1 And whanne ye weren deed in youre giltis and synnes,
1 Vocês estavam mortos por causa de sua desobediência e de seus muitos pecados,
2 in which ye wandriden sum tyme aftir the cours of this world, aftir the prince of the power of this eir, of the spirit that worchith now in to the sones of vnbileue;
2 nos quais costumavam viver, como o resto do mundo, obedecendo ao comandante dos poderes do mundo invisível. Ele é o espírito que opera no coração dos que se recusam a obedecer.
3 in which also we `alle lyueden sum tyme in the desiris of oure fleisch, doynge the willis of the fleisch and of thouytis, and we weren bi kynde the sones of wraththe, as othere men;
3 Todos nós vivíamos desse modo, seguindo os desejos ardentes e as inclinações de nossa natureza humana. Éramos, por natureza, merecedores da ira, como os demais.
4 but God, that is riche in merci, for his ful myche charite in which he louyde vs,
4 Mas Deus é tão rico em misericórdia e nos amou tanto
5 yhe, whanne we weren deed in synnes, quikenede vs togidere in Crist, bi whos grace ye ben sauyd, and ayen reiside togidere,
5 que, embora estivéssemos mortos por causa de nossos pecados, ele nos deu vida juntamente com Cristo. É pela graça que vocês são salvos!
6 and made togidere to sitte in heuenli thingis in Crist Jhesu;
6 Pois ele nos ressuscitou com Cristo e nos fez sentar com ele nos domínios celestiais, porque agora estamos em Cristo Jesus.
7 that he schulde schewe in the worldis aboue comynge the plenteuouse ritchessis of his grace in goodnesse on vs in Crist Jhesu.
7 Portanto, nas eras futuras, Deus poderá apontar-nos como exemplos da riqueza insuperável de sua graça, revelada na bondade que ele demonstrou por nós em Cristo Jesus.
8 For bi grace ye ben sauyd bi feith, and this not of you; for it is the yifte of God,
8 Vocês são salvos pela graça, por meio da fé. Isso não vem de vocês; é uma dádiva de Deus.
9 not of werkis, that no man haue glorie.
9 Não é uma recompensa pela prática de boas obras, para que ninguém venha a se orgulhar.
10 For we ben the makyng of hym, maad of nouyt in Crist Jhesu, in good werkis, whiche God hath ordeyned, that we go in tho werkis.
10 Pois somos obra-prima de Deus, criados em Cristo Jesus a fim de realizar as boas obras que ele de antemão planejou para nós.
11 For which thing be ye myndeful, that sumtyme ye weren hethene in fleisch, which weren seid prepucie, fro that that is seid circumcisioun maad bi hond in fleisch;
11 Não esqueçam que vocês, gentios, eram chamados de “incircuncidados” pelos judeus que se orgulhavam da circuncisão, embora ela fosse apenas um ritual exterior e humano.
12 and ye weren in that time with out Crist, alienyd fro the lyuyng of Israel, and gestis of testamentis, not hauynge hope of biheest, and with outen God in this world.
12 Naquele tempo, vocês viviam afastados de Cristo. Não tinham os privilégios do povo de Israel e não conheciam as promessas da aliança. Viviam no mundo sem Deus e sem esperança.
13 But now in Crist Jhesu ye that weren sum tyme fer, ben maad nyy in the blood of Crist.
13 Agora, porém, estão em Cristo Jesus. Antigamente, estavam distantes de Deus, mas agora foram trazidos para perto dele por meio do sangue de Cristo.
14 For he is oure pees, that made bothe oon, and vnbyndynge the myddil wal of a wal with out morter, enmytees in his fleisch;
14 Porque Cristo é nossa paz. Ele uniu judeus e gentios em um só povo ao derrubar o muro de inimizade que nos separava.
15 and auoidide the lawe of maundementis bi domes, that he make twei in hym silf in to a newe man,
15 Ele acabou com o sistema da lei, com seus mandamentos e ordenanças, promovendo a paz ao criar para si, desses dois grupos, uma nova humanidade.
16 makynge pees, to recounsele bothe in o bodi to God bi the cros, sleynge the enemytees in hym silf.
16 Assim, ele os reconciliou com Deus em um só corpo por meio de sua morte na cruz, eliminando a inimizade que havia entre eles.
17 And he comynge prechide pees to you that weren fer, and pees to hem that weren niy;
17 Ele trouxe essas boas-novas de paz tanto a vocês que estavam distantes dele como aos que estavam perto.
18 for bi hym we bothe han niy comyng in o spirit to the fadir.
18 Agora, por causa do que Cristo fez, todos temos acesso ao Pai pelo mesmo Espírito.
19 Therfor now ye ben not gestis and straungeris, but ye ben citeseyns of seyntis, and houshold meine of God;
19 Portanto, vocês já não são estranhos e forasteiros, mas concidadãos do povo santo e membros da família de Deus.
20 aboue bildid on the foundement of apostlis and of profetis, vpon that hiyeste corner stoon, Crist Jhesu;
20 Juntos, somos sua casa, edificados sobre os alicerces dos apóstolos e dos profetas. E a pedra angular é o próprio Cristo Jesus.
21 in whom ech bildyng maad waxith in to an hooli temple in the Lord.
21 Nele somos firmemente unidos, constituindo um templo santo para o Senhor.
22 In whom also `be ye bildid togidere in to the habitacle of God, in the Hooli Goost.
22 Por meio dele, vocês também estão sendo edificados como parte dessa habitação, onde Deus vive por seu Espírito.
