1 My brothers, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality.
1 Meus irmãos, na vossa fé em nosso glorioso Senhor Jesus Cristo, guardai-vos de toda consideração de pessoas.
2 For if a man enters into your assembly with a gold ring, in fine clothes, and there should also come in a poor [man] in dirty clothes,
2 Suponde que entre na vossa reunião um homem com anel de ouro e ricos trajes, e entre também um pobre com trajes gastos;
3 and you have respect for him that wears the fine clothes and you say to him, "You sit here in a good seat,"and say to the poor man, "You stand there,"or, "Sit here under my footstool,"
3 se atenderdes ao que está magnificamente trajado, e lhe disserdes: Senta-te aqui, neste lugar de honra, e disserdes ao pobre: Fica ali de pé, ou: Senta-te aqui junto ao estrado dos meus pés,
4 and so did you not differentiate among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?
4 não é verdade que fazeis distinção entre vós, e que sois juízes de pensamentos iníquos?
5 Listen, my beloved brothers. Did God not choose the poor of the world [to be] rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those that love Him?
5 Ouvi, meus caríssimos irmãos: porventura não escolheu Deus os pobres deste mundo para que fossem ricos na fé e herdeiros do Reino prometido por Deus aos que o amam?
6 But you have dishonored the poor. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into court?
6 Mas vós desprezastes o pobre! Não são porventura os ricos os que vos oprimem e vos arrastam aos tribunais?
7 Do they not blaspheme the noble name by which you are called?
7 Não blasfemam eles o belo nome que trazeis?
8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself,"you do well;
8 Se cumprirdes a lei régia da Escritura: Amarás o teu próximo como a ti mesmo {Lv 19,18}, sem dúvida fazeis bem.
9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.
9 Mas se vos deixais levar por distinção de pessoas, cometeis uma falta e sereis condenados pela lei como transgressores.
10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one [point], he has become guilty of all.
10 Pois quem guardar os preceitos da lei, mas faltar em um só ponto, tornar-se-á culpado de toda ela.
11 For He who said, "Do not commit adultery,"also said, "You shall not murder."Now if you do not commit adultery, but [yet ]you murder, [then ]you have become a transgressor of the law.
11 Porque aquele que disse: Não cometerás adultério, disse também: Não matarás {Ex 20,13s}. Se, pois, matares, embora não tenhas cometido adultério, tornas-te transgressor da lei.
12 So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty.
12 Falai, pois, de tal modo e de tal modo procedei, como se estivésseis para ser julgados pela lei da liberdade.
13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who does not show mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
13 Haverá juízo sem misericórdia para aquele que não usou de misericórdia. A misericórdia triunfa sobre o julgamento.
14 What does it profit, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Is that [kind of] faith able to save him?
14 De que aproveitará, irmãos, a alguém dizer que tem fé, se não tiver obras? Acaso esta fé poderá salvá-lo?
15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,
15 Se a um irmão ou a uma irmã faltarem roupas e o alimento cotidiano,
16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled,"but you do not give them the necessary things of the body, what [is] the benefit?
16 e algum de vós lhes disser: Ide em paz, aquecei-vos e fartai-vos, mas não lhes der o necessário para o corpo, de que lhes aproveitará?
17 Thus also that faith, if it does not have works, is dead, [being] by itself.
17 Assim também a fé: se não tiver obras, é morta em si mesma.
18 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works."Show me your faith [apart] from your works, and I will show you my faith by means of my works.
18 Mas alguém dirá: Tu tens fé, e eu tenho obras. Mostra-me a tua fé sem obras e eu te mostrarei a minha fé pelas minhas obras.
19 You believe God is one. You do well. Even the demons believe-and they shudder!
19 Crês que há um só Deus. Fazes bem. Também os demônios crêem e tremem.
20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
20 Queres ver, ó homem vão, como a fé sem obras é estéril?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?
21 Abraão, nosso pai, não foi justificado pelas obras, oferecendo o seu filho Isaac sobre o altar?
22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by means of his works faith was made perfect?
22 Vês como a fé cooperava com as suas obras e era completada por elas.
23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness."And he was called a friend of God.
23 Assim se cumpriu a Escritura, que diz: Abraão creu em Deus e isto lhe foi tido em conta de justiça, e foi chamado amigo de Deus {Gn 15,6}.
24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
24 Vedes como o homem é justificado pelas obras e não somente pela fé?
25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by means of works, when she received the messengers and sent [them] out another way?
25 Do mesmo modo Raab, a meretriz, não foi ela justificada pelas obras, por ter recebido os mensageiros e os ter feito sair por outro caminho?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
26 Assim como o corpo sem a alma é morto, assim também a fé sem obras é morta.
