H0559" unto the messengers|strong="H4397" that came|strong="H0935", Thus shall ye say|strong="H0559" unto the men|strong="H0376" of Jabesh-gilead|strong="H3003", To morrow|strong="H4279", by that time the sun|strong="H8121" be hot|strong="H2527", ye shall have help|strong="H8668". And the messengers|strong="H4397" came|strong="H0935" and shewed|strong="H5046" it to the men|strong="H0582" of Jabesh|strong="H3003"; and they were glad|strong="H8055".

Therefore the men|strong="H0582" of Jabesh|strong="H3003" said|strong="H0559", To morrow|strong="H4279" we will come out|strong="H3318" unto you, and ye shall do|strong="H6213" with us all that seemeth|strong="H5869" good|strong="H2896" unto you.

And it was so on the morrow|strong="H4283", that Saul|strong="H7586" put|strong="H7760" the people|strong="H5971" in three|strong="H7969" companies|strong="H7218"; and they came|strong="H0935" into the midst|strong="H8432" of the host|strong="H4264" in the morning|strong="H1242" watch|strong="H0821", and slew|strong="H5221" the Ammonites|strong="H5983" until the heat|strong="H2527" of the day|strong="H3117": and it came to pass, that they which remained|strong="H7604" were scattered|strong="H6327", so that two|strong="H8147" of them were not left|strong="H7604" together|strong="H3162".

And the people|strong="H5971" said|strong="H0559" unto Samuel|strong="H8050", Who is he that said|strong="H0559", Shall Saul|strong="H7586" reign|strong="H4427" over us? bring|strong="H5414" the men|strong="H0582", that we may put them to death|strong="H4191".

And Saul|strong="H7586" said|strong="H0559", There shall not a man|strong="H0376" be put to death|strong="H4191" this day|strong="H3117": for to day|strong="H3117" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath wrought|strong="H6213" salvation|strong="H8668" in Israel|strong="H3478".

Then said|strong="H0559" Samuel|strong="H8050" to the people|strong="H5971", Come|strong="H3212", and let us go|strong="H3212" to Gilgal|strong="H1537", and renew|strong="H2318" the kingdom|strong="H4410" there.

And all the people|strong="H5971" went|strong="H3212" to Gilgal|strong="H1537"; and there they made Saul|strong="H7586" king|strong="H4427" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* in Gilgal|strong="H1537"; and there they sacrificed|strong="H2076" sacrifices|strong="H2077" of peace offerings|strong="H8002" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; and there Saul|strong="H7586" and all the men|strong="H0582" of Israel|strong="H3478" rejoiced|strong="H8055" greatly|strong="H3966".
