1 Forsothe the puple siy, that Moises made tariyng to come doun fro the hil, and it was gaderid ayens Aaron, and seide, Rise thou, and make goddis to vs, that schulen go bifore vs, for we witen not what bifelde to this Moises, that ladde vs out of the lond of Egipt.
1 O povo viu que Moisés estava demorando muito para descer do monte. Então eles se reuniram em volta de Arão e lhe disseram: — Não sabemos o que aconteceu com Moisés, aquele homem que nos tirou do Egito. Portanto, faça para nós deuses que vão à nossa frente.
2 And Aaron seide to hem, Take ye the goldun eere ryngis fro the eeris of youre wyues, and of sones and douytris, and brynge ye to me.
2 Arão lhes disse: — Tirem os brincos de ouro que as suas mulheres, os seus filhos e as suas filhas estão usando e tragam para mim.
3 The puple dide tho thingis, that he comaundide, and brouyte eere ryngis to Aaron;
3 Então os israelitas tiraram das orelhas os brincos de ouro e os trouxeram a Arão.
4 and whanne he hadde take tho, he formede bi `werk of yetyng, and made of tho a yotun calf. And thei seiden, Israel, these ben thi goddis, that ladde thee out of the lond of Egipt.
4 Ele pegou os brincos, derreteu-os, derramou o ouro dentro de um molde e fez um bezerro de ouro. Então disseram: — Povo de Israel, estes são os nossos deuses, que nos tiraram do Egito!
5 And whanne Aaron had seyn this thing, he bildide an auter bifore hym, and he criede bi the vois of a criere, and seide, To morewe is the solempnete of the Lord.
5 Arão construiu um altar diante do bezerro de ouro e anunciou ao povo: — Amanhã haverá uma festa em honra de Deus, o
6 And thei rysen eerli, and offeriden brent sacrifyces, and pesible sacrifices; and the puple sat to ete and drynke, and thei risen to pley.
6 No dia seguinte, de manhã cedo, eles trouxeram alguns animais para serem queimados como sacrifício e outros para serem comidos como ofertas de paz. Depois o povo sentou-se para comer e beber e se levantou para se divertir.
7 Forsothe the Lord spak to Moises, and seide, Go thou, go doun, thi puple hath synned, `whom thou leddist out of the lond of Egipt.
7 Então o Senhor Deus disse a Moisés: — Desça depressa porque o seu povo, o povo que você tirou do Egito, pecou e me rejeitou.
8 Thei yeden awei soone fro the weie which thou schewidst to hem, and thei maden to hem a yotun calf, and worschipyden it, and thei offeriden sacrifices to it, and seiden, Israel, these ben thi goddis, that ledden thee out of the lond of Egipt.
8 Eles já deixaram o caminho que eu mandei que seguissem; fizeram um bezerro de ouro fundido, e o adoraram, e lhe ofereceram sacrifícios. Estão dizendo que estes são os deuses deles, os deuses que os tiraram do Egito.
9 And eft the Lord seide to Moises, Y se, that this puple is of hard nol;
9 Eu conheço este povo e sei que é muito teimoso.
10 suffre thou me, that my woodnesse be wrooth ayens hem, and that Y do awey hem; and Y schal make thee in to a greet folk.
10 Agora não tente me impedir, pois vou descarregar a minha ira sobre esta gente e vou acabar com eles. Depois farei de você e dos seus descendentes uma grande nação.
11 Forsothe Moises preiede `his Lord God, and seide, Lord, whi is thi veniaunce wrooth ayens thi puple, whom thou leddist out of the lond of Egipt in greet strengthe and in stronge hond?
11 Porém Moisés fez um pedido ao Senhor , seu Deus. Ele disse: — Ó
12 Y biseche, that Egipcians seie not, he ledde hem out felli, `that he schulde sle in the hillis, and to do awei fro erthe, thin ire ceesse, and be thou quemeful on the wickidnesse of thi puple.
12 Por que deixar que os egípcios venham a dizer que tiraste o teu povo do Egito para matá-lo nos montes e destruí-lo completamente? Não fiques assim irado; muda de ideia e não faças cair sobre o teu povo essa desgraça.
13 Haue thou mynde of Abraham, of Ysaac, and of Israel, thi seruauntis, to whiche thou hast swore bi thi silf, and seidist, Y schal multiplie youre seed as the sterris of heuene, and Y schal yyue to youre seed al this lond of which Y spak, and ye schulen welde it euere.
13 Lembra dos teus servos Abraão, Isaque e Jacó. Lembra do juramento que fizeste de lhes dar tantos descendentes quantas estrelas há no céu. Lembra também que prometeste que darias aos seus descendentes toda aquela terra para ser propriedade deles para sempre.
14 And the Lord was plesid, that he dide not the yuel which he spak ayens his puple.
14 Então o Senhor Deus mudou de ideia e não fez cair sobre o seu povo a desgraça que havia prometido.
15 And Moises turnede ayen fro the hil, and bar in his hond twei tablis of witnessyng, writun in euer either side,
15 Moisés desceu do monte, carregando as duas placas de pedra com os mandamentos escritos nos dois lados de cada pedra.
16 and maad bi the werk of God; and the writyng of God was grauun in tablis.
16 O próprio Deus havia feito as placas e tinha gravado nelas os mandamentos.
17 Forsothe Josue herde the noise of the puple criynge, and seide to Moyses, Yellyng of fiytyng is herd in the castels.
17 Josué ouviu o povo gritando e disse a Moisés: — Estou ouvindo um barulho de guerra no acampamento.
18 To whom Moises answeride, It is not cry of men exitynge to batel, nether the cry of men compellynge to fleyng, but Y here the vois of syngeris.
18 Moisés disse: — Não parece um barulho de vitória, nem um grito de derrota; o que estou ouvindo é gente cantando.
19 And whanne he hadde neiyid to the castels, he siy the calf, and dauncis; and he was wrooth greetli, and `castide forth the tablis fro the hond, and brak tho at the rootis of the hil.
19 Quando Moisés chegou perto do acampamento, viu o bezerro de ouro e o povo, que estava dançando, e ficou furioso. Ali, ao pé do monte, ele jogou no chão as placas de pedra que estava carregando e quebrou-as.
20 And he took the calf, which thei hadden maad, and brente, and brak `til to poudur, which he spreynte in to watir, and yaf therof drynke to the sones of Israel.
20 Então pegou o bezerro de ouro que eles haviam feito, queimou-o no fogo e o moeu até virar pó e espalhou o pó na água. Em seguida mandou que o povo de Israel bebesse daquela água.
21 And Moises seide to Aaron, What dide this puple to thee, that thou brouytist in on hym the gretteste synne?
21 E Moisés disse a Arão: — O que é que esta gente lhe fez, para que você a levasse a cometer esse pecado tão horrível?
22 To whom he answeride, My lord, be not wrooth, for thou knowist this puple, that it is enclynaunt to yuel;
22 Arão respondeu: — Não fique com raiva de mim. Você sabe como este povo está sempre pronto para fazer o mal.
23 thei seiden to me, Make thou goddis to vs, that schulen go bifore vs, for we witen not, what bifelde to this Moises, that ladde vs out of the lond of Egipt.
23 Eles me disseram: “Não sabemos o que aconteceu com Moisés, aquele homem que nos tirou do Egito. Portanto, faça para nós deuses que sejam os nossos líderes.”
24 To whiche Y seide, Who of you hath gold? Thei token, and yauen to me, and Y castide it forth in to the fier, and this calf yede out.
24 Aí eu mandei que quem tivesse enfeites de ouro os tirasse e me desse. Joguei aqueles enfeites no fogo, e saiu este bezerro!
25 Therfor Moyses siy the puple, that it was maad bare; for Aaron hadde spuylid it for the schenschip of filthe, and hadde maad the puple nakid among enemyes.
25 Moisés viu que Arão havia deixado o povo completamente sem controle, fazendo assim que os seus inimigos zombassem deles.
26 And Moises stood in the yate of the castels, and seide, If ony man is of the Lord, be he ioyned to me; and alle the sones of Leuy weren gaderid to hym.
26 Então ficou na entrada do acampamento e disse: — Quem estiver do lado de Deus, o Então todos os
27 To whiche he seide, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, A man putte swerd on his hipe, go ye, and `go ye ayen fro yate `til to yate bi the myddil of the castels, and ech man sle his brother, freend, and neiybore.
27 e ele disse: — O
28 The sones of Leuy diden bi the word of Moises, and as thre and twenti thousynd of men felden doun in that day.
28 Os levitas obedeceram à ordem de Moisés e mataram naquele dia mais ou menos três mil homens.
29 And Moises seide, Ye han halewid youre hondis to dai to the Lord, ech man in his sone, and brother, that blessyng be youun to you.
29 Moisés disse aos levitas: — Hoje vocês mataram os seus filhos e os seus irmãos e assim se consagraram como sacerdotes para o serviço de Deus, o
30 Sotheli whanne `the tother day was maad, Moises spak to the puple, Ye han synned the moost synne; Y schal stie to the Lord, if in ony maner Y schal mowe biseche hym for youre felony.
30 No dia seguinte Moisés disse ao povo: — Vocês cometeram um pecado horrível. Porém agora vou subir outra vez o monte para falar com o
31 And he turnede ayen to the Lord, and seide, Lord, Y biseche, this puple hath synned a greet synne, and thei han maad goldun goddis to hem; ethir foryyue thou this gilt to hem,
31 Moisés voltou para o lugar onde o Senhor estava e disse: — Este povo cometeu um pecado terrível. Eles fizeram um deus de ouro e o adoraram.
32 ether if thou doist not, do awey me fro thi book, which thou hast write.
32 Por favor, perdoa o pecado deles! Porém, se não quiseres perdoar, então tira o meu nome do teu livro, onde escreveste os nomes dos que são teus.
33 To whom the Lord answeride, Y schal do awey fro my book hym that synneth ayens me;
33 Então o Senhor disse a Moisés: — Riscarei do meu livro todos os que pecaram contra mim.
34 forsothe go thou, and lede this puple, whydur Y spak to thee; myn aungel schal go bifore thee; forsothe in the day of veniaunce Y schal visite also this synne of hem.
34 Agora vá e leve o povo para o lugar que eu mandei. Lembre que o meu Anjo guiará você. Porém já está chegando o tempo em que vou castigar este povo pelo seu pecado.
35 Therfor the Lord smoot the puple for the gilt of the calf, which calf Aaron made.
35 Por isso o Senhor Deus castigou os israelitas com uma doença, pois eles haviam obrigado Arão a fazer o bezerro de ouro.
