1 Whanne thi Lord God hath lad thee in to the lond, in to which thou schalt entre to welde, and hath do awey many folkis bifor thee, Ethei, and Gergesei, and Ammorrey, Canenei, and Pherezei, Euey, and Jebusei; seuene folkis, of myche gretter noumbre than thou art, and strengere than thou;
1 — Quando o Senhor , seu Deus, os levar para a terra que vocês vão possuir, e tiver expulsado muitas nações de diante de vocês: os heteus, os girgaseus, os amorreus, os cananeus, os ferezeus, os heveus e os jebuseus — sete nações mais numerosas e mais poderosas do que vocês;
2 and thi Lord God hath bitake hem to thee, thou schalt smyte hem `til to deeth, thou schalt not make `with hem a boond of pees, nether thou schalt haue merci on hem,
2 e, quando o Senhor , seu Deus, as tiver entregue nas mãos de vocês, para que as ataquem, vocês devem destruí-las totalmente. Não façam aliança com essas nações, nem tenham piedade delas.
3 nether thou schalt felowschipe mariagis with him; thou schalt not yyue thi douyter to the sone `of hym, nether thou schalt take his douytir to thi sone;
3 Não casem com pessoas dessas nações; não deem as suas filhas aos filhos dessa gente, nem tomem as filhas deles para os filhos de vocês,
4 for sche schal disceyue thi sone, that he sue not me, and that he serue more alien goddis; and the strong veniaunce of the Lord schal be wrooth, and schal do awei thee soone.
4 pois elas levariam os filhos de vocês a se desviar de mim, para que servissem outros deuses. Assim, a ira do Senhor se acenderia contra vocês e depressa ele os destruiria.
5 But rather thou schalt do these thingis to hem; destrie ye the auteris `of hem, and breke ye ymagis `of metal, and kitte ye doun wodis, and brenne ye grauun ymagis.
5 Mas o que vocês devem fazer é derrubar os altares dessas nações, quebrar as suas colunas sagradas, cortar os postes da deusa Aserá e queimar as suas imagens de escultura.
6 For thou art an hooli puple to thi Lord God; thi Lord God chees thee, that thou be a special puple to hym, of alle puplis that ben on erthe.
6 — Porque vocês são povo santo para o Senhor , seu Deus. O Senhor , seu Deus, os escolheu, para que, de todos os povos que há sobre a terra, vocês fossem o seu povo próprio.
7 Not for ye ouercamen in noumbre alle folkis, the Lord is ioyned to you, and chees yow, sithen ye ben fewere than alle puplis;
7 O Senhor os amou e os escolheu, não porque vocês eram mais numerosos do que outros povos, pois vocês eram o menor de todos os povos.
8 but for the Lord louede you, and kepte the ooth which he swoor to youre fadris; and he ledde you out in strong hond, and ayen bouyte you fro the hows of seruage, fro `the hows of Farao, kyng of Egipt.
8 Mas porque o Senhor os amava e, para cumprir o juramento que tinha feito aos pais de vocês, o Senhor os tirou com mão poderosa e os resgatou da casa da servidão, do poder de Faraó, rei do Egito.
9 And thou schalt wite, that thi Lord God hym silf is a strong God, and feithful, and kepith couenaunt and mersi to hem that louen hym, and to hem that kepen hise comaundementis, in to a thousynde generaciouns;
9 Portanto, saibam que o Senhor , seu Deus, é Deus; ele é o Deus fiel, que guarda a aliança e a misericórdia até mil gerações aos que o amam e cumprem os seus mandamentos.
10 and yeldith anoon to hem that haten hym, so that he destrie hem, and differr no lengere; restorynge anoon to hem that that thei disseruen.
10 Porém ele retribui diretamente aos que o odeiam, fazendo-os perecer. Ele não demora em castigar aqueles que o odeiam; prontamente lhes retribuirá.
11 Therfor kepe thou the comaundementis, and cerymonyes, and domes, whiche Y comaunde to thee to dai, that thou do.
11 Portanto, guardem os mandamentos, os estatutos e os juízos que hoje lhes mando cumprir.
12 If aftir that thou herist these domes, thou kepist, and doist tho, thi Lord God schal kepe to thee couenaunt, and mersi, which he swoor to thi fadris.
12 — Portanto, se vocês derem ouvidos a estes juízos, e os guardarem e cumprirem, o Senhor , seu Deus, guardará a aliança e a misericórdia prometida sob juramento aos seus pais.
13 And he schal loue thee, and schal multiplie thee, and he schal blesse the fruyt of thi wombe, and the fruyt of thi lond, thi wheete, and vindage, oile, and droues of beestis, and the flockis of thi scheep, on the lond for which he swoor to thi fadris, that he schulde yyue it to thee.
13 Ele os amará, os abençoará e fará com que vocês se multipliquem. Também abençoará os filhos de vocês, o fruto da terra, o cereal, o vinho, o azeite e as crias das vacas e das ovelhas, na terra que prometeu dar a vocês, conforme o juramento que fez aos seus pais.
14 Thou schalt be blessid among alle puplis; noon bareyn of euer eithir kynde schal be at thee, as well in men, as in thi flockis.
14 Vocês serão mais abençoados do que todos os povos. Não haverá no meio de vocês nenhum homem ou mulher que seja estéril, nem entre os seus animais.
15 The Lord schal do awei fro thee all ache, `ether sorewe; and he schal not brynge to thee the worste siknessis of Egipt, whiche thou knewist, but to alle thin enemyes.
15 O Senhor afastará de vocês toda enfermidade; não porá sobre vocês nenhuma das terríveis doenças dos egípcios, que vocês conheceram tão bem; pelo contrário, ele as porá sobre todos os que os odeiam.
16 And thou schalt `deuoure, that is, distrie, alle puplis, whiche thi Lord God schal yyue to thee; thin iye schal not spare hem, nethir thou schalt serue the goddis `of hem, lest thei ben in to the fallyng of thee.
16 Vocês devem destruir todos os povos que o Senhor , seu Deus, entregar nas mãos de vocês. Não tenham piedade deles, nem adorem os seus deuses, pois isso seria uma armadilha para vocês.
17 If thou seist in thin herte, These folkis ben mo than Y, hou may Y do awei hem?
17 — Não fiquem pensando: “Estas nações são mais numerosas do que nós; como poderemos expulsá-las de lá?”
18 `nyle thou drede, but haue thou mynde, what thingis thi Lord God dide to Farao, and alle Egipcians;
18 Não tenham medo delas; lembrem-se do que o Senhor , seu Deus, fez a Faraó e a todo o Egito.
19 `he dide the gretteste veniaunces, whiche thin iyen sien, and miraclis and grete wondris, and the strong hond, and arm `holdun forth, that thi Lord God schulde lede thee out; so he schal do to alle puplis whiche thou dredist.
19 Lembrem-se das grandes provas que vocês viram com os seus próprios olhos, dos sinais, das maravilhas, da mão poderosa e do braço estendido, com que o Senhor , seu Deus, os tirou do Egito; assim o Senhor , seu Deus, fará com todos os povos, dos quais vocês estão com medo.
20 Ferthermore and thi Lord God schal sende venemouse flies in to hem, til he do awei, and destrye alle men, that fledden thee, and thei schulen not mowe be hid.
20 Além disso, o Senhor , seu Deus, mandará vespões para o meio deles, até que pereçam os que ficarem e se esconderem de vocês.
21 Thou schalt not drede hem, for thi Lord is in the myddis of thee, grete God, and ferdful.
21 — Não fiquem apavorados diante deles, porque o Senhor , seu Deus, está no meio de vocês, Deus grande e temível.
22 He hym silf schal waste these naciouns in thi siyt, litil and litil, and bi partis; thou schalt not mow do awey `tho naciouns togidere, lest peraventure beestis of erthe be multiplied ayens thee;
22 O Senhor , seu Deus, expulsará estas nações, pouco a pouco, de diante de vocês. Vocês não poderão destruí-las todas de uma só vez, para que as feras do campo não se multipliquem contra vocês.
23 and thi Lord God schal yyue hem in thi siyt, and he schal sle hem, til thei be doon awey outerly.
23 Mas o Senhor , seu Deus, as entregará nas mãos de vocês e causará grande confusão entre elas, até que sejam destruídas.
24 And he schal bitake the kyngis `of hem in to thin hondis, and thou schalt destrie the names `of hem vndur heuene; noon schal mow ayenstonde thee, til thou al to-breke hem.
24 Entregará também nas mãos de vocês os reis dessas nações, para que vocês apaguem o nome deles da face da terra; ninguém poderá resistir a vocês, até que os destruam.
25 Thou schalt brenne in fier the grauun ymagis `of hem; thou schalt not coueite the siluer and gold, of whiche tho ymagis ben maad, nether thou schalt take of tho ony thing to thee, lest thou offende therfor, for it is abhominacioun of thi Lord God.
25 Queimem as imagens de escultura dos deuses desses povos. Não cobicem a prata e o ouro que estão sobre essas imagens, nem fiquem com isso para vocês, para que não sejam uma armadilha para vocês; pois são abominação ao Senhor , seu Deus.
26 Nether thou schalt brynge ony thing of the idol in to thin hous, lest thou be maad cursid, as also that idol is; thou schalt wlate it as filthe, and thou schalt haue it as defoulyng, and filthis of abhomynacioun, for it is cursid.
26 Não levem nenhuma coisa abominável para casa, para que vocês não sejam amaldiçoados juntamente com ela; pelo contrário, devem, de todo, detestar e abominar essa coisa, pois é amaldiçoada.
