1 He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and without remedy.
1 O homem que, apesar das admoestações, se obstina será logo irremediavelmente arruinado.
2 When the righteous increase, the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
2 Quando dominam os justos, alegra-se o povo; quando governa o ímpio, o povo geme.
3 Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father; but he that is a companion of harlots destroyeth {his} substance.
3 Quem ama a sabedoria alegra seu pai; o que freqüenta as prostitutas dissipa sua fortuna.
4 A king by just judgment establisheth the land; but he that taketh gifts overthroweth it.
4 É pela justiça que um rei firma seu país, mas aquele que o sobrecarrega com muitos impostos, o arruína.
5 A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his steps.
5 O homem que adula seu próximo estende redes aos seus pés.
6 In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare; but the righteous shall sing and rejoice.
6 No delito do ímpio há um ardil, mas o justo corre alegremente.
7 The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor; the wicked understandeth not knowledge.
7 O justo conhece a causa dos pobres; o ímpio a ignora.
8 Scornful men set the city in a flame; but the wise turn away anger.
8 Os escarnecedores ateiam fogo na cidade, mas os sábios acalmam o furor.
9 If a wise man contendeth with a fool, whether he rage or laugh, {he} hath no rest.
9 Discute um sábio com um tolo? Que ele se zangue ou que ele se ria, não terá paz.
10 The bloodthirsty hate the perfect, but the upright care for his soul.
10 Os homens sanguinários odeiam o íntegro, mas os homens retos tomam cuidado com sua vida.
11 A fool uttereth all his mind; but a wise {man} keepeth it back.
11 O insensato desafoga toda sua ira, mas o sábio a domina e a recalca.
12 If a ruler hearken to lying words, all his servants are wicked.
12 Quando um soberano presta atenção às mentiras, todos os seus servidores tornam-se maus.
13 The indigent and the oppressor meet together; Jehovah lighteneth the eyes of them both.
13 O pobre e o opressor se encontram: é o Senhor que ilumina os olhos de cada um.
14 A king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
14 Um rei que julga com eqüidade os humildes terá seu trono firmado para sempre.
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom; but a child left {to himself} bringeth his mother to shame.
15 Vara e correção dão a sabedoria; menino abandonado à sua vontade se torna a vergonha da mãe.
16 When the wicked increase, transgression increaseth; but the righteous shall see their fall.
16 Quando se multiplicam os ímpios, multiplica-se o crime, mas os justos contemplarão sua queda.
17 Chasten thy son, and he shall give thee rest, and shall give delight unto thy soul.
17 Corrige teu filho e ele te dará repouso e será as delícias de tua vida.
18 Where there is no vision the people cast off restraint; but happy is he that keepeth the law.
18 Por falta de visão, o povo vive sem freios; ditoso o que observa a instrução!
19 A servant is not corrected by words: he understandeth indeed, but he will not answer.
19 Não é com palavras que se corrige um escravo, porque ele compreende, mas não se atém a elas.
20 Hast thou seen a man hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
20 Viste um homem precipitado no falar: há mais esperança num tolo do que nele.
21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child, shall in the end have him as a son.
21 Um escravo mimado desde sua juventude, acaba por se tornar desobediente.
22 An angry man exciteth contention; and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
22 Um homem irascível excita contendas; o colérico acumula as faltas.
23 A man's pride bringeth him low; but the humble in spirit shall obtain honour.
23 O orgulho de um homem leva-o à humilhação, mas o humilde de espírito obtém a glória.
24 Whoso shareth with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth the adjuration, and declareth not.
24 Quem partilha com o ladrão, odeia-se a si mesmo; ouve a maldição e nada denuncia.
25 The fear of man bringeth a snare; but whoso putteth his confidence in Jehovah is protected.
25 O temor dos homens prepara um laço, mas quem confia no Senhor permanece seguro.
26 Many seek the ruler's face; but a man's right judgment is from Jehovah.
26 Muitos buscam o favor dum príncipe, mas é do Senhor que cada homem alcança justiça
27 An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous; and he that is of upright way is an abomination to the wicked {man}.
27 O homem iníquo é abominado pelos justos; o ímpio abomina aquele que anda pelo caminho certo.
