1 What thanne is more to a Jew, or what profit of circumcisioun?
1 Que vantagem então tem o judeu? Ou que proveito há na circuncisão?
2 Myche bi al wise; first, for the spekyngis of God `weren bitakun to hem.
2 Muita, sob todos os aspectos: Principalmente, porque, foram-lhes confiados os oráculos de Deus.
3 And what if summe of hem bileueden not? Whethir the vnbileue of hem hath auoidid the feith of God?
3 E se alguns deles não creram? A sua incredulidade anulará a fidelidade de Deus?
4 God forbede. For God is sothefast, but ech man a liere; as it is writun, That thou be iustified in thi wordis, and ouercome, whanne thou art demed.
4 De forma alguma! Sim, que Deus seja verdadeiro, e todo o homem mentiroso; como está escrito: Para que sejas justificado em tuas palavras, e venças quando fores julgado.
5 But if oure wickidnesse comende the riytwisnesse of God, what shulen we seie? Whether God is wickid, that bryngith in wraththe?
5 Mas se a nossa injustiça ressalta a justiça de Deus, o que nós diremos? Seria Deus injusto por tomar a vingança? (eu falo como homem).
6 Aftir man Y seie. God forbede. Ellis hou schal God deme this world?
6 De forma alguma! Pois então como Deus julgará o mundo?
7 For if the treuthe of God hath aboundid in my lessyng, in to the glorie of hym, what yit am Y demed as a synner?
7 Pois, se a minha mentira fez abundar a verdade de Deus para sua glória, por que sou eu ainda julgado também como um pecador?
8 And not as we ben blasfemed, and as summen seien that we seien, Do we yuele thingis, that gode thingis come. Whos dampnacioun is iust.
8 E por que não dizemos (como somos caluniosamente reportados, e como alguns afirmam que dizemos): Façamos o mal, para que venha o bem? A condenação dos tais é justa.
9 What thanne? Passen we hem? Nay; for we han schewid bi skile, that alle bothe Jewis and Grekis ben vndur synne,
9 Então o quê? Somos melhores do que eles? Não, de maneira nenhuma, pois nós já provamos antes que, tanto judeus como gentios, todos eles estão debaixo do pecado,
10 as it is writun, For ther is no man iust;
10 como está escrito: Não há nenhum justo, não, nem um.
11 ther is no man vndurstondynge, nethir sekynge God.
11 Não há ninguém que entenda; não há ninguém que busque a Deus.
12 Alle bowiden a wey, togidere thei ben maad vnprofitable; ther is noon that doith good thing, there is noon `til to oon.
12 Todos se desviaram do caminho, e juntamente se tornaram inúteis. Não há quem faça o bem, não há nem um.
13 The throte of hem is an opyn sepulcre; with her tungis thei diden gilefuli; the venym of snakis is vndur her lippis.
13 A sua garganta é um sepulcro aberto; com as suas línguas enganam; veneno de áspides está debaixo de seus lábios,
14 The mouth of whiche is ful of cursyng and bitternesse;
14 cuja boca está cheia de maldição e amargura;
15 the feet of hem ben swifte to schede blood.
15 os seus pés são velozes para derramar sangue;
16 Sorewe and cursidnesse ben in the weies of hem, and thei knewen not the weie of pees;
16 em seus caminhos há destruição e miséria;
17 — ausente —
17 e eles não conhecem o caminho da paz;
18 the drede of God is not bifor her iyen.
18 não há temor de Deus diante de seus olhos.
19 And we witen, that what euere thingis the lawe spekith, it spekith to hem that ben in the lawe, that ech mouth be stoppid, and ech world be maad suget to God.
19 Ora, nós sabemos que todas as coisas que diz a lei, ela o diz aos que estão debaixo da lei, para que toda a boca se cale, e todo o mundo se torne culpado diante de Deus.
20 For of the werkis of the lawe ech fleisch schal not be iustified bifor hym; for bi the lawe ther is knowyng of synne.
20 Por isso, pelas obras da lei, nenhuma carne será justificada à sua vista, porque por meio da lei vem o conhecimento do pecado.
21 But now with outen the lawe the riytwisnesse of God is schewid, that is witnessid of the lawe and the profetis.
21 Mas agora a justiça de Deus se manifestou sem a lei, tendo o testemunho da lei e dos profetas;
22 And the riytwisnesse of God is bi the feith of Jhesu Crist in to alle men and on alle men that bileuen in hym; for ther is no departyng.
22 a justiça de Deus, que é pela fé de Jesus Cristo para todos, e sobre todos os que creem; porque não há diferença;
23 For alle men synneden, and han nede to the glorie of God;
23 porque todos pecaram e estão privados da glória de Deus.
24 and ben iustified freli bi his grace, bi the ayenbiyng that is in `Crist Jhesu.
24 Sendo justificados livremente pela sua graça através da redenção que há em Cristo Jesus;
25 Whom God ordeynede foryyuer, bi feith in his blood, to the schewyng of his riytwisnesse, for remyssioun of biforgoynge synnes,
25 a quem Deus estabeleceu para ser uma propiciação através da fé no seu sangue, para declarar a sua justiça pela remissão dos pecados que são passados, na paciência de Deus;
26 in the beryng up of God, to the schewyng of his riytwisnesse in this tyme, that he be iust, and iustifyynge hym that is of the feith of Jhesu Crist.
26 para declarar, eu digo, a sua justiça neste tempo, para que ele seja justo e justificador daquele que crê em Jesus.
27 Where thanne is thi gloriyng? It is excludid. Bi what lawe? Of dedis doyng? Nay, but by the lawe of feith.
27 Onde está então a vanglória? É excluída. Por qual lei? Das obras? Não; mas pela lei da fé.
28 For we demen a man to be iustified bi the feith, with outen werkis of the lawe.
28 Portanto, concluímos que o homem é justificado pela fé sem as obras da lei.
29 Whethir of Jewis is God oneli? Whether he is not also of hethene men? Yhis, and of hethene men.
29 É ele Deus somente dos judeus? Não é ele também dos gentios? Sim, também dos gentios;
30 For `oon God is, that iustefieth circumcisioun bi feith, and prepucie bi feith.
30 visto que há um só Deus, que justifica a circuncisão pela fé, e a incircuncisão por meio da fé.
31 Distruye we therfor the lawe bi the feith? God forbede; but we stablischen the lawe.
31 Anulamos, então, a lei pela fé? De forma alguma! Antes estabelecemos a lei.
