1 Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus, by the will of God, for proclaiming the promise of the Life which is in Christ Jesus:
1 Paulo, apóstolo de Cristo Jesus pela vontade de Deus, conforme a promessa da vida em Cristo Jesus,
2 To Timothy my dearly-loved child. May grace, mercy and peace be granted to you from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
2 ao amado filho Timóteo. Que a graça, a misericórdia e a paz, da parte de Deus Pai e de Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor, estejam com você.
3 I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience –as my forefathers did– that night and day I unceasingly remember you in my prayers,
3 Dou graças a Deus, a quem, desde os meus antepassados, sirvo com a consciência limpa, porque, sem cessar, lembro de você nas minhas orações, noite e dia.
4 being always mindful of your tears, and longing to see you that I may be filled with joy.
4 Lembro das suas lágrimas e estou ansioso por ver você, para que eu transborde de alegria.
5 For I recall the sincere faith which is in your heart–a faith which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and then in your mother Eunice, and, I am fully convinced, now dwells in you also.
5 Lembro da sua fé sem fingimento, a mesma que, primeiramente, habitou em sua avó Loide e em sua mãe Eunice, e estou certo de que habita também em você.
6 For this reason let me remind you to rekindle God's gift which is yours through the laying on of my hands.
6 Por esta razão, venho lembrar-lhe que reavive o dom de Deus que está em você pela imposição das minhas mãos.
7 For the Spirit which God has given us is not a spirit of cowardice, but one of power and of love and of sound judgement.
7 Porque Deus não nos deu espírito de covardia, mas de poder, de amor e de moderação.
8 Do not be ashamed then to bear witness for our Lord and for me His prisoner; but rather share suffering with me in the service of the Good News, strengthened by the power of God.
8 Portanto, não se envergonhe do testemunho de nosso Senhor, nem do seu prisioneiro, que sou eu. Pelo contrário, participe comigo dos sofrimentos a favor do evangelho, segundo o poder de Deus,
9 For He saved us and called us with a holy call, not in accordance with our desserts, but in accordance with His own purpose and the free grace which He bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before the commencement of the Ages,
9 que nos salvou e nos chamou com santa vocação, não segundo as nossas obras, mas conforme a sua própria determinação e graça que nos foi dada em Cristo Jesus, antes dos tempos eternos,
10 but which has now been plainly revealed through the Appearing of our Saviour, Christ Jesus. He has put an end to death and has brought Life and Immortality to light through the Good News,
10 e manifestada agora pelo aparecimento de nosso Salvador Cristo Jesus. Ele não só destruiu a morte, como trouxe à luz a vida e a imortalidade, mediante o evangelho.
11 of which I have been appointed a preacher, Apostle and teacher, to the Gentiles.
11 Para este evangelho eu fui designado pregador, apóstolo e mestre
12 That indeed is the reason why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know in whom my trust reposes, and I am confident that He has it in His power to keep what I have entrusted to Him safe until that day.
12 e, por isso, estou sofrendo estas coisas. Mas não me envergonho, porque sei em quem tenho crido e estou certo de que ele é poderoso para guardar aquilo que me foi confiado até aquele Dia.
13 Provide yourself with an outline of the sound teaching which you have heard from my lips, and be true to the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.
13 Mantenha o padrão das sãs palavras que de mim você ouviu com fé e com o amor que há em Cristo Jesus.
14 That precious treasure which is in your charge, guard through the Holy Spirit who has His home in our hearts.
14 Por meio do Espírito Santo, que habita em nós, guarde o bom tesouro que lhe foi confiado.
15 Of this you are aware, that all the Christians in Roman Asia have deserted me: and among them Phygelus and Hermogenes.
15 Você já deve estar ciente de que todos os da província da Ásia me abandonaram. Entre eles estão Fígelo e Hermógenes.
16 May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus; for many a time he cheered me and he was not ashamed of my chain.
16 Que o Senhor conceda misericórdia à casa de Onesíforo, porque, muitas vezes, me deu ânimo e nunca se envergonhou das minhas algemas.
17 Nay, when he was here in Rome, he took great pains to inquire where I was living, and at last he found me.
17 Pelo contrário, quando chegou a Roma, me procurou com persistência até me encontrar.
18 (The Lord grant that he may obtain mercy at His hands on that day!) And you yourself well know all the services which he rendered me in Ephesus.
18 O Senhor lhe conceda que, naquele Dia, ache misericórdia da parte do Senhor. Você sabe, melhor do que eu, quantos serviços ele me prestou em Éfeso.
