1 Married women, in the same way, be submissive to your husbands, so that even if some of them disbelieve the Message, they may, apart from the Message, be won over by the daily life of their wives, after watching your daily life–
1 Semelhantemente, vós, mulheres, sede sujeitas aos vossos próprios maridos; para que também, se alguns não obedecem à palavra, pelo porte de suas mulheres sejam ganhos sem palavra;
2 so full of reverence, and so blameless!
2 Considerando a vossa vida casta, em temor.
3 Your adornment ought not to be a merely outward thing–one of plaiting the hair, putting on jewelry, or wearing beautiful dresses.
3 O enfeite delas não seja o exterior, no frisado dos cabelos, no uso de jóias de ouro, na compostura dos vestidos;
4 Instead of that, it should be a new nature within–the imperishable ornament of a gentle and peaceful spirit, which is indeed precious in the sight of God.
4 Mas o homem encoberto no coração; no incorruptível traje de um espírito manso e quieto, que é precioso diante de Deus.
5 For in ancient times also this was the way the holy women who set their hopes upon God used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their husbands.
5 Porque assim se adornavam também antigamente as santas mulheres que esperavam em Deus, e estavam sujeitas aos seus próprios maridos;
6 Thus, for instance, Sarah obeyed Abraham, acknowledging his authority over her. And you have become Sarah's children if you do what is right and permit nothing whatever to terrify you.
6 Como Sara obedecia a Abraão, chamando-lhe senhor; da qual vós sois filhas, fazendo o bem, e não temendo nenhum espanto.
7 Married men, in the same way, live with your wives with a clear recognition of the fact that they are weaker than you. Yet, since you are heirs with them of God's free gift of Life, treat them with honour; so that your prayers may not be hindered.
7 Igualmente vós, maridos, coabitai com elas com entendimento, dando honra à mulher, como vaso mais fraco; como sendo vós os seus co-herdeiros da graça da vida; para que não sejam impedidas as vossas orações.
8 In conclusion, all of you should be of one mind, quick to sympathize, kind to the brethren, tenderhearted, lowly-minded,
8 E, finalmente, sede todos de um mesmo sentimento, compassivos, amando os irmãos, entranhavelmente misericordiosos e afáveis.
9 not requiting evil with evil nor abuse with abuse, but, on the contrary, giving a blessing in return, because a blessing is what you have been called by God to inherit.
9 Não tornando mal por mal, ou injúria por injúria; antes, pelo contrário, bendizendo; sabendo que para isto fostes chamados, para que por herança alcanceis a bênção.
10 For »He who wishes to be well-satisfied with life and see happy days– let him restrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from deceitful words;
10 Porque Quem quer amar a vida, E ver os dias bons, Refreie a sua língua do mal, E os seus lábios não falem engano.
11 Let him turn from evil, and do good; Let him inquire for peace and go in pursuit of it.
11 Aparte-se do mal, e faça o bem; Busque a paz, e siga-a.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their supplication; but the face of the Lord is set against evil-doers.«
12 Porque os olhos do Senhor estão sobre os justos, E os seus ouvidos atentos às suas orações; Mas o rosto do Senhor é contra os que fazem o mal.
13 And who will be able to harm you, if you show yourselves zealous for that which is good?
13 E qual é aquele que vos fará mal, se fordes seguidores do bem?
14 But even if you suffer for righteousness' sake, you are to be envied. So do not be alarmed by their threats, nor troubled;
14 Mas também, se padecerdes por amor da justiça, sois bemaventurados. E não temais com medo deles, nem vos turbeis;
15 but in your hearts consecrate Christ as Lord, being always ready to make your defence to any one who asks from you a reason for the hope which you cherish.
15 Antes, santificai ao Senhor Deus em vossos corações; e estai sempre preparados para responder com mansidão e temor a qualquer que vos pedir a razão da esperança que há em vós,
16 Yet argue modestly and cautiously, keeping your consciences free from guilt, so that, when you are spoken against, those who slander your good Christian lives may be put to shame.
16 Tendo uma boa consciência, para que, naquilo em que falam mal de vós, como de malfeitores, fiquem confundidos os que blasfemam do vosso bom porte em Cristo.
17 For it is better that you should suffer for doing right, if such be God's will, than for doing evil;
17 Porque melhor é que padeçais fazendo bem (se a vontade de Deus assim o quer), do que fazendo mal.
18 because Christ also once for all died for sins, the innocent One for the guilty many, in order to bring us to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit,
18 Porque também Cristo padeceu uma vez pelos pecados, o justo pelos injustos, para levar-nos a Deus; mortificado, na verdade, na carne, mas vivificado pelo Espírito;
19 in which He also went and proclaimed His Message to the spirits that were in prison,
19 No qual também foi, e pregou aos espíritos em prisão;
20 who in ancient times had been disobedient, while God's longsuffering was patiently waiting in the days of Noah during the building of the Ark, in which a few persons –eight in number– were brought safely through the water.
20 Os quais noutro tempo foram rebeldes, quando a longanimidade de Deus esperava nos dias de Noé, enquanto se preparava a arca; na qual poucas (isto é, oito) almas se salvaram pela água;
21 And, corresponding to that figure, the water of baptism now saves you –not the washing off of material defilement, but the craving of a good conscience after God– through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
21 Que também, como uma verdadeira figura, agora vos salva, o batismo, não do despojamento da imundícia da carne, mas da indagação de uma boa consciência para com Deus, pela ressurreição de Jesus Cristo;
22 who is at God's right hand, having gone into Heaven, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
22 O qual está à destra de Deus, tendo subido ao céu, havendo-se-lhe sujeitado os anjos, e as autoridades, e as potências.
