1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not suitable for a fool.
1 Elogiar um tolo é tão absurdo como cair neve no verão ou chover no tempo da colheita.
2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
2 A maldição não cai sobre quem não merece; ela é como um passarinho que voa sem rumo.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.
3 O chicote foi feito para o cavalo, o freio, para o jumento, e a vara, para as costas de quem não tem juízo.
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like unto him.
4 Quem dá uma resposta séria a uma pergunta tola é tão tolo como quem a fez.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
5 Responda ao tolo de acordo com a tolice dele para que ele não fique pensando que é sábio.
6 He that sends a message by the hand of a fool cuts off the feet, and drinks damage.
6 Quem manda um tolo dar um recado está procurando problemas; seria melhor que cortasse os próprios pés.
7 The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
7 Um provérbio citado por um tolo tem tanto valor como as pernas de um aleijado.
8 As he that binds a stone in a sling, so is he that gives honour to a fool.
8 Elogiar um tolo é o mesmo que amarrar a pedra no estilingue .
9 As a thorn goes up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouths of fools.
9 O tolo, citando um provérbio, é como o bêbado tentando tirar um espinho da mão.
10 The great God that formed all things both rewards the fool, and rewards transgressors.
10 O patrão que contrata qualquer tolo que lhe pede emprego acaba prejudicando todos.
11 As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool returns to his folly.
11 O tolo que faz uma tolice pela segunda vez é como um cachorro que volta ao seu vômito.
12 See you a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
12 Pode-se esperar mais de um tolo do que de quem pensa que é mais sábio do que é.
13 The slothful man says, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.
13 O preguiçoso fica em casa e diz: “Se eu sair, o leão me pega.”
14 As the door turns upon his hinges, so does the slothful upon his bed.
14 O preguiçoso vira de um lado para outro na cama. Ele é como uma porta que gira nas dobradiças, mas, de fato, não sai do lugar.
15 The slothful hides his hand in his bosom; it grieves him to bring it again to his mouth.
15 Existe gente que tem preguiça até de pôr a comida na própria boca.
16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
16 O preguiçoso acha que ele sozinho sabe mais do que sete homens capazes de dar respostas certas.
17 He that passes by, and meddles with strife belonging not to him, is like one that takes a dog by the ears.
17 Quem se mete na discussão dos outros é como quem agarra pelas orelhas um cachorro que vai passando.
18 As a mad man who casts firebrands, arrows, and death,

19 So is the man that deceives his neighbour, and says, Am not I in sport?

20 Where no wood is, there the fire goes out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceases.
20 Sem lenha o fogo se apaga; sem mexericos a briga se acaba.
21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
21 Como carvão sobre as brasas e lenha no fogo, assim é o briguento para atiçar uma briga.
22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
22 Os mexericos são tão deliciosos! Como gostamos de saboreá-los!
23 Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.
23 Como o verniz cobre um pote de barro, as palavras fingidas encobrem um coração mau.
24 He that hates dissembles with his lips, and lays up deceit within him;
24 O hipócrita que odeia esconde o seu ódio atrás da bajulação.
25 When he speaks fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.
25 Ele pode falar muito bem, mas não acredite no que ele diz porque o seu coração está cheio de ódio.
26 Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be showed before the whole congregation.
26 Ele pode disfarçar, mas todos acabarão vendo a sua maldade.
27 Whoso digs a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolls a stone, it will return upon him.
27 Quem coloca uma armadilha para os outros acaba caindo nela; quem rola uma pedra será esmagado por ela.
28 A lying tongue hates those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth works ruin.
28 Quem odeia fere os outros com mentiras; as palavras bajuladoras causam desgraças.
