1 Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus, by the will of God, for proclaiming the promise of the Life which is in Christ Jesus:
1 Paulo, apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, pela vontade de Deus, segundo a promessa da vida que está em Cristo Jesus,
2 To Timothy my dearly-loved child. May grace, mercy and peace be granted to you from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
2 a Timóteo, meu amado filho: Graça, misericórdia e paz, da parte de Deus o Pai, e da de Cristo Jesus nosso Senhor.
3 I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience –as my forefathers did– that night and day I unceasingly remember you in my prayers,
3 Dou graças a Deus, a quem sirvo desde os meus antepassados com uma consciência pura, porque sem cessar faço menção de ti nas minhas orações, noite e dia;
4 being always mindful of your tears, and longing to see you that I may be filled with joy.
4 desejando muito ver-te, lembrando-me das tuas lágrimas, para me encher de alegria;
5 For I recall the sincere faith which is in your heart–a faith which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and then in your mother Eunice, and, I am fully convinced, now dwells in you also.
5 trazendo à memória a fé não fingida que há em ti, a qual habitou primeiro em tua avó Loide e em tua mãe Eunice, e estou convencido de que também habita em ti.
6 For this reason let me remind you to rekindle God's gift which is yours through the laying on of my hands.
6 Por este motivo, te lembro que despertes o dom de Deus, que está em ti pela imposição das minhas mãos.
7 For the Spirit which God has given us is not a spirit of cowardice, but one of power and of love and of sound judgement.
7 Deus não nos deu o espírito de medo, mas de poder, e de amor, e de uma mente sã.
8 Do not be ashamed then to bear witness for our Lord and for me His prisoner; but rather share suffering with me in the service of the Good News, strengthened by the power of God.
8 Portanto, não te envergonhes do testemunho de nosso Senhor, nem de mim, que sou prisioneiro seu; antes, participa das aflições do evangelho, segundo o poder de Deus;
9 For He saved us and called us with a holy call, not in accordance with our desserts, but in accordance with His own purpose and the free grace which He bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before the commencement of the Ages,
9 que nos salvou e nos chamou com uma santa vocação; não segundo as nossas obras, mas segundo o seu próprio propósito e graça que nos foi dada em Cristo Jesus, antes do começo do mundo,
10 but which has now been plainly revealed through the Appearing of our Saviour, Christ Jesus. He has put an end to death and has brought Life and Immortality to light through the Good News,
10 e que agora se faz manifesto, pela aparição de nosso Salvador Jesus Cristo, o qual aboliu a morte e trouxe a vida e a imortalidade à luz por meio do evangelho,
11 of which I have been appointed a preacher, Apostle and teacher, to the Gentiles.
11 para o que fui nomeado pregador, e apóstolo, e um mestre dos gentios;
12 That indeed is the reason why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know in whom my trust reposes, and I am confident that He has it in His power to keep what I have entrusted to Him safe until that day.
12 por cuja causa sofro também estas coisas, mas não me envergonho, porque eu sei em quem tenho crido e estou convencido de que ele é poderoso para guardar o que tenho confiado nele até aquele dia.
13 Provide yourself with an outline of the sound teaching which you have heard from my lips, and be true to the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.
13 Conserva o modelo das sãs palavras que tens ouvido de mim, na fé e no amor que há em Cristo Jesus.
14 That precious treasure which is in your charge, guard through the Holy Spirit who has His home in our hearts.
14 Guarda aquilo que a ti foi confiado pelo Espírito Santo que habita em nós.
15 Of this you are aware, that all the Christians in Roman Asia have deserted me: and among them Phygelus and Hermogenes.
15 Bem sabes isto, que todos os que estão na Ásia se apartaram de mim; entre os quais estão Figelo e Hermógenes.
16 May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus; for many a time he cheered me and he was not ashamed of my chain.
16 O Senhor conceda misericórdia à casa de Onesíforo, porque muitas vezes me revigorou e não se envergonhou da minha cadeia;
17 Nay, when he was here in Rome, he took great pains to inquire where I was living, and at last he found me.
17 mas quando esteve em Roma, me procurou diligentemente e me achou.
18 (The Lord grant that he may obtain mercy at His hands on that day!) And you yourself well know all the services which he rendered me in Ephesus.
18 O Senhor lhe conceda que ache misericórdia diante do Senhor naquele dia. E, quantas coisas ele ministrou a mim em Éfeso, tu sabes muito bem.
