1 And aftir fyue daies, Ananye, prince of preestis, cam doun with summe eldere men, and Terculle, a feir speker, which wenten to the precident ayens Poul.
1 Cinco dias depois, o sumo sacerdote Ananias desceu a Cesaréia com alguns dos líderes dos judeus e um advogado chamado Tértulo, os quais apresentaram ao governador suas acusações contra Paulo.
2 And whanne Poul was somened, Terculle bigan to accuse hym, and seide, Whanne in myche pees we doon bi thee, and many thingis ben amendid bi thi wisdom, euere more and euery where,
2 Quando Paulo foi chamado, Tértulo apresentou sua causa a Félix: "Temos desfrutado de um longo período de paz durante o teu governo, e o teu providente cuidado resultou em reformas nesta nação.
3 thou best Felix, we han resseyued with al doyng of thankingis.
3 Em tudo e em toda parte, excelentíssimo Félix, reconhecemos estes benefícios com profunda gratidão.
4 But lest Y tarie thee lengere, Y preie thee, schortly here vs for thi mekenesse.
4 Todavia, a fim de não tomar-te mais tempo, peço-te o favor de ouvir-nos apenas por um pouco.
5 We han foundun this wickid man stirynge dissencioun to alle Jewis in al the world, and auctour of dissencioun of the secte of Nazarenus; and he also enforside to defoule the temple;
5 "Verificamos que este homem é um perturbador, que promove tumultos entre os judeus pelo mundo todo. Ele é o principal cabeça da seita dos nazarenos
6 whom also we token, and wolden deme, after oure lawe.
6 e tentou até mesmo profanar o templo; então o prendemos e quisemos julgá-lo segundo a nossa lei.
7 But Lisias, the trybune, cam with greet strengthe aboue, and delyuerede hym fro oure hoondis;
7 Mas o comandante Lísias interveio, e com muita força o arrebatou de nossas mãos e ordenou que os seus acusadores se apresentassem.
8 and comaundide hise accuseris to come to thee, of whom thou demynge, maist knowe of alle these thingis, of whiche we accusen hym.
8 Se tu mesmo o interrogares, poderás verificar a verdade a respeito de todas estas acusações que estamos fazendo contra ele".
9 And Jewis putten to, and seiden, that these thingis hadden hem so.
9 Os judeus confirmaram a acusação, garantindo que as afirmações eram verdadeiras.
10 And Poul answeride, whanne the president grauntide hym to seie, Of mony yeeris Y knowe thee, that thou art domesman `to this folk, and Y schal do ynowy for me with good resoun.
10 Quando o governador lhe deu sinal para que falasse, Paulo declarou: "Sei que há muitos anos tens sido juiz nesta nação; por isso, de bom grado faço minha defesa.
11 For thou maist knowe, for to me ben not more than twelue daies, sithen Y cam vp to worschipe in Jerusalem;
11 Facilmente poderás verificar que há menos de doze dias subi a Jerusalém para adorar a Deus.
12 and nether in the temple thei founden me disputinge with ony man, nether makynge concours of puple, nether in synagogis, nether in citee;
12 Meus acusadores não me encontraram discutindo com ninguém no templo, nem incitando uma multidão nas sinagogas ou em qualquer outro lugar na cidade.
13 nether thei moun preue to thee, of the whiche thingis thei now accusen me.
13 Nem tampouco podem provar-te as acusações que agora estão levantando contra mim.
14 But Y knowleche to thee this thing, that aftir the secte which thei seien eresie, so Y serue to God the fadir, `and Y bileue to alle thingis that ben writun in the lawe and profetis; and Y haue hope in God,
14 Confesso-te, porém, que adoro o Deus dos nossos antepassados como seguidor do Caminho, a que chamam seita. Creio em tudo o que concorda com a Lei e no que está escrito nos Profetas,
15 whiche also thei hem silf abiden, the ayenrisyng `to comynge of iust men and wickid.
15 e tenho em Deus a mesma esperança desses homens: de que haverá ressurreição tanto de justos como de injustos.
16 In this thing Y studie with outen hirtyng, to haue concience to God, and to men euermore.
16 Por isso procuro sempre conservar minha consciência limpa diante de Deus e dos homens.
17 But after many yeeris, Y cam to do almes dedis to my folc, and offryngis, and auowis;
17 "Depois de estar ausente por vários anos, vim a Jerusalém para trazer esmolas ao meu povo e apresentar ofertas.
18 in whiche thei founden me purified in the temple, not with company, nether with noise. And thei cauyten me, and thei crieden, and seiden, Take awei oure enemye.
18 Enquanto fazia isso, já cerimonialmente puro, encontraram-me no templo, sem envolver-me em nenhum ajuntamento ou tumulto.
19 And summe Jewis of Asie, whiche it behofte to be now present at thee, and accuse, if thei hadden ony thing ayens me,
19 Mas há alguns judeus da província da Ásia que deveriam estar aqui diante de ti e apresentar acusações, se é que têm algo contra mim.
20 ether these hem silf seie, if thei founden in me ony thing of wickidnesse, sithen Y stonde `in the counsel,
20 Ou os que aqui se acham deveriam declarar que crime encontraram em mim quando fui levado perante o Sinédrio,
21 but oneli of this vois, by which Y criede stondynge among hem, For of the ayenrisyng of deed men Y am demyd this dai of you.
21 a não ser que tenha sido este: quando me apresentei a eles, bradei: Por causa da ressurreição dos mortos estou sendo julgado hoje diante de vocês".
22 Sothely Felix delayede hem, and knewe moost certeynli of the weie, and seide, Whanne Lisias, the tribune, schal come doun, Y schal here you.
22 Então Félix, que tinha bom conhecimento do Caminho, adiou a causa e disse: "Quando chegar o comandante Lísias, decidirei o caso de vocês".
23 And he comaundide to a centurien to kepe hym, and that he hadde reste, nethir to forbede ony man to mynystre of his owne thingis to him.
23 E ordenou ao centurião que mantivesse Paulo sob custódia, mas que lhe desse certa liberdade e permitisse que os seus amigos o servissem.
24 And after summe dayes Felix cam, with Drussille his wijf, that was a Jewesse, and clepide Poul, and herde of him the feith that is in Crist Jhesu.
24 Vários dias depois, Félix veio com Drusila sua mulher, que era judia, mandou chamar Paulo e o ouviu falar sobre a fé em Cristo Jesus.
25 And while he disputide of riytwisnesse, and chastite, and of dom to comynge, Felix was maad tremblinge, and answerde, That perteneth now, go; but in tyme couenable Y schal clepe thee.
25 Quando Paulo se pôs a discorrer acerca da justiça, do domínio próprio e do juízo vindouro, Félix teve medo e disse: "Basta, por enquanto! Pode sair. Quando achar conveniente, mandarei chamá-lo de novo".
26 Also he hopide, that money schulde be youun to hym of Poul; for which thing eft he clepide hym, and spak with hym.
26 Ao mesmo tempo esperava que Paulo lhe oferecesse algum dinheiro, pelo que mandava buscá-lo freqüentemente e conversava com ele.
27 And whanne twei yeeris weren fillid, Felix took a successoure, Porcius Festus; and Felix wolde yyue grace to Jewis, and lefte Poul boundun.
27 Passados dois anos, Félix foi sucedido por Pórcio Festo; todavia, porque desejava manter a simpatia dos judeus, Félix deixou Paulo na prisão.
