1 My son, if thou hast become surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand for a stranger,
1 Filho meu, se ficaste por fiador do teu companheiro, se deste a tua mão ao estranho,
2 thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
2 E te deixaste enredar pelas próprias palavras; e te prendeste nas palavras da tua boca;
3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, since thou hast come into the hand of thy friend: go, humble thyself, and be urgent with thy friend.
3 Faze pois isto agora, filho meu, e livra-te, já que caíste nas mãos do teu companheiro: vai, humilha-te, e importuna o teu companheiro.
4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids:
4 Não dês sono aos teus olhos, nem deixes adormecer as tuas pálpebras.
5 deliver thyself as a gazelle from the hand {of the hunter}, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
5 Livra-te, como a gazela da mão do caçador, e como a ave da mão do passarinheiro.
6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways and be wise:
6 Vai ter com a formiga, ó preguiçoso; olha para os seus caminhos, e sê sábio.
7 which having no chief, overseer, or ruler,
7 Pois ela, não tendo chefe, nem guarda, nem dominador,
8 provideth her bread in the summer, {and} gathereth her food in the harvest.
8 Prepara no verão o seu pão; na sega ajunta o seu mantimento.
9 How long, sluggard, wilt thou lie down? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
9 Ó preguiçoso, até quando ficarás deitado? Quando te levantarás do teu sono?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest!
10 Um pouco a dormir, um pouco a tosquenejar; um pouco a repousar de braços cruzados;
11 So shall thy poverty come as a roving plunderer, and thy penury as an armed man.
11 Assim sobrevirá a tua pobreza como o meliante, e a tua necessidade como um homem armado.
12 A man of Belial, a wicked person, is he that goeth about with a perverse mouth;
12 O homem mau, o homem iníquo tem a boca pervertida.
13 he winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
13 Acena com os olhos, fala com os pés e faz sinais com os dedos.
14 deceits are in his heart; he deviseth mischief at all times, he soweth discords.
14 Há no seu coração perversidade, todo o tempo maquina mal; anda semeando contendas.
15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly: in a moment shall he be broken, and without remedy.
15 Por isso a sua destruição virá repentinamente; subitamente será quebrantado, sem que haja cura.
16 These six {things} doth Jehovah hate, yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
16 Estas seis coisas o Senhor odeia, e a sétima a sua alma abomina:
17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood;
17 Olhos altivos, língua mentirosa, mãos que derramam sangue inocente,
18 a heart that deviseth wicked imaginations; feet that are swift in running to mischief;
18 O coração que maquina pensamentos perversos, pés que se apressam a correr para o mal,
19 a false witness that uttereth lies, and he that soweth discords among brethren.
19 A testemunha falsa que profere mentiras, e o que semeia contendas entre irmãos.
20 My son, observe thy father's commandment, and forsake not the teaching of thy mother;
20 Filho meu, guarda o mandamento de teu pai, e não deixes a lei da tua mãe;
21 bind them continually upon thy heart, tie them about thy neck:
21 Ata-os perpetuamente ao teu coração, e pendura-os ao teu pescoço.
22 when thou walkest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and {when} thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
22 Quando caminhares, te guiará; quando te deitares, te guardará; quando acordares, falará contigo.
23 For the commandment is a lamp, and the teaching a light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
23 Porque o mandamento é lâmpada, e a lei é luz; e as repreensões da correção são o caminho da vida,
24 to keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
24 Para te guardarem da mulher vil, e das lisonjas da estranha.
25 Lust not after her beauty in thy heart, neither let her take thee with her eyelids;
25 Não cobices no teu coração a sua formosura, nem te prendas aos seus olhos.
26 for by means of a whorish woman {a man is brought} to a loaf of bread, and another's wife doth hunt for the precious soul.
26 Porque por causa duma prostituta se chega a pedir um bocado de pão; e a adúltera anda à caça da alma preciosa.
27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his garments not be burned?
27 Porventura tomará alguém fogo no seu seio, sem que suas vestes se queimem?
28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?
28 Ou andará alguém sobre brasas, sem que se queimem os seus pés?
29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife: whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
29 Assim ficará o que entrar à mulher do seu próximo; não será inocente todo aquele que a tocar.
30 They do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry:
30 Não se injuria o ladrão, quando furta para saciar-se, tendo fome;
31 and if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.
31 E se for achado pagará o tanto sete vezes; terá de dar todos os bens da sua casa.
32 Whoso committeth adultery with a woman is void of understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
32 Assim, o que adultera com uma mulher é falto de entendimento; aquele que faz isso destrói a sua alma.
33 A wound and contempt shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
33 Achará castigo e vilipêndio, e o seu opróbrio nunca se apagará.
34 For jealousy is the rage of a man, and he will not spare in the day of vengeance;
34 Porque os ciúmes enfurecerão o marido; de maneira nenhuma perdoará no dia da vingança.
35 he will not regard any ransom, neither will he rest content though thou multipliest {thy} gifts.
35 Não aceitará nenhum resgate, nem se conformará por mais que aumentes os presentes.
