1 But I say that as long as the son is a child, he is in no way different from a servant, though he is lord of all;
1 Portanto, pensem da seguinte forma: enquanto não atingir a idade adequada, o herdeiro não está numa posição muito melhor que a de um escravo, apesar de ser dono de todos os bens.
2 But is under keepers and managers till the time fixed by the father.
2 Deve obedecer a seus tutores e administradores até a idade determinada por seu pai.
3 So we, when we were young, were kept under the first rules of the world;
3 O mesmo acontecia conosco. Éramos como crianças; éramos escravos dos princípios básicos deste mundo.
4 But when the time had come, God sent out his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
4 Mas, quando chegou o tempo certo, Deus enviou seu Filho, nascido de uma mulher e sob a lei.
5 That he might make them free who were under the law, and that we might be given the place of sons.
5 Assim o fez para resgatar a nós que estávamos sob a lei, a fim de nos adotar como seus filhos.
6 And because you are sons, God has sent out the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, saying, Abba, Father.
6 E, porque nós somos seus filhos, Deus enviou ao nosso coração o Espírito de seu Filho, e por meio dele clamamos: “ Aba , Pai”.
7 So that you are no longer a servant, but a son; and if a son, then the heritage of God is yours.
7 Agora você já não é escravo, mas filho de Deus. E, uma vez que é filho, Deus o tornou herdeiro dele.
8 But at that time, having no knowledge of God, you were servants to those who by right are no gods:
8 Antes de conhecerem a Deus, vocês eram escravos de supostos deuses que, na verdade, nem existem.
9 But now that you have come to have knowledge of God, or more truly, God has knowledge of you, how is it that you go back again to the poor and feeble first things, desiring to be servants to them again?
9 Agora que conhecem a Deus, ou melhor, agora que Deus os conhece, por que desejam voltar atrás e tornar-se novamente escravos dos frágeis e inúteis princípios básicos deste mundo?
10 You keep days, and months, and fixed times, and years.
10 Vocês insistem em guardar certos dias, meses, estações ou anos.
11 I am in fear of you, that I may have been working for you to no purpose.
11 Temo por vocês. Talvez meu árduo trabalho em seu favor tenha sido inútil.
12 My desire for you, brothers, is that you may be as I am, because I am as you are. You have done me no wrong;
12 Irmãos, peço-lhes que sejam como eu, pois eu também sou como vocês. E vocês não me trataram mal
13 But you have knowledge that with a feeble body I was preaching the good news to you the first time;
13 e certamente se lembram de que eu estava doente quando lhes anunciei as boas-novas pela primeira vez.
14 And you did not have a poor opinion of me because of the trouble in my flesh, or put shame on it; but you took me to your hearts as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
14 Embora minha saúde precária fosse uma tentação para me rejeitarem, vocês não me desprezaram nem me mandaram embora. Ao contrário, acolheram-me e cuidaram de mim como se eu fosse um anjo de Deus, ou mesmo o próprio Cristo Jesus.
15 Where then is that happy condition of yours? because I give you witness, that, if possible, you would have taken out your eyes and given them to me.
15 Que aconteceu com a alegria que vocês demonstraram naquela ocasião? Estou certo de que, se fosse possível, teriam arrancado os próprios olhos e os teriam dado a mim.
16 So then am I no longer your friend, because I give you true words?
16 Acaso me tornei inimigo de vocês porque lhes digo a verdade?
17 Their interest in you is not good; but their desire is that you may be shut out, so that you may go after them.
17 Esses falsos mestres estão extremamente ansiosos para agradá-los, mas suas intenções não são boas. Querem afastá-los de mim para que dependam deles.
18 But it is good to have an interest in a good cause at all times, and not only when I am present with you.
18 Se alguém deseja agradá-los, muito bem; mas que o faça sempre, e não só quando estou com vocês.
19 My children, of whom I am again in birth-pains till Christ is formed in you,
19 Ó meus filhos queridos, sinto como se estivesse passando outra vez pelas dores de parto por sua causa, e elas continuarão até que Cristo seja plenamente desenvolvido em vocês.
20 Truly my desire is to be present with you now, using a changed voice; for I am troubled about you.
20 Gostaria de poder estar aí com vocês para lhes falar em outro tom. Mas, distante como estou, não sei o que mais fazer para ajudá-los.
21 Say, you whose desire it is to be under the law, do you not give ear to the law?
21 Digam-me, vocês que desejam viver debaixo da lei: acaso sabem o que a lei diz de fato?
22 Because it is in the Writings, that Abraham had two sons, one by the servant-woman, and one by the free woman.
22 De acordo com as Escrituras, Abraão teve dois filhos, um nascido de uma escrava e outro de sua esposa, que era livre.
23 Now the son by the servant-woman has his birth after the flesh; but the son by the free woman has his birth through the undertaking of God.
23 O filho da escrava nasceu segundo a vontade humana; o filho da mulher livre nasceu segundo a promessa.
24 Which things have a secret sense; because these women are the two agreements; one from the mountain of Sinai, giving birth to servants, which is Hagar.
24 Essas duas mulheres ilustram duas alianças. A primeira, Hagar, representa o monte Sinai, onde o povo recebeu a lei que o escravizou.
25 Now this Hagar is the mountain Sinai in Arabia, and is the image of the Jerusalem which now is: which is a servant with her children.
25 E Hagar, que é o monte Sinai, na Arábia, representa a Jerusalém de agora, pois ela e seus filhos vivem sob a escravidão da lei.
26 But the Jerusalem on high is free, which is our mother.
26 A segunda, Sara, representa a Jerusalém celestial. Ela é a mulher livre, e é nossa mãe.
27 For it is in the Writings, You who have never given birth, be glad; give cries of joy, you who have had no birth-pains; for the children of her who has been given up by her husband are more than those of the woman who has a husband.
27 Como dizem as Escrituras: “Alegre-se, mulher sem filhos, você que nunca deu à luz! Grite de alegria, você que nunca esteve em trabalho de parto! Pois a abandonada agora tem mais filhos que a mulher que vive com o marido”.
28 Now we, brothers, as Isaac was, are the children of the undertaking of God.
28 E vocês, irmãos, são filhos da promessa, como Isaque.
29 But as in those days he who had birth after the flesh was cruel to him who had birth after the Spirit, even so it is now.
29 Ismael, o filho nascido da vontade humana, perseguiu Isaque, o filho nascido do poder do Espírito, e o mesmo ocorre agora.
30 What then do the Writings say? Send away the servant-woman and her son; for the son of the servant-woman will not have a part in the heritage with the son of the free woman.
30 Mas o que dizem as Escrituras sobre isso? “Livre-se da escrava e do filho dela, pois o filho da escrava não será herdeiro junto com o filho da mulher livre.”
31 So, brothers, we are not children of the servant-woman, but of the free woman.
31 Portanto, irmãos, não somos filhos da escrava; somos filhos da mulher livre.
