1 Behold|strong="G1492", what manner of|strong="G4217" love|strong="G0026" the Father|strong="G3962" hath bestowed|strong="G1325" upon us|strong="G2254", that|strong="G2443" we should be called|strong="G2564" the sons|strong="G5043" of God|strong="G2316": therefore|strong="G1223" the world|strong="G2889" knoweth|strong="G1097" us|strong="G2248" not|strong="G3756", because|strong="G3754" it knew|strong="G1097" him|strong="G0846" not|strong="G3756".
2 Beloved|strong="G0027", now|strong="G3568" are we|strong="G2070" the sons|strong="G5043" of God|strong="G2316", and|strong="G2532" it doth|strong="G5319" not yet|strong="G3768" appear|strong="G5319" what|strong="G5101" we shall be|strong="G2071": but|strong="G1161" we know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754", when|strong="G1437" he shall appear|strong="G5319", we shall be|strong="G2071" like|strong="G3664" him|strong="G0846"; for|strong="G3754" we shall see|strong="G3700" him|strong="G0846" as|strong="G2531" he is|strong="G2076".
3 And|strong="G2532" every man|strong="G3956" that hath|strong="G2192" this|strong="G3778" hope|strong="G1680" in|strong="G1909" him|strong="G0846" purifieth|strong="G0048" himself|strong="G1438", even as|strong="G2531" he|strong="G1565" is|strong="G2076" pure|strong="G0053".
4 Whosoever|strong="G3956" committeth|strong="G4160" sin|strong="G0266" transgresseth|strong="G4160" also|strong="G2532" the law|strong="G0458": for|strong="G2532" sin|strong="G0266" is|strong="G2076" the transgression of the law|strong="G0458".
5 And|strong="G2532" ye know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" he|strong="G1565" was manifested|strong="G5319" to|strong="G2443" take away|strong="G0142" our|strong="G2257" sins|strong="G0266"; and|strong="G2532" in|strong="G1722" him|strong="G0846" is|strong="G2076" no|strong="G3756" sin|strong="G0266".
6 Whosoever|strong="G3956" abideth|strong="G3306" in|strong="G1722" him|strong="G0846" sinneth|strong="G0264" not|strong="G3756": whosoever|strong="G3956" sinneth|strong="G0264" hath|strong="G3708" not|strong="G3756" seen|strong="G3708" him|strong="G0846", neither|strong="G3761" known|strong="G1097" him|strong="G0846".
7 Little children|strong="G5040", let|strong="G4105" no man|strong="G3367" deceive|strong="G4105" you|strong="G5209": he that doeth|strong="G4160" righteousness|strong="G1343" is|strong="G2076" righteous|strong="G1342", even as|strong="G2531" he|strong="G1565" is|strong="G2076" righteous|strong="G1342".
8 He that committeth|strong="G4160" sin|strong="G0266" is|strong="G2076" of|strong="G1537" the devil|strong="G1228"; for|strong="G3754" the devil|strong="G1228" sinneth|strong="G0264" from|strong="G0575" the beginning|strong="G0746". For|strong="G1519" this purpose|strong="G5124" the Son|strong="G5207" of God|strong="G2316" was manifested|strong="G5319", that|strong="G2443" he might destroy|strong="G3089" the works|strong="G2041" of the devil|strong="G1228".
9 Whosoever|strong="G3956" is born|strong="G1080" of|strong="G1537" God|strong="G2316" doth|strong="G4160" not|strong="G3756" commit|strong="G4160" sin|strong="G0266"; for|strong="G3754" his|strong="G0846" seed|strong="G4690" remaineth|strong="G3306" in|strong="G1722" him|strong="G0846": and|strong="G2532" he cannot|strong="G1410" sin|strong="G0264", because|strong="G3754" he is born|strong="G1080" of|strong="G1537" God|strong="G2316".
10 In|strong="G1722" this|strong="G5129" the children|strong="G5043" of God|strong="G2316" are|strong="G2076" manifest|strong="G5318", and|strong="G2532" the children|strong="G5043" of the devil|strong="G1228": whosoever|strong="G3956" doeth|strong="G4160" not|strong="G3361" righteousness|strong="G1343" is|strong="G2076" not|strong="G3756" of|strong="G1537" God|strong="G2316", neither|strong="G2532" he that loveth|strong="G0025" not|strong="G3361" his|strong="G0846" brother|strong="G0080".
11 For|strong="G3754" this|strong="G3778" is|strong="G2076" the message|strong="G0031" that|strong="G3739" ye heard|strong="G0191" from|strong="G0575" the beginning|strong="G0746", that|strong="G2443" we should love|strong="G0025" one another|strong="G0240".
12 Not|strong="G3756" as|strong="G2531" Cain|strong="G2535", who was|strong="G2258" of|strong="G1537" that wicked one|strong="G4190", and|strong="G2532" slew|strong="G4969" his|strong="G0846" brother|strong="G0080". And|strong="G2532" wherefore|strong="G5484" slew he|strong="G4969" him|strong="G0846"? Because|strong="G3754" his own|strong="G0846" works|strong="G2041" were|strong="G2258" evil|strong="G4190", and|strong="G1161" his|strong="G0846" brother’s|strong="G0080" righteous|strong="G1342".
13 Marvel|strong="G2296" not|strong="G3361", my|strong="G3450" brethren|strong="G0080", if|strong="G1487" the world|strong="G2889" hate|strong="G3404" you|strong="G5209".
14 We|strong="G2249" know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" we have passed|strong="G3327" from|strong="G1537" death|strong="G2288" unto|strong="G1519" life|strong="G2222", because|strong="G3754" we love|strong="G0025" the brethren|strong="G0080". He that loveth|strong="G0025" not|strong="G3361" his brother|strong="G0080" abideth|strong="G3306" in|strong="G1722" death|strong="G2288".
15 Whosoever|strong="G3956" hateth|strong="G3404" his|strong="G0846" brother|strong="G0080" is|strong="G2076" a murderer|strong="G0443": and|strong="G2532" ye know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" no|strong="G3756" murderer|strong="G0443" hath|strong="G2192" eternal|strong="G0166" life|strong="G2222" abiding|strong="G3306" in|strong="G1722" him|strong="G0846".
16 Hereby|strong="G1722" perceive we|strong="G1097" the love|strong="G0026" \+w of God|strong="G2316"\+w*, because|strong="G3754" he|strong="G1565" laid down|strong="G5087" his|strong="G0846" life|strong="G5590" for|strong="G5228" us|strong="G2257": and|strong="G2532" we|strong="G2249" ought|strong="G3784" to lay down|strong="G5087" our lives|strong="G5590" for|strong="G5228" the brethren|strong="G0080".
17 But|strong="G1161" whoso|strong="G3739" hath|strong="G2192" this world’s|strong="G2889" good|strong="G0979", and|strong="G2532" seeth|strong="G2334" his|strong="G0846" brother|strong="G0080" have|strong="G2192" need|strong="G5532", and|strong="G2532" shutteth up|strong="G2808" his|strong="G0846" bowels|strong="G4698" of compassion from|strong="G0575" him|strong="G0846", how|strong="G4459" dwelleth|strong="G3306" the love|strong="G0026" of God|strong="G2316" in|strong="G1722" him|strong="G0846"?
18 My|strong="G3450" little children|strong="G5040", let us|strong="G0025" not|strong="G3361" love|strong="G0025" in word|strong="G3056", neither|strong="G3366" in tongue|strong="G1100"; but|strong="G0235" in deed|strong="G2041" and|strong="G2532" in truth|strong="G0225".
19 And|strong="G2532" hereby|strong="G1722" we know|strong="G1097" that|strong="G3754" we are|strong="G2070" of|strong="G1537" the truth|strong="G0225", and|strong="G2532" shall assure|strong="G3982" our|strong="G2257" hearts|strong="G2588" before|strong="G1715" him|strong="G0846".
20 For|strong="G3754" if|strong="G1437" our|strong="G2257" heart|strong="G2588" condemn us|strong="G2607", God|strong="G2316" is|strong="G2076" greater than|strong="G3187" our|strong="G2257" heart|strong="G2588", and|strong="G2532" knoweth|strong="G1097" all things|strong="G3956".
21 Beloved|strong="G0027", if|strong="G1437" our|strong="G2257" heart|strong="G2588" condemn|strong="G2607" us|strong="G2257" not|strong="G3361", then have we|strong="G2192" confidence|strong="G3954" toward|strong="G4314" God|strong="G2316".
22 And|strong="G2532" whatsoever|strong="G3739" we ask|strong="G0154", we receive|strong="G2983" of|strong="G3844" him|strong="G0846", because|strong="G3754" we keep|strong="G5083" his|strong="G0846" commandments|strong="G1785", and|strong="G2532" do|strong="G4160" those things that are pleasing|strong="G0701" in|strong="G1799" his|strong="G0846" sight|strong="G1799".
23 And|strong="G2532" this|strong="G3778" is|strong="G2076" his|strong="G0846" commandment|strong="G1785", That|strong="G2443" we should believe|strong="G4100" on the name|strong="G3686" of his|strong="G0846" Son|strong="G5207" Jesus|strong="G2424" Christ|strong="G5547", and|strong="G2532" love|strong="G0025" one another|strong="G0240", as|strong="G2531" he gave|strong="G1325" us|strong="G2254" commandment|strong="G1785".
24 And|strong="G2532" he that keepeth|strong="G5083" his|strong="G0846" commandments|strong="G1785" dwelleth|strong="G3306" in|strong="G1722" him|strong="G0846", and|strong="G2532" he|strong="G0846" in|strong="G1722" him|strong="G0846". And|strong="G2532" hereby|strong="G1722" we know|strong="G1097" that|strong="G3754" he abideth|strong="G3306" in|strong="G1722" us|strong="G2254", by|strong="G1537" the Spirit|strong="G4151" which|strong="G3739" he hath given|strong="G1325" us|strong="G2254".
