1 They came to Bethphage and Bethany, near Jerusalem by the hill called Olives. Then he sent two of his disciples ahead.
1 Quando já se aproximavam de Jerusalém, Jesus e seus discípulos chegaram às cidades de Betfagé e Betânia, no monte das Oliveiras. Jesus enviou na frente dois discípulos.
2 He said, Go into the village in front of you. As soon as you go in, you will find an animal tied. No one has ever sat on it. Untie it and bring it to me.
2 “Vão àquele povoado adiante”, disse ele. “Assim que entrarem, verão amarrado ali um jumentinho, no qual ninguém jamais montou. Desamarrem-no e tragam-no para cá.
3 If anyone asks you, "Why are you doing this?" tell him, "The Lord needs it. He will send it back soon."
3 Se alguém lhes perguntar: ‘O que estão fazendo?’, digam apenas: ‘O Senhor precisa dele e o devolverá em breve’.”
4 The disciples went. They found the animal tied outside a door in the street. They untied it.
4 Os dois discípulos foram e encontraram o jumentinho na rua, amarrado junto a uma porta.
5 People standing there said, What are you doing, untying the animal?
5 Enquanto o desamarravam, algumas pessoas que estavam ali perguntaram: “O que vocês estão fazendo, desamarrando esse jumentinho?”.
6 The disciples said what Jesus had told them to say. So they let them go.
6 Responderam conforme Jesus havia instruído, e os deixaram levar o animal.
7 They brought it to Jesus and laid their coats on it. He got on it.
7 Os discípulos trouxeram o jumentinho, puseram seus mantos sobre o animal, e Jesus montou nele.
8 Many people spread their coats on the road. Others cut leaves and branches from the fields and put them on the road.
8 Muitos da multidão espalharam seus mantos ao longo do caminho diante de Jesus, e outros espalharam ramos que haviam cortado nos campos.
9 People in front of him and people behind him shouted, Praise God! God bless him who comes in the name of the Lord!
9 E as pessoas, tanto as que iam à frente como as que o seguiam, gritavam: “Hosana! Bendito é o que vem em nome do Senhor!
10 God bless the kingdom of our father David which is coming. Praise him in heaven!
10 Bendito é o reino que vem, o reino de nosso antepassado Davi! Hosana no mais alto céu!”.
11 And so Jesus went into Jerusalem and into the temple. He looked at everything. Then he went out with the twelve disciples to Bethany. It was late already.
11 Jesus entrou em Jerusalém e foi ao templo. Depois de olhar tudo ao redor atentamente, voltou a Betânia com os Doze, porque já era tarde.
12 In the morning when they were on the way out of Bethany, Jesus was hungry.
12 Na manhã seguinte, quando saíam de Betânia, Jesus teve fome.
13 He saw a fig tree a little way off with leaves on it. So he went to see if it had figs. He came to the tree. There was no fruit on it, only leaves. It was not the time for figs.
13 Viu que, a certa distância, havia uma figueira cheia de folhas e foi ver se encontraria figos. No entanto, só havia folhas, pois ainda não era tempo de dar frutos.
14 Jesus said to the tree, No one will ever eat a fig from you again! His disciples heard what he said.
14 Então Jesus disse à árvore: “Nunca mais comam de seu fruto!”. E os discípulos ouviram o que ele disse.
15 They reached Jerusalem. Jesus went into the temple. He began to drive out the people who were buying and selling in the temple. He threw down the tables of the money changers. He pushed down the seats of those who sold doves.
15 Quando voltaram a Jerusalém, Jesus entrou no templo e começou a expulsar os que compravam e vendiam animais para os sacrifícios. Derrubou as mesas dos cambistas e as cadeiras dos que vendiam pombas,
16 He would not let anyone carry anything through the temple.
16 impediu todos de usarem o templo como mercado
17 He taught the people, saying, The holy writings say, "My house shall be called a house for all tribes and nations, where people talk with God." But you have made it a place for people who steal!
17 e os ensinava, dizendo: “As Escrituras declaram: ‘Meu templo será chamado casa de oração para todas as nações’, mas vocês o transformaram num esconderijo de ladrões!”.
18 The chief priests and scribes heard what he said. They wanted to find some way to kill him. They feared Jesus because all the people were surprised at his teaching.
18 Quando os principais sacerdotes e mestres da lei souberam o que Jesus tinha feito, começaram a tramar um modo de matá-lo. Contudo, tinham medo dele, pois o povo estava muito admirado com seu ensino.
19 In the evening Jesus and his disciples went out of the city.
19 Ao entardecer, Jesus e seus discípulos saíram da cidade.
20 The next morning they passed the fig tree again. They saw that it had died from the roots.
20 Na manhã seguinte, quando os discípulos passaram pela figueira que Jesus tinha amaldiçoado, notaram que ela estava seca desde a raiz.
21 Peter remembered about it. He said, Look Master, you cursed the fig tree and it has died.
21 Pedro se lembrou do que Jesus tinha dito à árvore e exclamou: “Veja, Rabi! A figueira que o senhor amaldiçoou secou!”.
22 Jesus said, Believe in God.
22 Então Jesus disse aos discípulos: “Tenham fé em Deus.
23 I tell you the truth. Anyone may say to this hill, "Go and jump into the sea." He must not doubt in his heart, but he must believe that he will have the things he asks for and he will have them.
23 Eu lhes digo a verdade: vocês poderão dizer a este monte: ‘Levante-se e atire-se no mar’, e isso acontecerá. É preciso, no entanto, crer que acontecerá, e não ter nenhuma dúvida em seu coração.
24 So I tell you, when you ask God for anything believe that you will get it and you will have it.
24 Digo-lhes que, se crerem que já receberam, qualquer coisa que pedirem em oração lhes será concedido.
25 When you stand and talk with God, forgive others for the wrong things they have done to you. Then your Father in heaven will also forgive you for the wrong things you have done.
25 Quando estiverem orando, se tiverem alguma coisa contra alguém, perdoem-no, para que seu Pai no céu também perdoe seus pecados.
26 But if you do not forgive others, your Father in heaven will not forgive you for the wrong things you have done.
26 Mas, se vocês se recusarem a perdoar, seu Pai no céu não perdoará seus pecados”.
27 They came to Jerusalem again. Jesus walked in the temple. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders came to him.
27 Mais uma vez, voltaram a Jerusalém. Enquanto Jesus passava pelo templo, os principais sacerdotes, os mestres da lei e os líderes do povo vieram até ele
28 They said, What right have you to do these things? Who gave you the right to do them?
28 e perguntaram: “Com que autoridade você faz essas coisas? Quem lhe deu esse direito?”.
29 Jesus said, I will ask you a question. If you answer me, I will answer you and tell you what right I have to do these things.
29 Jesus respondeu: “Eu lhes direi com que autoridade faço essas coisas se vocês responderem a uma pergunta:
30 Who gave John the right to baptise people? Did God or did men? Answer me!
30 A autoridade de João para batizar vinha do céu ou era apenas humana? Respondam-me!”.
31 So they talked it over together. They said, If we say, "God gave John the right," he will say, "Then why did you not believe him?"
31 Eles discutiram a questão entre si: “Se dissermos que vinha do céu, ele perguntará por que não cremos em João.
32 But what if we say, "Men gave him the right to do it"? They feared the people because they all believed that John was a prophet of God.
32 Mas será que ousamos dizer que era apenas humana?”. Tinham medo do que o povo faria, pois todos acreditavam que João era profeta.
33 So they answered Jesus, We do not know. Then Jesus said, Neither will I tell you what right I have to do these things.
33 Por fim, responderam: “Não sabemos”. E Jesus replicou: “Então eu também não direi com que autoridade faço essas coisas”.
