1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem; for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.
1 E Roboão foi até Siquém; pois todo Israel veio para fazê-lo rei.
2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it, (for he was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of King Solomon,) that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
2 E Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, que estava então no Egito para onde fugira da presença do rei Salomão, ouvindo isto, voltou do Egito.
3 And they sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
3 E eles mandaram chamá-lo. Assim Jeroboão e todo o Israel vieram falar com Roboão, dizendo:
4 Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make the grievous service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.
4 O teu pai fez o nosso jugo doloroso; agora, portanto, alivia tu, de alguma forma, a dolorosa servidão do teu pai, e o jugo pesado que ele pôs sobre nós, e serviremos a ti.
5 And he said to them, Come again to me after three days. And the people departed.
5 E ele lhes disse: Voltai a mim depois de três dias. E o povo partiu.
6 And King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel do you{+} give me to return answer to this people?
6 E o rei Roboão tomou conselho com os anciãos que haviam se colocado de pé diante de Salomão, o seu pai, enquanto ele ainda vivia, dizendo: Que conselhos vós me dais para voltar a responder a esse povo?
7 And they spoke to him, saying, If you are kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your slaves forever.
7 E eles lhe falaram, dizendo: Se fores bondoso para com este povo, e agradá-los, e falares boas palavras, eles serão teus servos para sempre.
8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, that stood before him.
8 Porém, ele abandonou o conselho que os anciãos lhe deram, e tomou conselho com os moços que haviam crescido com ele, que se punham de pé diante dele.
9 And he said to them, What counsel do you{+} give, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter?
9 E ele lhes disse: Que conselho me dais para que possamos voltar e responder a esse povo, o qual falou comigo, dizendo: Alivia, de alguma forma, o jugo que o teu pai pôs sobre nós?
10 And the young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus you will say to the people who spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us; thus you will say to them, My little finger is thicker than my father's loins.
10 E os moços que haviam crescido com ele falaram-lhe, dizendo: Assim responderás ao povo que falou contigo, dizendo: O teu pai fez o nosso jugo pesado, mas faz tu com que ele seja, de algum modo, mais leve para nós; assim dirás a eles: O meu dedo mínimo será mais grosso do que os lombos de meu pai.
11 And now whereas my father laded you{+} with a heavy yoke, I will add to your{+} yoke: my father chastised you{+} with whips, but I [will chastise you{+}] with scorpions.
11 Pois enquanto o meu pai colocou um jugo pesado sobre vós, eu porei mais para o vosso jugo; o meu pai vos castigava com chicotes, mas eu vos castigarei com escorpiões.
12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come to me again the third day.
12 Assim, Jeroboão, e todo o povo, vieram até Roboão no terceiro dia, como o rei ordenou, dizendo: Retornai a mim no terceiro dia.
13 And the king answered them roughly; and King Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,
13 E o rei respondeu-lhes grosseiramente; e o rei Roboão desprezou o conselho dos anciãos,
14 and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, I will make your{+} yoke heavy, and I will add to [the yoke of] my father. He chastised you{+} with whips, but I [will chastise you{+}] with scorpions.
14 e respondeu a eles segundo o conselho dos jovens, dizendo: O meu pai fez o seu jugo pesado, mas eu acrescentarei a isto; o meu pai vos castigou com chicotes, mas eu vos castigarei com escorpiões.
15 So the king didn't listen to the people; for it was brought about of God, that Yahweh might establish his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat
15 Assim, o rei não atentou ao povo; porque a causa era de Deus, para que o SENHOR pudesse cumprir a sua palavra, a qual ele falou pela mão de Aías, o silonita, a Jeroboão, o filho de Nebate.
16 and to all Israel: that the king would not listen to them. The people answered the king, saying, What portion do we have in David? Neither do we have inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your{+} tents, O Israel: now see to your own house, David. So all Israel departed to their tents.
16 E quando todo o Israel viu que o rei não quis ouvir a eles, o povo respondeu ao rei, dizendo: Que parte temos nós com Davi? E nós não temos herança alguma no filho de Jessé; cada homem para a sua tenda, ó Israel; e agora, Davi, olha pela tua própria casa. Assim, todo o Israel foi para as suas tendas.
17 But as for the sons of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
17 Porém, quanto aos filhos de Israel que habitavam nas cidades de Judá, Roboão reinou sobre eles.
18 Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the men subject to slave labor; and the sons of Israel stoned him to death with stones. And King Rehoboam made speed to get up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
18 Então, o rei Roboão enviou Adorão, que estava sobre o tributo; e os filhos de Israel o apedrejaram com pedras, de modo que morreu. Porém, o rei Roboão apressou-se em subir na sua carruagem, e fugiu para Jerusalém.
19 So Israel rebelled against the house of David to this day.
19 E Israel se rebelou contra a casa de Davi até este dia.
