1 Be not thou envious of evil men, neither desire to be with them;
1 Não tenha inveja dos maus, nem procure ter amizade com eles.
2 for their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
2 Eles só pensam em violências e, quando falam, é para ferir alguém. — 20 —
3 Through wisdom is a house built, and by understanding it is established;
3 Com a sabedoria se constrói o lar e sobre a prudência ele se firma.
4 and by knowledge are the chambers filled with all precious and pleasant substance.
4 Na casa da pessoa sábia os quartos ficam cheios de coisas bonitas e de valor. — 21 —
5 A wise man is strong, and a man of knowledge increaseth strength.
5 Ser sábio é melhor do que ser forte; o conhecimento é mais importante do que a força.
6 For with good advice shalt thou make thy war; and in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
6 Afinal, antes de entrar numa batalha, é preciso planejar bem, e, quando há muitos conselheiros, é mais fácil vencer. — 22 —
7 Wisdom is too high for a fool: he will not open his mouth in the gate.
7 Os provérbios dos sábios são profundos demais para serem entendidos pelos tolos; quando são discutidos assuntos importantes, os tolos não têm nada para dizer. — 23 —
8 He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a master of intrigues.
8 Quem planeja o mal será chamado de “criador de problemas”.
9 The purpose of folly is sin, and the scorner is an abomination to men.
9 Os planos dos que não têm juízo são pecados. Todos odeiam quem vive zombando dos outros. — 24 —
10 {If} thou losest courage in the day of trouble, thy strength is small.
10 Quem é fraco numa crise é realmente fraco. — 25 —
11 Deliver them that are taken forth unto death, and withdraw not from them that stagger to slaughter.
11 Procure salvar quem está sendo arrastado para a morte.
12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not, will not he that weigheth the hearts consider it? And he that preserveth thy soul, he knoweth it; and he rendereth to man according to his work.
12 Você pode dizer que o problema não é seu, mas Deus conhece o seu coração e sabe os seus motivos. Ele pagará de acordo com o que cada um fizer. — 26 —
13 Eat honey, my son, for it is good; and a honeycomb is sweet to thy taste:
13 Meu filho, coma mel, pois o mel faz bem. Assim como o favo de mel é doce na sua língua,
14 so consider wisdom for thy soul; if thou hast found it, there shall be a result, and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
14 assim também a sabedoria é boa para a sua alma. Se você a conseguir, terá um bom futuro e não perderá a esperança. — 27 —
15 Lay not wait, O wicked {man}, against the dwelling of the righteous; lay not waste his resting-place.
15 Você, homem perverso, não fique espiando a casa do homem honesto para assaltá-la.
16 For the righteous falleth seven times, and riseth up again; but the wicked stumble into disaster.
16 A pessoa honesta pode cair muitas vezes, que sempre se levanta de novo. Mas a desgraça acaba com os maus. — 28 —
17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thy heart be glad when he stumbleth;
17 Não fique contente quando o seu inimigo cair na desgraça.
18 lest Jehovah see it, and it be evil in his sight, and he turn away his anger from him.
18 O Senhor Deus vai saber que você ficou contente com isso e não vai gostar. E ele poderá parar de castigar esse inimigo. — 29 —
19 Fret not thyself because of evil-doers, {and} be not envious of the wicked:
19 Não se revolte por causa dos maus, nem tenha inveja deles.
20 for there shall be no future to the evil {man}; the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
20 Os pecadores não têm futuro; eles são como uma luz que está se apagando. — 30 —
21 My son, fear Jehovah and the king: meddle not with them that are given to change.
21 Meu filho, tema a Deus , o Senhor , e respeite as autoridades. Não se envolva com as pessoas que se revoltam contra eles,
22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
22 pois num instante elas podem se arruinar. Você pode fazer uma ideia da destruição que Deus ou as autoridades podem causar?
23 These things also come from the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
23 Estas coisas também foram ditas por homens sábios: O juiz não deve favorecer ninguém.
24 He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous, peoples shall curse him, nations shall abhor him;
24 Se ele declarar inocente um homem que é culpado, será amaldiçoado e odiado por todos.
25 but to them that rebuke {him} shall be delight, and a good blessing cometh upon them.
25 Porém os juízes que castigam o culpado receberão bênçãos e gozarão de boa fama.
26 He kisseth the lips who giveth a right answer.
26 A resposta sincera é sinal de uma amizade verdadeira.
27 Prepare thy work without, and put thy field in order, and afterwards build thy house.
27 Não construa a sua casa, nem forme o seu lar até que as suas plantações estejam prontas e você esteja certo de que pode ganhar a vida.
28 Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and wouldest thou deceive with thy lips?
28 Se você não tiver motivo, não seja testemunha contra o seu vizinho, nem fale mal dele.
29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me, I will render to the man according to his work.
29 Nunca diga: “Vou lhe pagar com a mesma moeda. Vou acertar as contas com ele!”
30 I went by the field of a sluggard, and by the vineyard of a man void of understanding;
30 Eu andei pelos campos e plantações de uva de um homem tolo e preguiçoso.
31 and lo, it was all grown over with thistles, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and its stone wall was broken down.
31 Tudo estava cheio de espinhos e coberto de mato, e o muro de pedras havia caído.
32 Then I looked, I took it to heart; I saw, I received instruction:
32 Olhei para aquilo, pensei bem e aprendi a seguinte lição:
33 -A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest!
33 Durma um pouco mais, cruze os braços e descanse mais um pouco;
34 So shall thy poverty come {as} a roving plunderer, and thy penury as an armed man.
34 mas, enquanto você estiver dormindo, a pobreza o atacará como um ladrão armado.
