1 Forsothe the puple siy, that Moises made tariyng to come doun fro the hil, and it was gaderid ayens Aaron, and seide, Rise thou, and make goddis to vs, that schulen go bifore vs, for we witen not what bifelde to this Moises, that ladde vs out of the lond of Egipt.
1 Mas vendo o povo que Moisés tardava em descer do monte, acercou-se de Arão, e disse-lhe: Levanta-te, faze-nos deuses, que vão adiante de nós; porque quanto a este Moisés, o homem que nos tirou da terra do Egito, não sabemos o que lhe sucedeu.
2 And Aaron seide to hem, Take ye the goldun eere ryngis fro the eeris of youre wyues, and of sones and douytris, and brynge ye to me.
2 E Arão lhes disse: Arrancai os pendentes de ouro, que estão nas orelhas de vossas mulheres, e de vossos filhos, e de vossas filhas, e trazei-mos.
3 The puple dide tho thingis, that he comaundide, and brouyte eere ryngis to Aaron;
3 Então todo o povo arrancou os pendentes de ouro, que estavam nas suas orelhas, e os trouxeram a Arão.
4 and whanne he hadde take tho, he formede bi `werk of yetyng, and made of tho a yotun calf. And thei seiden, Israel, these ben thi goddis, that ladde thee out of the lond of Egipt.
4 E ele os tomou das suas mãos, e trabalhou o ouro com um buril, e fez dele um bezerro de fundição. Então disseram: Este é teu deus, ó Israel, que te tirou da terra do Egito.
5 And whanne Aaron had seyn this thing, he bildide an auter bifore hym, and he criede bi the vois of a criere, and seide, To morewe is the solempnete of the Lord.
5 E Arão, vendo isto, edificou um altar diante dele; e apregoou Arão, e disse: Amanhã será festa ao Senhor.
6 And thei rysen eerli, and offeriden brent sacrifyces, and pesible sacrifices; and the puple sat to ete and drynke, and thei risen to pley.
6 E no dia seguinte madrugaram, e ofereceram holocaustos, e trouxeram ofertas pacíficas; e o povo assentou-se a comer e a beber; depois levantou-se a folgar.
7 Forsothe the Lord spak to Moises, and seide, Go thou, go doun, thi puple hath synned, `whom thou leddist out of the lond of Egipt.
7 Então disse o Senhor a Moisés: Vai, desce; porque o teu povo, que fizeste subir do Egito, se tem corrompido,
8 Thei yeden awei soone fro the weie which thou schewidst to hem, and thei maden to hem a yotun calf, and worschipyden it, and thei offeriden sacrifices to it, and seiden, Israel, these ben thi goddis, that ledden thee out of the lond of Egipt.
8 E depressa se tem desviado do caminho que eu lhe tinha ordenado; eles fizeram para si um bezerro de fundição, e perante ele se inclinaram, e ofereceram-lhe sacrifícios, e disseram: Este é o teu deus, ó Israel, que te tirou da terra do Egito.
9 And eft the Lord seide to Moises, Y se, that this puple is of hard nol;
9 Disse mais o Senhor a Moisés: Tenho visto a este povo, e eis que é povo de dura cerviz.
10 suffre thou me, that my woodnesse be wrooth ayens hem, and that Y do awey hem; and Y schal make thee in to a greet folk.
10 Agora, pois, deixa-me, para que o meu furor se acenda contra ele, e o consuma; e eu farei de ti uma grande nação.
11 Forsothe Moises preiede `his Lord God, and seide, Lord, whi is thi veniaunce wrooth ayens thi puple, whom thou leddist out of the lond of Egipt in greet strengthe and in stronge hond?
11 Moisés, porém, suplicou ao Senhor seu Deus e disse: Ó Senhor, por que se acende o teu furor contra o teu povo, que tiraste da terra do Egito com grande força e com forte mão?
12 Y biseche, that Egipcians seie not, he ledde hem out felli, `that he schulde sle in the hillis, and to do awei fro erthe, thin ire ceesse, and be thou quemeful on the wickidnesse of thi puple.
12 Por que hão de falar os egípcios, dizendo: Para mal os tirou, para matá-los nos montes, e para destruí-los da face da terra? Torna-te do furor da tua ira, e arrepende-te deste mal contra o teu povo.
13 Haue thou mynde of Abraham, of Ysaac, and of Israel, thi seruauntis, to whiche thou hast swore bi thi silf, and seidist, Y schal multiplie youre seed as the sterris of heuene, and Y schal yyue to youre seed al this lond of which Y spak, and ye schulen welde it euere.
13 Lembra-te de Abraão, de Isaque, e de Israel, os teus servos, aos quais por ti mesmo tens jurado, e lhes disseste: Multiplicarei a vossa descendência como as estrelas dos céus, e darei à vossa descendência toda esta terra, de que tenho falado, para que a possuam por herança eternamente.
14 And the Lord was plesid, that he dide not the yuel which he spak ayens his puple.
14 Então o Senhor arrependeu-se do mal que dissera que havia de fazer ao seu povo.
15 And Moises turnede ayen fro the hil, and bar in his hond twei tablis of witnessyng, writun in euer either side,
15 E virou-se Moisés e desceu do monte com as duas tábuas do testemunho na mão, tábuas escritas de ambos os lados; de um e de outro lado estavam escritas.
16 and maad bi the werk of God; and the writyng of God was grauun in tablis.
16 E aquelas tábuas eram obra de Deus; também a escritura era a mesma escritura de Deus, esculpida nas tábuas.
17 Forsothe Josue herde the noise of the puple criynge, and seide to Moyses, Yellyng of fiytyng is herd in the castels.
17 E, ouvindo Josué a voz do povo que jubilava, disse a Moisés: Alarido de guerra há no arraial.
18 To whom Moises answeride, It is not cry of men exitynge to batel, nether the cry of men compellynge to fleyng, but Y here the vois of syngeris.
18 Porém ele respondeu: Não é alarido dos vitoriosos, nem alarido dos vencidos, mas o alarido dos que cantam, eu ouço.
19 And whanne he hadde neiyid to the castels, he siy the calf, and dauncis; and he was wrooth greetli, and `castide forth the tablis fro the hond, and brak tho at the rootis of the hil.
19 E aconteceu que, chegando Moisés ao arraial, e vendo o bezerro e as danças, acendeu-se-lhe o furor, e arremessou as tábuas das suas mãos, e quebrou-as ao pé do monte;
20 And he took the calf, which thei hadden maad, and brente, and brak `til to poudur, which he spreynte in to watir, and yaf therof drynke to the sones of Israel.
20 E tomou o bezerro que tinham feito, e queimou-o no fogo, moendo-o até que se tornou em pó; e o espargiu sobre as águas, e deu-o a beber aos filhos de Israel.
21 And Moises seide to Aaron, What dide this puple to thee, that thou brouytist in on hym the gretteste synne?
21 E Moisés perguntou a Arão: Que te tem feito este povo, que sobre ele trouxeste tamanho pecado?
22 To whom he answeride, My lord, be not wrooth, for thou knowist this puple, that it is enclynaunt to yuel;
22 Então respondeu Arão: Não se acenda a ira do meu senhor; tu sabes que este povo é inclinado ao mal;
23 thei seiden to me, Make thou goddis to vs, that schulen go bifore vs, for we witen not, what bifelde to this Moises, that ladde vs out of the lond of Egipt.
23 E eles me disseram: Faze-nos um deus que vá adiante de nós; porque não sabemos o que sucedeu a este Moisés, a este homem que nos tirou da terra do Egito.
24 To whiche Y seide, Who of you hath gold? Thei token, and yauen to me, and Y castide it forth in to the fier, and this calf yede out.
24 Então eu lhes disse: Quem tem ouro, arranque-o; e deram-mo, e lancei-o no fogo, e saiu este bezerro.
25 Therfor Moyses siy the puple, that it was maad bare; for Aaron hadde spuylid it for the schenschip of filthe, and hadde maad the puple nakid among enemyes.
25 E, vendo Moisés que o povo estava despido, porque Arão o havia deixado despir-se para vergonha entre os seus inimigos,
26 And Moises stood in the yate of the castels, and seide, If ony man is of the Lord, be he ioyned to me; and alle the sones of Leuy weren gaderid to hym.
26 Pôs-se em pé Moisés na porta do arraial e disse: Quem é do Senhor, venha a mim. Então se ajuntaram a ele todos os filhos de Levi.
27 To whiche he seide, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, A man putte swerd on his hipe, go ye, and `go ye ayen fro yate `til to yate bi the myddil of the castels, and ech man sle his brother, freend, and neiybore.
27 E disse-lhes: Assim diz o Senhor Deus de Israel: Cada um ponha a sua espada sobre a sua coxa; e passai e tornai pelo arraial de porta em porta, e mate cada um a seu irmão, e cada um a seu amigo, e cada um a seu vizinho.
28 The sones of Leuy diden bi the word of Moises, and as thre and twenti thousynd of men felden doun in that day.
28 E os filhos de Levi fizeram conforme à palavra de Moisés; e caíram do povo aquele dia uns três mil homens.
29 And Moises seide, Ye han halewid youre hondis to dai to the Lord, ech man in his sone, and brother, that blessyng be youun to you.
29 Porquanto Moisés tinha dito: Consagrai hoje as vossas mãos ao Senhor; porquanto cada um será contra o seu filho e contra o seu irmão; e isto, para que ele vos conceda hoje uma bênção.
30 Sotheli whanne `the tother day was maad, Moises spak to the puple, Ye han synned the moost synne; Y schal stie to the Lord, if in ony maner Y schal mowe biseche hym for youre felony.
30 E aconteceu que no dia seguinte Moisés disse ao povo: Vós cometestes grande pecado. Agora, porém, subirei ao Senhor; porventura farei propiciação por vosso pecado.
31 And he turnede ayen to the Lord, and seide, Lord, Y biseche, this puple hath synned a greet synne, and thei han maad goldun goddis to hem; ethir foryyue thou this gilt to hem,
31 Assim tornou-se Moisés ao Senhor, e disse: Ora, este povo cometeu grande pecado fazendo para si deuses de ouro.
32 ether if thou doist not, do awey me fro thi book, which thou hast write.
32 Agora, pois, perdoa o seu pecado; se não, risca-me, peço-te, do teu livro, que tens escrito.
33 To whom the Lord answeride, Y schal do awey fro my book hym that synneth ayens me;
33 Então disse o Senhor a Moisés: Aquele que pecar contra mim, a este riscarei do meu livro.
34 forsothe go thou, and lede this puple, whydur Y spak to thee; myn aungel schal go bifore thee; forsothe in the day of veniaunce Y schal visite also this synne of hem.
34 Vai, pois, agora, conduze este povo para onde te tenho dito; eis que o meu anjo irá adiante de ti; porém no dia da minha visitação visitarei neles o seu pecado.
35 Therfor the Lord smoot the puple for the gilt of the calf, which calf Aaron made.
35 Assim feriu o Senhor o povo, por ter sido feito o bezerro que Arão tinha formado.
