¹ And Job answereth and saith: --

¹ Jó, porém, respondeu e disse:

² What -- thou hast helped the powerless, Saved an arm not strong!

² Como ajudaste aquele que não tinha força e sustentaste o braço que não tinha vigor!

³ What -- thou hast given counsel to the unwise, And wise plans in abundance made known.

³ Como aconselhaste aquele que não tinha sabedoria e plenamente lhe fizeste saber a causa, assim como era!

⁴ With whom hast thou declared words? And whose breath came forth from thee?

⁴ Para quem proferiste palavras? E de quem é o espírito que saiu de ti?

⁵ The Rephaim are formed, Beneath the waters, also their inhabitants.

⁵ Os mortos tremem debaixo das águas com os seus moradores.

⁶ Naked [is] Sheol over-against Him, And there is no covering to destruction.

⁶ O inferno está nu perante ele, e não há coberta para a perdição.

⁷ Stretching out the north over desolation, Hanging the earth upon nothing,

⁷ O norte estende sobre o vazio; suspende a terra sobre o nada.

⁸ Binding up the waters in His thick clouds, And the cloud is not rent under them.

⁸ Prende as águas em densas nuvens, e a nuvem não se rasga debaixo delas.

⁹ Taking hold of the face of the throne, Spreading over it His cloud.

⁹ Encobre a face do seu trono e sobre ela estende a sua nuvem.

¹⁰ A limit He hath placed on the waters, Unto the boundary of light with darkness.

¹⁰ Marcou um limite à superfície das águas em redor, até aos confins da luz e das trevas.

¹¹ Pillars of the heavens do tremble, And they wonder because of His rebuke.

¹¹ As colunas do céu tremem e se espantam da sua ameaça.

¹² By His power He hath quieted the sea, And by His understanding smitten the proud.

¹² Com a sua força fende o mar e com o seu entendimento abate a sua soberba.

¹³ By His Spirit the heavens He beautified, Formed hath His hand the fleeing serpent.

¹³ Pelo seu Espírito ornou os céus; a sua mão formou a serpente enroscadiça.

¹⁴ Lo, these [are] the borders of His way, And how little a matter is heard of Him, And the thunder of His might Who doth understand?

¹⁴ Eis que isto são apenas as orlas dos seus caminhos; e quão pouco é o que temos ouvido dele! Quem, pois, entenderia o trovão do seu poder?
