¹ And Elihu answereth and saith: --

¹ Disse mais Eliú:

² This hast thou reckoned for judgment: Thou hast said -- `My righteousness [is] more than God`s?`

² Tens por direito dizeres: Maior é a minha justiça do que a de Deus?

³ For thou sayest, `What doth it profit Thee! What do I profit from my sin?`

³ Porque dizes: Que me aproveita? Que proveito tenho mais do que se eu tivera pecado?

⁴ I return thee words, and thy friends with thee,

⁴ Eu te darei respostas, a ti e aos teus amigos contigo.

⁵ Behold attentively the heavens -- and see, And behold the clouds, They have been higher than thou.

⁵ Atenta para os céus, e vê; e contempla o firmamento que é mais alto do que tu.

⁶ If thou hast sinned, what dost thou against Him? And thy transgressions have been multiplied, What dost thou to Him?

⁶ Se pecares, que efetuarás contra ele? Se as tuas transgressões se multiplicarem, que lhe farás com isso?

⁷ If thou hast been righteous, What dost thou give to Him? Or what from thy hand doth He receive?

⁷ Se fores justo, que lhe darás, ou que receberá ele da tua mão?

⁸ For a man like thyself [is] thy wickedness, And for a son of man thy righteousness.

⁸ A tua impiedade poderia fazer mal a outro tal como tu; e a tua justiça poderia aproveitar a um filho do homem.

⁹ Because of the multitude of oppressions They cause to cry out, They cry because of the arm of the mighty.

⁹ Por causa da multidão das opressões os homens clamam; clamam por socorro por causa do braço dos poderosos.

¹⁰ And none said, `Where [is] God my maker? Giving songs in the night,

¹⁰ Mas ninguém diz: Onde está Deus meu Criador, que inspira canções durante a noite;

¹¹ Teaching us more than the beasts of the earth, Yea, than the fowl of the heavens He maketh us wiser.`

¹¹ que nos ensina mais do que aos animais da terra, e nos faz mais sábios do que as aves do céu?

¹² There they cry, and He doth not answer, Because of the pride of evil doers.

¹² Ali clamam, porém ele não responde, por causa da arrogância os maus.

¹³ Surely vanity God doth not hear, And the Mighty doth not behold it.

¹³ Certo é que Deus não ouve o grito da vaidade, nem para ela atentará o Todo-Poderoso.

¹⁴ Yea, though thou sayest thou dost not behold Him, Judgment [is] before Him, and stay for Him.

¹⁴ Quanto menos quando tu dizes que não o vês. A causa está perante ele; por isso espera nele.

¹⁵ And, now, because there is not, He hath appointed His anger, And He hath not known in great extremity.

¹⁵ Mas agora, porque a sua ira ainda não se exerce, nem grandemente considera ele a arrogância,

¹⁶ And Job [with] vanity doth open his mouth, Without knowledge words he multiplieth.

¹⁶ por isso abre Jó em vão a sua boca, e sem conhecimento multiplica palavras.
