Romanos 11

1 I ask, then, ‘Has God rejected his people?’ Heaven forbid! For I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
1 Pergunto, pois: Acaso Deus rejeitou o seu povo? De maneira nenhuma! Eu mesmo sou israelita, descendente de Abraão, da tribo de Benjamim.
2 God has not rejected his people, whom he chose from the first. Have you forgotten the words of scripture in the story of Elijah — how he appeals to God against Israel?
2 Deus não rejeitou o seu povo, o qual de antemão conheceu. Ou vocês não sabem como Elias clamou a Deus contra Israel, conforme diz a Escritura?
3 ‘Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have pulled down your altars, and I only am left; and now they are eager to take my life.’
3 "Senhor, mataram os teus profetas e derrubaram os teus altares; sou o único que sobrou, e agora estão procurando matar-me".
4 But what was the divine response? ‘I have kept for myself seven thousand who have never bowed the knee to Baal.’
4 E qual foi a resposta divina? "Reservei para mim sete mil homens que não dobraram os joelhos diante de Baal".
5 And so in our own time, too, there is to be found a remnant of our nation selected by God in love.
5 Assim, hoje também há um remanescente escolhido pela graça.
6 But if in love, then no longer as a result of obedience. Otherwise love would cease to be love.
6 E, se é pela graça, já não é mais pelas obras; se fosse, a graça já não seria graça.
7 What follows from this? Why, that Israel as a nation failed to secure what it was seeking, while those whom God selected did secure it.
7 Que dizer então? Israel não conseguiu aquilo que tanto buscava, mas os eleitos o obtiveram. Os demais foram endurecidos,
8 The rest grew callous; as scripture says — ‘God has given them a deadness of mind — eyes that are not to see and ears that are not to hear — and it is so to this very day.’
8 como está escrito: "Deus lhes deu um espírito de atordoamento, olhos para não ver e ouvidos para não ouvir, até o dia de hoje".
9 David, too, says — ‘May their feasts prove a snare and a trap to them — a hindrance and a retribution;
9 E Davi diz: "Que a mesa deles se transforme em laço e armadilha, pedra de tropeço e retribuição para eles.
10 may their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see; and do you always make their backs to bend.’
10 Escurençam-se os seus olhos, para que não consigam ver, e suas costas fiquem encurvadas para sempre".
11 I ask then — ‘Was their stumbling to result in their fall?’ Heaven forbid! On the contrary, through their falling away salvation has reached the Gentiles, to stir the rivalry of Israel.
11 Novamente pergunto: Acaso tropeçaram para que ficassem caídos? De maneira nenhuma! Ao contrário, por causa da transgressão deles, veio salvação para os gentios, para provocar ciúme em Israel.
12 And, if their falling away has enriched the world, and their failure has enriched the Gentiles, how much more will result from their full restoration!
12 Mas se a transgressão deles significa riqueza para o mundo, e o seu fracasso, riqueza para os gentios, quanto mais significará a sua plenitude!
13 But I am speaking to you who were Gentiles.
13 Estou falando a vocês, gentios. Visto que sou apóstolo para os gentios, exalto o meu ministério,
14 Being myself an apostle to the Gentiles, I exalt my office, in the hope that I may stir my countrymen to rivalry, and so save some of them.
14 na esperança de que de alguma forma possa provocar ciúme em meu próprio povo e salvar alguns deles.
15 For, if their being cast aside has meant the reconciliation of the world, what will their reception mean, but life from the dead?
15 Pois se a rejeição deles é a reconciliação do mundo, o que será a sua aceitação, senão vida dentre os mortos?
16 If the first handful of dough in holy, so is the whole mass; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.
16 Se é santa a parte da massa que é oferecida como primeiros frutos, toda a massa também o é; se a raiz é santa, os ramos também o serão.
17 Some, however, of the branches were broken off, and you, who were only a wild olive, were grafted in among them, and came to share with them the root which is the source of the richness of the cultivated olive.
17 Se alguns ramos foram cortados, e você, sendo oliveira brava, foi enxertado entre os outros e agora participa da seiva que vem da raiz da oliveira,
18 Yet do not exult over the other branches. But, if you do exult over them, remember that you do not support the root, but that the root supports you.
18 não se glorie contra esses ramos. Se o fizer, saiba que não é você quem sustenta a raiz, mas a raiz a você.
19 But branches, you will say, were broken off, so that I might be grafted in.
19 Então você dirá: "Os ramos foram cortados, para que eu fosse enxertado".
20 True; it was because of their want of faith that they were broken off, and it is because of your faith that you are standing. Do not think too highly of yourself, but beware.
20 Está certo. Eles, porém, foram cortados devido à incredulidade, e você permanece pela fé. Não se orgulhe, mas tema.
21 For, if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.
21 Pois se Deus não poupou os ramos naturais, também não poupará você.
22 See, then, both the goodness and the severity of God — his severity towards those who fell, and his goodness towards you, provided that you continue to confide in that goodness; otherwise you, also, will be cut off.
22 Portanto, considere a bondade e a severidade de Deus: severidade para com aqueles que caíram, mas bondade para com você, desde que permaneça na bondade dele. De outra forma, você também será cortado.
23 And they, too, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in; for God has it in his power to graft them in again.
23 E quanto a eles, se não continuarem na incredulidade, serão enxertados, pois Deus é capaz de enxertá-los outra vez.
24 If you were cut off from your natural stock — a wild olive — and were grafted, contrary to the course of nature, on a good olive, much more will they — the natural branches — be grafted back into their parent tree.
24 Afinal de contas, se você foi cortado de uma oliveira brava por natureza e, de maneira antinatural, foi enxertado numa oliveira cultivada, quanto mais serão enxertados os ramos naturais em sua própria oliveira?
25 My friends, so that you don't think too highly of yourselves, I want you to recognize the truth, hitherto hidden, that the callousness which has come over Israel is only partial, and will continue only until the whole Gentile world has been gathered in.
25 Irmãos, não quero que ignorem este mistério, para que não se tornem presunçosos: Israel experimentou um endurecimento em parte, até que chegasse a plenitude dos gentios.
26 And then all Israel will be saved. As scripture says — ‘From Zion will come the Deliverer; he will banish ungodliness from Jacob.
26 E assim todo o Israel será salvo, como está escrito: "Virá de Sião o redentor que desviará de Jacó a impiedade.
27 And they will see the fulfillment of my covenant, when I have taken away their sins.’
27 E esta é a minha aliança com eles quando eu remover os seus pecados".
28 From the standpoint of the good news, the Jews are God’s enemies for your sake; but from the standpoint of God’s selection, they are dear to him for the sake of the Patriarchs.
28 Quanto ao evangelho, eles são inimigos por causa de vocês; mas quanto à eleição, são amados por causa dos patriarcas,
29 For God never regrets his gifts or his call.
29 pois os dons e o chamado de Deus são irrevogáveis.
30 Just as you at one time were disobedient to him, but have now found mercy in the day of their disobedience;
30 Assim como vocês, que antes eram desobedientes a Deus mas agora receberam misericórdia, graças à desobediência deles,
31 so, too, they have now become disobedient in your day of mercy, in order that they also in their turn may now find mercy.
31 assim também agora eles se tornaram desobedientes, a fim de que também recebam agora misericórdia, graças à misericórdia de Deus para com vocês.
32 For God has given all alike over to disobedience, that to all alike he may show mercy.
32 Pois Deus colocou todos sob a desobediência, para exercer misericórdia para com todos.
33 Oh! The unfathomable wisdom and knowledge of God! How inscrutable are his judgments, how untraceable his ways! Yes —
33 Ó profundidade da riqueza da sabedoria e do conhecimento de Deus! Quão insondáveis são os seus juízos, e inescrutáveis os seus caminhos!
34 ‘Who has ever comprehended the mind of the Lord? Who has ever become his counsellor?
34 "Quem conheceu a mente do Senhor? Ou quem foi seu conselheiro? "
35 Or who has first given to him, so that he may claim a reward?’
35 "Quem primeiro lhe deu, para que ele o recompense? "
36 For all things are from him, through him, and for him. And to him be all glory for ever and ever! Amen.
36 Pois dele, por ele e para ele são todas as coisas. A ele seja a glória para sempre! Amém.
