1 Ech man that bileueth that Jhesus is Crist, is borun of God; and ech man that loueth hym that gendride, loueth hym that is borun of hym.
1 Todos aqueles que creem que Jesus é o Messias são filhos de Deus. E quem ama um pai ama também os filhos desse pai.
2 In this thing we knowen, that we louen the children of God, whanne we louen God, and don his maundementis.
2 Nós sabemos que amamos os filhos de Deus quando amamos a Deus e obedecemos aos seus mandamentos.
3 For this is the charite of God, that we kepe hise maundementis; and his maundementis ben not heuy.
3 Pois amar a Deus é obedecer aos seus mandamentos. E os seus mandamentos não são difíceis de obedecer
4 For al thing that is borun of God, ouercometh the world; and this is the victorie that ouercometh the world, oure feith.
4 porque todo filho de Deus pode vencer o mundo. Assim, com a nossa fé conseguimos a vitória sobre o mundo.
5 And who is he that ouercometh the world, but he that bileueth that Jhesus is the sone of God?
5 Quem pode vencer o mundo? Somente aquele que crê que Jesus é o Filho de Deus.
6 This is Jhesus Crist, that cam bi watir and blood; not in water oonli, but in watir and blood. And the spirit is he that witnessith, that Crist is treuthe.
6 Jesus Cristo é aquele que veio com a água do seu batismo e com o sangue da sua morte. Ele veio com a água e com o sangue e não somente com a água. E o próprio Espírito Santo é testemunha de que isso é verdade porque o Espírito é a verdade.
7 For thre ben, that yyuen witnessing in heuene, the Fadir, the Sone, and the Hooli Goost; and these thre ben oon.
7 Há três testemunhas:
8 `And thre ben, that yyuen witnessing in erthe, the spirit, water, and blood; and these thre ben oon.
8 o Espírito, a água e o sangue; e esses três estão de pleno acordo.
9 If we resseyuen the witnessing of men, the witnessing of God is more; for this is the witnessing of God, that is more, for he witnesside of his sone.
9 Nós aceitamos o testemunho dos seres humanos, mas o testemunho de Deus tem mais valor. E esse é o testemunho que Deus deu a respeito do seu Filho.
10 He that bileueth in the sone of God, hath the witnessing of God in hym. He that bileueth not to the sone, makith hym a liere; for he bileueth not in the witnessing, that God witnesside of his sone.
10 Aquele que crê no Filho de Deus tem esse testemunho no seu próprio coração. Mas quem não crê em Deus faz de Deus um mentiroso, porque não crê no testemunho que Deus deu a respeito do seu Filho.
11 And this is the witnessyng, for God yaf to you euerlastinge lijf, and this lijf is in his sone.
11 E este é o testemunho: Deus nos deu a vida eterna, e essa vida é nossa por meio do seu Filho.
12 He that hath the sone of God, hath also lijf; he that hath not the sone of God, hath not lijf.
12 Quem tem o Filho tem a vida; quem não tem o Filho de Deus não tem a vida.
13 I write to you these thingis, that ye wite, that ye han euerlastynge lijf, which bileuen in the name of Goddis sone.
13 Eu escrevo essas coisas a vocês que creem no Filho de Deus, para que vocês saibam que têm a vida eterna.
14 And this is the trist which we han to God, that what euer thing we axen aftir his wille, he schal here vs.
14 Quando estamos na presença de Deus, temos coragem por causa do seguinte: se pedimos alguma coisa de acordo com a sua vontade, temos a certeza de que ele nos ouve.
15 And we witen, that he herith vs, what euer thing we axen; we witen, that we han the axyngis, which we axen of hym.
15 Assim sabemos que ele nos ouve quando lhe pedimos alguma coisa. E, como sabemos que isso é verdade, sabemos também que ele nos dá o que lhe pedimos.
16 He that woot that his brother synneth a synne not to deth, axe he, and lijf schal be youun to hym that synneth not to deth. Ther is a synne to deth; `not for it Y seie, that ony man preie.
16 Se alguém vê o seu irmão cometer algum pecado que não traz a morte, deve orar a Deus, e ele dará a vida a essa pessoa. Isso, no caso de pecados que não trazem a morte. Mas há pecado que traz a morte, e eu não digo que vocês orem a respeito desse pecado.
17 Ech wickidnesse is synne, and ther is synne to deth.
17 Toda maldade é pecado; porém há pecados que não trazem a morte.
18 We witen, that ech man that is borun of God, synneth not; but the generacioun of God kepith hym, and the wickid touchith hym not.
18 Sabemos que os filhos de Deus não continuam pecando, porque o Filho de Deus os guarda, e o Maligno não pode tocar neles.
19 We witen, that we ben of God, and al the world is set in yuel.
19 Sabemos que somos de Deus e que o mundo todo está debaixo do poder do Maligno.
20 And we witen, that the sone of God cam in fleisch, and yaf to vs wit, that we know veri God, and be in the veri sone of hym.
20 Sabemos também que o Filho de Deus já veio e nos deu entendimento para conhecermos o Deus verdadeiro. A nossa vida está unida com o Deus verdadeiro, unida com o seu Filho, Jesus Cristo. Este é o Deus verdadeiro, e esta é a vida eterna.
21 This is veri God, and euerlastynge lijf. My litle sones, kepe ye you fro maumetis.
21 Meus filhinhos , cuidado com os falsos deuses!
