1 Forsothe Dyna, the douytir of Lya, yede out to se the wymmen of that cuntrey.
1 E Diná, filha de Lia, que ela gerou a Jacó, saiu para ver as filhas da terra.
2 And whanne Sichem, the sone of Emor Euey, the prince of that lond, hadde seyn hir, he louede hir, and rauyschide, and sclepte with hir, and oppresside the virgyn bi violence.
2 E quando Siquém, filho de Hamor, o heveu, príncipe da terra, a viu, tomou-a e deitou-se com ela, e a desonrou.
3 And his soule was boundun faste with hir, and he pleside hir sory with flateringis.
3 E sua alma se apegou a Diná, filha de Jacó, e ele amou a donzela, e falou amorosamente à moça.
4 And he yede to Emor,
4 E Siquém falou com seu pai, Hamor, dizendo: Toma-me esta donzela por mulher.
5 his fadir, and seide, Take to me this damysel a wijf. And whanne Jacob hadde herd this thing, while the sones weren absent, and ocupied in the fedyng of scheep, he was stille, til thei camen ayen.
5 E Jacó ouviu que ele havia desonrado Diná, sua filha; ora, seus filhos estavam com seu gado no campo, e Jacó manteve-se quieto até eles chegarem.
6 Sotheli whanne Emor, the fadir of Sichem, was gon out, `that he schulde speke to Jacob, lo!
6 E Hamor, pai de Siquém, saiu para ter com Jacó, para conversar com ele.
7 hise sones camen fro the feeld. And whanne this thing that bifelde was herd, thei weren wroothe greetli; for he wrouyte a foul thing in Israel, and he hadde do a thing vnleueful in the defoulyng of the douyter of Jacob.
7 E os filhos de Jacó vieram do campo quando ouviram sobre isso. E os homens se entristeceram e se iraram muito, pois ele havia feito loucura em Israel ao deitar com a filha de Jacó, coisa que não deveria ter sido feita.
8 And so Emor spak to hem, The soule of my sone Sichem cleuyde to youre douytir, yeue ye hir a wijf to hym,
8 E Hamor conversou com eles, dizendo: A alma de meu filho Siquém anseia por tua filha; suplico-te que lha dês por mulher.
9 and ioyne we weddyngis to gidere; yyue ye youre douytris to vs,
9 E fazei vós casamentos conosco, e dai vossas filhas a nós, e tomai nossas filhas para vós.
10 and take ye oure douytris, and dwelle ye with vs; the lond is in youre power, tile ye, make ye marchaundise, and welde ye it.
10 E habitareis conosco, e a terra estará diante de vós; habitai e negociai nela, e adquiri possessão nela.
11 But also Sichem seide to the fadir and britheren of hir, Fynde Y grace bifor you, and what euer thingis ye ordeynen Y schal yyue;
11 E Siquém disse ao pai e aos irmãos dela: Ache eu graça aos vossos olhos, e o que me disserdes eu o darei.
12 encreesse ye the dower, and axe ye yiftis, Y schal yyue wilfull that that ye axen; oonli yyue ye this damysele a wijf to me.
12 Pedi-me o quanto mais quiserdes de dote e dádiva, e eu darei de acordo com o que me disserdes, mas dai-me a donzela por mulher.
13 The sones of Jacob answeriden in gile to Sichem and his fadir, and weren feerse for the defoulyng of maidenhod of the sistir,
13 E os filhos de Jacó responderam a Siquém e a Hamor, seu pai, enganosamente; e disseram, porque ele havia desonrado Diná, sua irmã,
14 We moun not do this that ye axen, nether we moun yyue oure sistir to a man vncircumcidid, which thing is vnleueful and abhomynable anentis vs.
14 e disseram-lhes: Não podemos fazer isso, dar a nossa irmã a alguém incircunciso, pois isso seria uma vergonha para nós.
15 But in this we schulen mowe be boundun in pees, if ye wole be lijk vs, and ech of male kynde be circumcidid in you,
15 Mas nisto consentiremos convosco: Se fordes como nós somos, que todo homem entre vós seja circuncidado,
16 thanne we schulen yyue and take togidre oure douytris and youre; and we schulen dwelle with you, and we schulen be o puple.
16 então daremos nossas filhas a vós, e nós tomaremos vossas filhas para nós, e habitaremos convosco, e nos tornaremos um povo.
17 Forsothe if ye nylen be circumcidid, we schulen take oure douytir, and schulen go a wei.
17 Mas se não nos ouvirdes, para serdes circuncidados, então tomaremos nossa filha, e nós iremos embora.
18 The profryng of hem pleside Emor and Sichem,
18 E as suas palavras agradaram a Hamor, e a Siquém, filho de Hamor.
19 his sone, and the yong wexynge man dilaiede not, that ne he fillide anoon that that was axid, for he louede the damysele greetli, and he was noble in al `the hous of his fadir.
19 E o jovem não tardou em fazer isto, pois ele tinha prazer na filha de Jacó, e ele era o mais honrável em toda a casa de seu pai.
20 And thei entriden in to the yate of the citee, and spaken to the puple,
20 E Hamor e Siquém, seu filho, vieram ao portão da sua cidade, e conversaram com os homens da sua cidade, dizendo:
21 These men ben pesible, and wolen dwelle with vs; make thei marchaundie in the loond, and tile thei it, which is large and brood, and hath nede to tileris; we schulen take her douytris to wyues, and we schulen yyue oure douytris to hem.
21 Estes homens são pacíficos conosco; por isso, deixai-os habitar na terra e negociar nela, pois a terra, eis que é grande o suficiente para eles; tomaremos as suas filhas para nós por mulheres, e daremos as nossas filhas a eles.
22 O thing is, for which so greet good is dilaied; if we circumciden oure malis, and suen the custom of the folc,
22 Somente nisto consentirão os homens conosco para habitar entre nós, para sermos um povo: se todo homem entre nós for circuncidado, assim como eles são circuncidados.
23 bothe her substaunce, and scheep, and alle thingis which thei welden, schulen be oure; oneli assente we in this, that we dwelle to gidere, and make o puple.
23 Não serão nossos o seu gado, suas posses e todos os seus animais? Somente consintamos com eles, e habitarão conosco.
24 And alle men assentiden, and alle malis weren circumcidid.
24 E a Hamor e a Siquém, seu filho, ouviram com atenção todos os que saíam do portão da sua cidade. E todo homem foi circuncidado, todos os que saíram do portão da sua cidade.
25 And lo! in the thridde day, whanne the sorewe of woundis was moost greuous, twei sones of acob, Symeon and Leuy, britheren of Dyna, token swerdis, and entriden in to the citee booldeli; and whanne alle malis weren slayn,
25 E aconteceu no terceiro dia que, quando eles estavam doloridos, dois dos filhos de Jacó, Simeão e Levi, irmãos de Diná, tomaram cada homem a sua espada, e vieram contra a cidade corajosamente, e mataram todos os homens.
26 thei killiden Emor and Sichem togidere, and token Dyna, her sistir, fro the hous of Sichem.
26 E eles mataram Hamor e Siquém, seu filho, ao fio da espada, e tomaram Diná da casa de Siquém, e saíram.
27 And whanne thei weren goon out, othere sones of Jacob felden in on the slayn men, and rifeliden the citee for the veniaunce of defoulyng of a virgyn.
27 Os filhos de Jacó vieram aos mortos e saquearam a cidade, porque eles haviam desonrado a sua irmã.
28 And thei wastiden the scheep of tho men, and droues of oxun, and assis, and alle thingis that weren in howsis and feeldis,
28 Tomaram as ovelhas deles, e os bois, e os jumentos, e o que estava na cidade, e o que estava no campo,
29 and ledden prisoneris the litle children, and wyues of tho men.
29 e toda a sua riqueza, e todos os seus pequenos, e suas mulheres eles tomaram cativas, e saquearam tudo o que havia na casa.
30 And whanne these thingis weren don hardili, Jacob seide to Symeon and Leuy, Ye han troblid me, and han maad me hateful to Cananeis and Fereseis, dwellers of this lond; we ben fewe, thei schulen be gaderid to gidere and schulen sle me, and Y schal be don a wey and myn hous.
30 E Jacó disse a Simeão e a Levi: Tendes me perturbado para me fazer cheirar mal entre os habitantes da terra, entre os cananeus e ferezeus. Sendo eu pequeno em número, eles se unirão contra mim, e me matarão; e serei destruído, eu e a minha casa.
31 Symeon and Leuy answeriden, Whether thei ouyten mysuse oure sistir as an hoore?
31 E eles disseram: Deveria ele tratar a nossa irmã como a uma prostituta?
