1 My son, if thou hast become surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand for a stranger,
1 Meu filho, se fores fiador do teu amigo, se feriste tua mão com um estranho,
2 thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
2 tu és laçado pelas palavras da tua boca, tu és tomado pelas palavras da tua boca.
3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, since thou hast come into the hand of thy friend: go, humble thyself, and be urgent with thy friend.
3 Faze isto agora, meu filho, e livra-te, quando estiveres na mão do teu amigo; vai, humilha-te, e certifica teu amigo.
4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids:
4 Não dês sono aos teus olhos, nem sonolência às tuas pálpebras.
5 deliver thyself as a gazelle from the hand {of the hunter}, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
5 Livra-te como uma gazela da mão do caçador, e como um pássaro da mão do passarinheiro.
6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways and be wise:
6 Vai ter com a formiga, ó preguiçoso; considera seus caminhos, e sê sábio;
7 which having no chief, overseer, or ruler,
7 que não tendo guia, feitor, nem governador,
8 provideth her bread in the summer, {and} gathereth her food in the harvest.
8 provê seu alimento no verão, e junta sua comida na colheita.
9 How long, sluggard, wilt thou lie down? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
9 Ó preguiçoso, por quanto tempo dormirás? Quando te levantarás do teu sono?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest!
10 Ainda um pouco mais de sono, uma soneca, um pouco a repousar de braços cruzados;
11 So shall thy poverty come as a roving plunderer, and thy penury as an armed man.
11 assim virá a tua pobreza como quem viaja, e a tua necessidade como um homem armado.
12 A man of Belial, a wicked person, is he that goeth about with a perverse mouth;
12 Uma pessoa má, um homem malévolo, anda com a boca perversa,
13 he winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
13 ele pisca com seus olhos, fala com os pés e ensina com os dedos;
14 deceits are in his heart; he deviseth mischief at all times, he soweth discords.
14 a perversidade está no seu coração, ele maquina coisas ruins continuamente; ele semeia discórdia.
15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly: in a moment shall he be broken, and without remedy.
15 Portanto sua calamidade virá repentinamente; subitamente será quebrado, sem reparação.
16 These six {things} doth Jehovah hate, yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
16 Estas seis coisas o SENHOR odeia; sim, sete são abominações para ele:
17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood;
17 o olhar orgulhoso, a língua mentirosa, mãos que derramam sangue inocente,
18 a heart that deviseth wicked imaginations; feet that are swift in running to mischief;
18 o coração que maquina ideias perversas, pés que se apressam a correr para o mal,
19 a false witness that uttereth lies, and he that soweth discords among brethren.
19 a testemunha falsa que fala mentiras, e aquele que semeia discórdia entre irmãos.
20 My son, observe thy father's commandment, and forsake not the teaching of thy mother;
20 Meu filho, guarda o mandamento de teu pai, e não abandones a lei da tua mãe;
21 bind them continually upon thy heart, tie them about thy neck:
21 ata-os continuamente sobre teu coração, e amarra-os ao teu pescoço.
22 when thou walkest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and {when} thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
22 Quando saíres, ele te guiará; quando dormires, te guardará; e quando acordares, falará contigo.
23 For the commandment is a lamp, and the teaching a light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
23 Porque o mandamento é uma lâmpada, e a lei é luz; e as repreensões da instrução são o caminho da vida,
24 to keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
24 para te guardarem da mulher má, das lisonjas da língua da mulher estrangeira.
25 Lust not after her beauty in thy heart, neither let her take thee with her eyelids;
25 Não cobices no teu coração a sua beleza; nem te deixes levar pelas suas pálpebras.
26 for by means of a whorish woman {a man is brought} to a loaf of bread, and another's wife doth hunt for the precious soul.
26 Porque, por meio de uma mulher indecente, um homem é levado a pedir um pedaço de pão, e a adúltera caçará pela vida preciosa.
27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his garments not be burned?
27 Pode um homem tomar fogo em seu peito, e suas roupas não se queimarem?
28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?
28 Pode alguém andar sobre as brasas e os seus pés não se queimarem?
29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife: whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
29 Assim, aquele que entra à mulher do seu vizinho; quem quer que a toque não será inocente.
30 They do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry:
30 Os homens não desprezam um ladrão, se ele rouba para satisfazer a sua alma quando está com fome;
31 and if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.
31 mas se for achado, restaurará o tanto sete vezes; dará todos os bens da sua casa.
32 Whoso committeth adultery with a woman is void of understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
32 Mas, o que comete adultério com uma mulher, tem falta de entendimento; aquele que faz isso destrói a própria alma.
33 A wound and contempt shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
33 Uma ferida e desonra ele terá; e sua repreensão não será apagada.
34 For jealousy is the rage of a man, and he will not spare in the day of vengeance;
34 Porque o ciúme é a fúria de um homem; portanto ele não poupará ninguém no dia da vingança.
35 he will not regard any ransom, neither will he rest content though thou multipliest {thy} gifts.
35 Ele não considerará nenhum resgate, nem descansará satisfeito, mesmo que lhe dês muitos presentes.
