1 Married women, in the same way, be submissive to your husbands, so that even if some of them disbelieve the Message, they may, apart from the Message, be won over by the daily life of their wives, after watching your daily life–
1 Igualmente vocês, esposas, estejam sujeitas, cada uma a seu próprio marido, para que, se ele ainda não obedece à palavra, seja ganho sem palavra alguma, por meio da conduta de sua esposa,
2 so full of reverence, and so blameless!
2 ao observar o comportamento honesto e cheio de temor que vocês têm.
3 Your adornment ought not to be a merely outward thing–one of plaiting the hair, putting on jewelry, or wearing beautiful dresses.
3 Que a beleza de vocês não seja exterior, como tranças nos cabelos, joias de ouro e vestidos finos,
4 Instead of that, it should be a new nature within–the imperishable ornament of a gentle and peaceful spirit, which is indeed precious in the sight of God.
4 mas que ela esteja no ser interior, uma beleza permanente de um espírito manso e tranquilo, que é de grande valor diante de Deus.
5 For in ancient times also this was the way the holy women who set their hopes upon God used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their husbands.
5 Pois foi assim também que, no passado, costumavam se enfeitar as santas mulheres que esperavam em Deus, estando cada qual sujeita a seu próprio marido.
6 Thus, for instance, Sarah obeyed Abraham, acknowledging his authority over her. And you have become Sarah's children if you do what is right and permit nothing whatever to terrify you.
6 Foi o que fez Sara, que obedeceu a Abraão, chamando-o de “senhor”, da qual vocês se tornaram filhas, praticando o bem e não temendo perturbação alguma.
7 Married men, in the same way, live with your wives with a clear recognition of the fact that they are weaker than you. Yet, since you are heirs with them of God's free gift of Life, treat them with honour; so that your prayers may not be hindered.
7 Maridos, vocês, igualmente, vivam a vida comum do lar com discernimento, dando honra à esposa, por ser a parte mais frágil e por ser coerdeira da mesma graça da vida. Agindo assim, as orações de vocês não serão interrompidas.
8 In conclusion, all of you should be of one mind, quick to sympathize, kind to the brethren, tenderhearted, lowly-minded,
8 Finalmente, tenham todos o mesmo modo de pensar, sejam compassivos, fraternalmente amigos, misericordiosos, humildes.
9 not requiting evil with evil nor abuse with abuse, but, on the contrary, giving a blessing in return, because a blessing is what you have been called by God to inherit.
9 Não paguem mal com mal, nem ofensa com ofensa. Pelo contrário, respondam com palavras de bênção, pois para isto mesmo vocês foram chamados, a fim de receberem bênção por herança.
10 For »He who wishes to be well-satisfied with life and see happy days– let him restrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from deceitful words;
10 Pois: “Aquele que quer amar a vida e ter dias felizes refreie a língua do mal e evite que os seus lábios falem palavras enganosas;
11 Let him turn from evil, and do good; Let him inquire for peace and go in pursuit of it.
11 afaste-se do mal e pratique o bem, busque a paz e empenhe-se por alcançá-la.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their supplication; but the face of the Lord is set against evil-doers.«
12 Porque os olhos do Senhor repousam sobre os justos, e os seus ouvidos estão abertos às suas súplicas, mas o rosto do Senhor está contra aqueles que praticam o mal.”
13 And who will be able to harm you, if you show yourselves zealous for that which is good?
13 Ora, quem há de maltratá-los, se vocês forem zelosos na prática do bem?
14 But even if you suffer for righteousness' sake, you are to be envied. So do not be alarmed by their threats, nor troubled;
14 Mas, mesmo que venham a sofrer por causa da justiça, vocês são bem-aventurados. Não tenham medo das ameaças, nem fiquem angustiados;
15 but in your hearts consecrate Christ as Lord, being always ready to make your defence to any one who asks from you a reason for the hope which you cherish.
15 pelo contrário, santifiquem a Cristo, como Senhor, no seu coração, estando sempre preparados para responder a todo aquele que pedir razão da esperança que vocês têm.
16 Yet argue modestly and cautiously, keeping your consciences free from guilt, so that, when you are spoken against, those who slander your good Christian lives may be put to shame.
16 Mas façam isso com mansidão e temor, com boa consciência, de modo que, naquilo em que falam mal de vocês, fiquem envergonhados esses que difamam a boa conduta que vocês têm em Cristo.
17 For it is better that you should suffer for doing right, if such be God's will, than for doing evil;
17 Porque, se for da vontade de Deus, é melhor que vocês sofram por praticarem o bem do que praticando o mal.
18 because Christ also once for all died for sins, the innocent One for the guilty many, in order to bring us to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit,
18 Pois também Cristo padeceu, uma única vez, pelos pecados, o justo pelos injustos, para conduzir vocês a Deus; morto, sim, na carne, mas vivificado no espírito,
19 in which He also went and proclaimed His Message to the spirits that were in prison,
19 no qual também foi e pregou aos espíritos em prisão,
20 who in ancient times had been disobedient, while God's longsuffering was patiently waiting in the days of Noah during the building of the Ark, in which a few persons –eight in number– were brought safely through the water.
20 os quais, noutro tempo, foram desobedientes, quando Deus aguardava com paciência nos dias de Noé, enquanto se preparava a arca, na qual poucas pessoas, apenas oito, foram salvas através da água.
21 And, corresponding to that figure, the water of baptism now saves you –not the washing off of material defilement, but the craving of a good conscience after God– through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
21 O batismo, que corresponde a isso, agora também salva vocês, não sendo a remoção das impurezas do corpo, mas o apelo por uma boa consciência para com Deus, por meio da ressurreição de Jesus Cristo,
22 who is at God's right hand, having gone into Heaven, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
22 que, depois de ir para o céu, está à direita de Deus, ficando-lhe subordinados anjos, potestades e poderes.
