1 These ben the names of the sones of Israel, that entriden into Egipt with Jacob; alle entriden with her housis;
1 Estes pois são os nomes dos filhos de Israel, que entraram no Egito com Jacó; cada um entrou com sua casa:
2 Ruben, Symeon,
2 Rúben, Simeão, Levi, e Judá;
3 Leuy, Judas, Isachar, Zabulon, and Benjamin,
3 Issacar, Zebulom, e Benjamim;
4 Dan, and Neptalim, Gad, and Aser.
4 Dã e Naftali, Gade e Aser.
5 Therfor alle the soules of hem that yeden out of `the hipe of Jacob weren seuenti and fyue.
5 Todas as almas, pois, que procederam dos lombos de Jacó, foram setenta almas; José, porém, estava no Egito.
6 Forsothe Joseph was in Egipt; and whanne he was deed, and alle hise brithren, and al his kynrede,
6 Faleceu José, e todos os seus irmãos, e toda aquela geração.
7 the sones of Israel encreessiden, and weren multiplied as buriounnyng, and thei weren maad strong greetli, and filliden the lond.
7 E os filhos de Israel frutificaram, aumentaram muito, e multiplicaram-se, e foram fortalecidos grandemente; de maneira que a terra se encheu deles.
8 A newe kyng, that knewe not Joseph, roos in the meene tyme on Egipt, and seide to his puple, Lo!
8 E levantou-se um novo rei sobre o Egito, que não conhecera a José;
9 the puple of the sones of Israel is myche, and strongere than we;
9 O qual disse ao seu povo: Eis que o povo dos filhos de Israel é muito, e mais poderoso do que nós.
10 come ye, wiseli oppresse we it, lest perauenture it be multiplied; and lest, if batel risith ayens vs, it be addid to oure enemyes, and go out of the lond, whanne we ben ouercomun.
10 Eia, usemos de sabedoria para com eles, para que não se multipliquem, e aconteça que, vindo guerra, eles também se ajuntem com os nossos inimigos, e pelejem contra nós, e subam da terra.
11 And so he made maistris of werkis souereyns to hem, that thei schulden turmente hem with chargis. And thei maden citees of tabernaclis to Farao, Fiton, and Ramesses.
11 E puseram sobre eles maiorais de tributos, para os afligirem com suas cargas. Porque edificaram a Faraó cidades-armazéns, Pitom e Ramessés.
12 And bi hou myche thei oppressiden hem, bi so myche thei weren multiplied, and encreessiden more.
12 Mas quanto mais os afligiam, tanto mais se multiplicavam, e tanto mais cresciam; de maneira que se enfadavam por causa dos filhos de Israel.
13 And Egipcians hatiden the sones of Israel, and turmentiden, and scorneden hem;
13 E os egípcios faziam servir os filhos de Israel com dureza;
14 and brouyten her lijf to bitternesse bi hard werkis of cley and to tijl stoon, and bi al seruage, bi which thei weren oppressid in the werkis of erthe.
14 Assim que lhes fizeram amargar a vida com dura servidão, em barro e em tijolos, e com todo o trabalho no campo; com todo o seu serviço, em que os obrigavam com dureza.
15 Forsothe the kyng of Egipt seide to the mydwyues of Ebrews, of whiche oon was clepid Sefora, the tother Fua;
15 E o rei do Egito falou às parteiras das hebréias (das quais o nome de uma era Sifrá, e o da outra Puá),
16 and he commaundide to hem, Whanne ye schulen do the office of medewyues to Ebrew wymmen, and the tyme of childberyng schal come, if it is a knaue child, sle ye him; if it is a womman, kepe ye.
16 E disse: Quando ajudardes a dar à luz às hebréias, e as virdes sobre os assentos, se for filho, matai-o; mas se for filha, então viva.
17 Forsothe the medewyues dredden God, and diden not bi the comaundement of the kyng of Egipt, but kepten knaue children.
17 As parteiras, porém, temeram a Deus e não fizeram como o rei do Egito lhes dissera, antes conservavam os meninos com vida.
18 To whiche clepid to hym the kyng seide, What is this thing which ye wolden do, that ye wolden kepe the children?
18 Então o rei do Egito chamou as parteiras e disse-lhes: Por que fizestes isto, deixando os meninos com vida?
19 Whiche answeriden, Ebrew wymmen ben not as the wymmen of Egipt, for thei han kunnyng of the craft of medewijf, and childen bifore that we comen to hem.
19 E as parteiras disseram a Faraó: É que as mulheres hebréias não são como as egípcias; porque são vivas, e já têm dado à luz antes que a parteira venha a elas.
20 Therfor God dide wel to medewyues; and the puple encreesside, and was coumfortid greetli.
20 Portanto Deus fez bem às parteiras. E o povo se aumentou, e se fortaleceu muito.
21 And for the mydewyues dredden God, he bildide `housis to hem.
21 E aconteceu que, como as parteiras temeram a Deus, ele estabeleceu-lhes casas.
22 Therfor Farao comaundide al his puple, and seide, What euer thing of male kynde is borun to Ebrewis, `caste ye into the flood; what euer thing of wymmen kynde, kepe ye.
22 Então ordenou Faraó a todo o seu povo, dizendo: A todos os filhos que nascerem lançareis no rio, mas a todas as filhas guardareis com vida.
