1 Moreover, brethren, we declare to you the grace of God, bestowed on the churches in Macedonia,
1 Irmãos, queremos que vocês saibam o que a graça de Deus tem feito nas igrejas da província da Macedônia.
2 That in a great trial of affliction, their overflowing joy and their deep poverty abounded to the riches of their liberality:
2 Os irmãos dali têm sido muito provados pelas aflições por que têm passado. Mas a alegria deles foi tanta, que, embora sendo muito pobres, eles deram ofertas com grande generosidade.
3 That to their power, I testify, and beyond their power, they were willing of themselves,
3 Afirmo a vocês que eles fizeram tudo o que podiam e mais ainda. E, com toda a boa vontade,
4 Praying us with much intreaty, to receive the gift and take a part in ministring it to the saints.
4 pediram com insistência que os deixássemos participar da ajuda para o povo de Deus da Judeia e eles insistiram nisso.
5 And this they did, not as we hoped; but first gave themselves to the Lord, and to us by the will of God:
5 E fizeram muito mais do que esperávamos. Primeiro, eles deram a si mesmos ao Senhor e depois, pela vontade de Deus, eles se deram a nós também.
6 So that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also compleat this gift among you.
6 De modo que pedimos a Tito, que começou a recolher essas ofertas, que continuasse e ajudasse vocês a completarem esse serviço especial de amor.
7 Therefore as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.
7 Vocês mostram que, em tudo, são mais ricos do que os outros: na fé, na palavra, no conhecimento, na vontade de ajudar os outros e no nosso amor por vocês. E nesse novo serviço de amor queremos também que façam mais do que os outros.
8 I speak not by way of command, but that by the diligence of others, I may prove the sincerity of your love.
8 Não estou querendo mandar em vocês. O que eu estou querendo é que conheçam o entusiasmo com que as igrejas da Macedônia deram ofertas, para que assim vocês vejam se o amor de vocês é verdadeiro ou não.
9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
9 Porque vocês já conhecem o grande amor do nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo: ele era rico, mas, por amor a vocês, ele se tornou pobre a fim de que vocês se tornassem ricos por meio da pobreza dele.
10 And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun a year ago, not only to do, but also to do it willingly.
10 Minha opinião sobre o assunto é esta: é melhor para vocês que terminem agora o que começaram no ano passado. Vocês foram os primeiros não somente a ajudar, mas também a querer ajudar.
11 Now therefore compleat the work, that as there was a ready will, so there may be also a performance, in proportion to what ye have.
11 Portanto, continuem e completem o trabalho. Façam isso com o mesmo entusiasmo que tiveram no princípio, dando de acordo com o que têm.
12 For if there be first a ready mind, a man is accepted, according to what he hath, not according to what he hath not.
12 Porque, se alguém quer dar, Deus aceita a oferta conforme o que a pessoa tem. Deus não pede o que a pessoa não tem.
13 For I do not mean, that others should be eased, and you burthened; But by an equality,
13 — ausente —
14 let your abundance be at this time a supply to their want; that their abundance also may be a supply to your want, that there may be an equality,
14 — ausente —
15 As it is written, He that had gathered the most, had nothing over; and he that had gathered the least, did not lack.
15 Como dizem as Escrituras Sagradas : “Ao que muito pegou, nada sobrou; ao que pouco pegou, nada faltou.”
16 But thanks be to God, who put the same diligent care for you in the heart of Titus.
16 Agradecemos muito a Deus porque pôs no coração de Tito o mesmo desejo que nós temos de ajudar vocês.
17 For he accepted indeed the exhortation, but being more forward, he went to you of his own accord.
17 Ele aceitou o nosso pedido e, como quer ajudá-los, resolveu ir com toda a boa vontade encontrar-se com vocês.
18 And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise in the gospel is through all the churches: (And not only so,
18 Junto com ele estamos enviando o irmão que é muito respeitado em todas as igrejas pelo seu trabalho de anunciar o evangelho .
19 but he was also appointed by the churches to be a fellow-traveller with us, with this gift, which is administred by us, to the glory of the Lord himself,
19 Além disso esse irmão foi escolhido e indicado pelas igrejas para viajar conosco a fim de nos ajudar nesse serviço de amor que fazemos para a glória do Senhor e também para mostrar que, de fato, queremos ajudar.
20 and for the declaration of our ready mind) Avoiding this, lest any one should blame us in this abundance, which is administred by us.
20 Queremos evitar assim que outros nos critiquem por causa da maneira pela qual estamos recolhendo essa grande oferta.
21 For we provide things honest, not only before the Lord, but also before men.
21 A nossa vontade é fazer aquilo que tanto o Senhor como as pessoas acham certo.
22 And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have often proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, through his great confidence in you.
22 Com eles, estamos enviando outro irmão nosso. Muitas vezes o pusemos à prova e assim sabemos que ele está sempre pronto para ajudar. E, agora que ele tem tanta confiança em vocês, está com muito mais vontade ainda de auxiliar.
23 If any inquire concerning Titus, he is my partner, and fellow-labourer with respect to you; or concerning our brethren, they are the messengers of the churches, the glory of Christ.
23 A respeito de Tito afirmo que ele é meu companheiro de trabalho na ajuda que dou a vocês. E, quanto aos outros irmãos que vão com ele, são representantes das igrejas e trazem glória para Cristo.
24 Shew therefore to them before the churches the proof of your love and of our boasting on your behalf.
24 Por isso, para que as outras igrejas fiquem sabendo, mostrem a esses irmãos que vocês os amam e que nós temos razão de elogiar vocês.
