1 Therfor putte ye awei al malice, and al gile, and feynyngis, and enuyes, and alle bacbityngis;
1 Abandonando toda a malícia, e todo o engano, e hipocrisias, e invejas, e toda a maledicência.
2 as now borun yonge children, resonable, with out gile, coueite ye mylk, that in it ye wexe in to helthe; if netheles ye han tastid,
2 Como bebês recém-nascidos, desejai o leite genuíno da palavra, a fim de que assim possais crescer,
3 that the Lord is swete.
3 se é que já provastes que o Senhor é benévolo.
4 And neiye ye to hym, that is a lyuyng stoon, and repreuyd of men, but chosun of God, and onourid;
4 Chegando-vos para ele, como para uma pedra viva, reprovada, de fato, pelos homens, mas eleita por Deus, e preciosa.
5 and ye silf as quyk stoonys be ye aboue bildid in to spiritual housis, and an hooli preesthod, to offre spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God bi Jhesu Crist.
5 Vós também, como pedras vivas, sois edificados uma casa espiritual, um sacerdócio santo, para oferecer sacrifícios espirituais, aceitáveis a Deus por Jesus Cristo.
6 For which thing the scripture seith, Lo! Y schal sette in Syon the hiyeste corner stoon, chosun and preciouse; and he that schal belieue in hym, schal not be confoundid.
6 Porquanto também a Escritura contém: Eis que ponho em Sião a principal pedra angular, eleita e preciosa; e aquele que nela crer não será confundido.
7 Therfor onour to you that bileuen; but to men that bileuen not, the stoon whom the bilderis repreuyden, this is maad in to the heed of the corner; and the stoon of hirtyng,
7 E assim para vós, os que credes, ele é precioso, mas para os desobedientes, a pedra que os construtores reprovaram, essa mesma foi feita a principal da esquina.
8 and stoon of sclaundre, to hem that offenden to the word, nethir bileuen it, in which thei ben set.
8 E uma pedra de tropeço e rocha de ofensa, também para aqueles que tropeçam na palavra, sendo desobedientes; para o que também foram destinados.
9 But ye ben a chosun kyn, a kyngli preesthod, hooli folc, a puple of purchasing, that ye telle the vertues of hym, that clepide you fro derknessis in to his wondirful liyt.
9 Mas vós sois uma geração escolhida, um sacerdócio real, uma nação santa, um povo peculiar, para que anuncieis os louvores daquele que vos chamou das trevas para a sua maravilhosa luz.
10 Which sum tyme were not a puple of God, but now ye ben the puple of God; which hadden not merci, but now ye han merci.
10 Vós que em tempo passado não éreis povo, mas sois agora o povo de Deus; que não tínheis alcançado misericórdia, mas agora alcançastes misericórdia.
11 Moost dere, Y biseche you, as comelyngis and pilgrymys, to absteine you fro fleischli desiris, that fiyten ayens the soule;
11 Mui amados, rogo-vos, como estrangeiros e peregrinos, que vos abstenhais das concupiscências carnais, que guerreiam contra a alma.
12 and haue ye youre conuersacioun good among hethene men, that in that thing that thei bacbite of you, as of mysdoeris, thei biholden you of good werkis, and glorifie God in the dai of visitacioun.
12 Sendo o vosso comportamento honesto entre os gentios, para que, apesar de falarem mal de vós, como falam de malfeitores, possam glorificar a Deus no dia da visitação, pelas boas obras que em vós hão de contemplar.
13 Be ye suget to ech creature, for God; ethir to the kyng, as to hym that is hiyer in state,
13 Submetei-vos, pois, a todo decreto humano por amor ao Senhor; quer seja ao rei, como superior;
14 ethir to duykis, as to thilke that ben sent of hym to the veniaunce of mysdoers, and to the preisyng of good men.
14 quer aos governadores, ou àqueles por ele enviados para castigo dos malfeitores, e para louvor dos que fazem o bem.
15 For so is the wille of God, that ye do wel, and make the vnkunnyngnesse of vnprudent men to be doumb.
15 Porque assim é a vontade de Deus, que, fazendo o bem, possais silenciar a ignorância dos homens insensatos.
16 As fre men, and not as hauynge fredom the keuering of malice, but as the seruauntis of God.
16 Como livres, e não usando a liberdade como uma capa para a malícia, mas como servos de Deus.
17 Onoure ye alle men, loue ye brithirhod, drede ye God, onoure ye the king.
17 Honrai a todos os homens. Amai a fraternidade. Temei a Deus. Honrai ao rei.
18 Seruauntis, be ye sugetis in al drede to lordis, not oneli to good and to mylde, but also to tyrauntis.
18 Servos, sujeitai-vos aos vossos senhores com todo o temor, não somente aos bons e gentis, mas também aos perversos.
19 For this is grace, if for conscience of God ony man suffrith heuynessis, and suffrith vniustli.
19 Pois isso é digno de reconhecimento, que um homem, por causa da consciência para com Deus, passe por aflição, sofrendo injustamente.
20 For what grace is it, if ye synnen, and ben buffatid, and suffren? But if ye don wel, and suffren pacientli, this is grace anentis God.
20 Porque, que glória será essa, se sois esbofeteados por vossas faltas, devendo suportar pacientemente? Mas se, fazendo o bem, sofreis por isso, e suportais pacientemente, isso é aceitável a Deus.
21 For to this thing ye ben clepid. For also Crist suffride for vs, and lefte ensaumple to you, that ye folewe the steppis of hym.
21 Porque para isto sois chamados; pois Cristo também sofreu por nós, deixando-nos um exemplo, para que sigais as suas pisadas.
22 Which dide not synne, nethir gile was foundun in his mouth.
22 O qual não pecou, e nem malícia se achou em sua boca.
23 And whanne he was cursid, he curside not; whanne he suffride, he manasside not; but he bitook hym silf to hym, that demyde hym vniustli.
23 O qual, quando injuriado, não devolvia a injúria, e quando sofria, não ameaçava, mas entregava-se àquele que julga justamente.
24 And he hym silf bar oure synnes in his bodi on a tre, that we be deed to synnes, and lyue to riytwisnesse, bi whos wan wounde ye ben heelid.
24 Aquele que em seu próprio corpo levou os nossos pecados sobre o madeiro, para que nós, mortos para os pecados, pudéssemos viver para a justiça; e pelas suas feridas fostes curados.
25 For ye weren as scheep errynge, but ye ben now turned to the schipherde, and bischop of youre soulis.
25 Porque éreis como ovelhas extraviadas; mas agora voltastes ao Pastor e Bispo das vossas almas.
