1 He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and without remedy.
1 Quem é repreendido muitas vezes e teima em não se corrigir cairá de repente na desgraça e não poderá escapar.
2 When the righteous increase, the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
2 Quando os honestos governam, o povo se alegra; mas, quando os maus dominam, o povo reclama.
3 Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father; but he that is a companion of harlots destroyeth {his} substance.
3 O filho que ama a sabedoria é o orgulho do seu pai. Quem anda com prostitutas desperdiça tudo o que tem.
4 A king by just judgment establisheth the land; but he that taketh gifts overthroweth it.
4 Quando o governo é justo, o país tem segurança; mas, quando o governo cobra impostos demais, a nação acaba na desgraça.
5 A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his steps.
5 Quem bajula os seus amigos está armando uma armadilha para si mesmo.
6 In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare; but the righteous shall sing and rejoice.
6 Os maus são apanhados na armadilha dos seus próprios pecados, mas os honestos andam livres e felizes.
7 The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor; the wicked understandeth not knowledge.
7 A pessoa correta se interessa pelos direitos dos pobres, porém os maus não se importam com essas coisas.
8 Scornful men set the city in a flame; but the wise turn away anger.
8 Os que zombam de tudo põem uma cidade inteira em confusão, mas os sábios mantêm tudo em paz.
9 If a wise man contendeth with a fool, whether he rage or laugh, {he} hath no rest.
9 Quando um homem inteligente discute com um tolo, este somente ri, xinga e causa confusão.
10 The bloodthirsty hate the perfect, but the upright care for his soul.
10 Os assassinos odeiam as pessoas direitas, mas os bons protegem a vida delas.
11 A fool uttereth all his mind; but a wise {man} keepeth it back.
11 O tolo mostra toda a sua raiva, mas quem é sensato se cala e a domina.
12 If a ruler hearken to lying words, all his servants are wicked.
12 Quando um governador dá atenção a mentiras, todos os seus auxiliares acabam se tornando maus.
13 The indigent and the oppressor meet together; Jehovah lighteneth the eyes of them both.
13 O pobre e aquele que o explora só têm uma coisa em comum: o Senhor Deus lhes deu olhos para verem.
14 A king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
14 As autoridades que defendem o direito dos pobres governam por muito tempo.
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom; but a child left {to himself} bringeth his mother to shame.
15 É bom corrigir e disciplinar a criança. Quando todas as suas vontades são feitas, ela acaba fazendo a sua mãe passar vergonha.
16 When the wicked increase, transgression increaseth; but the righteous shall see their fall.
16 Quando os maus estão no poder, o crime aumenta; mas as pessoas honestas viverão o suficiente para ver a queda dos maus.
17 Chasten thy son, and he shall give thee rest, and shall give delight unto thy soul.
17 Corrija os seus filhos, e eles serão para você motivo de orgulho e não de vergonha.
18 Where there is no vision the people cast off restraint; but happy is he that keepeth the law.
18 Um país sem a orientação de Deus é um país sem ordem. Quem guarda a lei de Deus é feliz.
19 A servant is not corrected by words: he understandeth indeed, but he will not answer.
19 Não adianta nada corrigir um escravo somente com palavras porque, mesmo que ele entenda, não obedecerá.
20 Hast thou seen a man hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
20 Há mais esperança para um tolo do que para uma pessoa que fala sem pensar.
21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child, shall in the end have him as a son.
21 O escravo que é mimado desde criança um dia vai querer ser dono de tudo.
22 An angry man exciteth contention; and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
22 A pessoa de mau gênio sempre causa problemas e discórdias.
23 A man's pride bringeth him low; but the humble in spirit shall obtain honour.
23 O orgulhoso acaba sendo humilhado, mas quem é humilde será respeitado.
24 Whoso shareth with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth the adjuration, and declareth not.
24 O companheiro de um ladrão é o pior inimigo de si mesmo. Se ele disser a verdade no tribunal, será castigado; se não disser, Deus o amaldiçoará.
25 The fear of man bringeth a snare; but whoso putteth his confidence in Jehovah is protected.
25 É perigoso ter medo dos outros, mas confiar no Senhor dá segurança.
26 Many seek the ruler's face; but a man's right judgment is from Jehovah.
26 Todos querem agradar às pessoas importantes, mas o Senhor dá o que cada um merece.
27 An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous; and he that is of upright way is an abomination to the wicked {man}.
27 Os homens direitos não toleram os maus, e os perversos não toleram os que vivem honestamente.
