1 Blame thou not an eldere man, but biseche as a fadir, yonge men as britheren; elde wymmen as modris,
1 NÃO repreendas asperamente o ancião, mas admoesta-o como a pai; aos moços como a irmãos;
2 yonge wymmen as sistris, in al chastite.
2 As mulheres idosas, como a mães, às moças, como a irmãs, em toda a pureza.
3 Honoure thou widewis, that ben very widewis.
3 Honra as viúvas que verdadeiramente são viúvas.
4 But if ony widewe hath children of sones, lerne sche first to gouerne her hous, and quyte to fadir and modir; for this thing is acceptid bifor God.
4 Mas, se alguma viúva tiver filhos, ou netos, aprendam primeiro a exercer piedade para com a sua própria família, e a recompensar seus pais; porque isto é bom e agradável diante de Deus.
5 And sche that is a widewe verili, and desolate, hope in to God, and be bisy in bisechingis and preieris niyt and dai.
5 Ora, a que é verdadeiramente viúva e desamparada espera em Deus, e persevera de noite e de dia em rogos e orações;
6 For sche that is lyuynge in delicis, is deed.
6 Mas a que vive em deleites, vivendo está morta.
7 And comaunde thou this thing, that thei be withouten repreef.
7 Manda, pois, estas coisas, para que elas sejam irrepreensíveis.
8 For if ony man hath not cure of his owne, and most of hise household men, he hath denyed the feith, and is worse than an vnfeithful man.
8 Mas, se alguém não tem cuidado dos seus, e principalmente dos da sua família, negou a fé, e é pior do que o infiel.
9 A widewe be chosun not lesse than sixti yeer, that was wijf of oon hosebonde,
9 Nunca seja inscrita viúva com menos de sessenta anos, e só a que tenha sido mulher de um só marido;
10 and hath witnessing in good werkis, if sche nurschede children, if sche resseyuede pore men to herbore, if sche hath waischun the feet of hooli men, if sche mynystride to men that suffriden tribulacioun, if sche folewide al good werk.
10 Tendo testemunho de boas obras: Se criou os filhos, se exercitou hospitalidade, se lavou os pés aos santos, se socorreu os aflitos, se praticou toda a boa obra.
11 But eschewe thou yongere widewis; for whanne thei han do letcherie, thei wolen be weddid in Crist,
11 Mas não admitas as viúvas mais novas, porque, quando se tornam levianas contra Cristo, querem casar-se;
12 hauynge dampnacioun, for thei han maad voide the firste feith.
12 Tendo já a sua condenação por haverem aniquilado a primeira fé.
13 Also thei idil lernen to go aboute housis, not oneli ydel, but ful of wordis and curiouse, spekynge thingis that bihoueth not.
13 E, além disto, aprendem também a andar ociosas de casa em casa; e não só ociosas, mas também paroleiras e curiosas, falando o que não convém.
14 Therfor Y wole, that yongere widewis be weddid, and bringe forth children, and ben hosewyues, to yyue noon occasioun to the aduersarie, bi cause of cursid thing.
14 Quero, pois, que as que são moças se casem, gerem filhos, governem a casa, e não dêem ocasião ao adversário de maldizer;
15 For now summe ben turned abak aftir Sathanas.
15 Porque já algumas se desviaram, indo após Satanás.
16 If ony feithful man hath widewis, mynystre he to hem, that the chirche be not greuyd, that it suffice to hem that ben very widewis.
16 Se algum crente ou alguma crente tem viúvas, socorra-as, e não se sobrecarregue a igreja, para que se possam sustentar as que deveras são viúvas.
17 The prestis that ben wel gouernoures, be thei had worthi to double onour; moost thei that trauelen in word and teching.
17 Os presbíteros que governam bem sejam estimados por dignos de duplicada honra, principalmente os que trabalham na palavra e na doutrina;
18 For scripture seith, Thou schalt not bridil the mouth of the oxe threischinge, and, A werk man is worthi his hire.
18 Porque diz a Escritura: Não ligarás a boca ao boi que debulha. E: Digno é o obreiro do seu salário.
19 Nyle thou resseyue accusyng ayens a preest, but vndur tweyne or thre witnessis.
19 Não aceites acusação contra o presbítero, senão com duas ou três testemunhas.
20 But reproue thou men that synnen bifor alle men, that also othere haue drede.
20 Aos que pecarem, repreende-os na presença de todos, para que também os outros tenham temor.
21 Y preie bifor God, and Jhesu Crist, and hise chosun aungelis, that thou kepe these thingis with oute preiudice, and do no thing in bowynge `in to the othere side.
21 Conjuro-te diante de Deus, e do Senhor Jesus Cristo, e dos anjos eleitos, que sem prevenção guardes estas coisas, nada fazendo por parcialidade.
22 Put thou hondis to no man, nether anoon comyne thou with othere mennus synnes. Kepe thi silf chast.
22 A ninguém imponhas precipitadamente as mãos, nem participes dos pecados alheios; conserva-te a ti mesmo puro.
23 Nyle thou yit drinke watir, but vse a litil wyn, for thi stomac, and `for thin ofte fallynge infirmytees.
23 Não bebas mais água só, mas usa de um pouco de vinho, por causa do teu estômago e das tuas freqüentes enfermidades.
24 Sum mennus synnes ben opyn, bifor goynge to dom; but of summen thei comen aftir.
24 Os pecados de alguns homens são manifestos, precedendo o juízo; e em alguns manifestam-se depois.
25 And also goode dedis ben opyn, and tho that han hem in othere maner, moun not be hid.
25 Assim mesmo também as boas obras são manifestas, e as que são de outra maneira não podem ocultar-se.
