1 When we had torn ourselves away and had set sail, we ran before the wind to Cos; the next day we came to Rhodes, and from there to Patara,
1 Depois de nos despedirmos, navegamos em direção à ilha de Cós. No dia seguinte, chegamos a Rodes e, então, a Pátara.
2 where we found a ship crossing to Phoenicia, and went on board and set sail.
2 Ali, embarcamos num navio que partia para a Fenícia.
3 After sighting Cyprus and leaving it on the left, we sailed to Syria, and put into Tyre, where the ship was to discharge her cargo.
3 Avistamos a ilha de Chipre, passamos por ela à nossa esquerda e aportamos em Tiro, na Síria, onde o navio deixaria sua carga.
4 There we found the disciples and stayed a week with them. Speaking under the influence of the Spirit, they warned Paul not to set foot in Jerusalem.
4 No desembarque, encontramos os discípulos que ali viviam e ficamos com eles por uma semana. Pelo Espírito, eles advertiam Paulo de que não fosse a Jerusalém.
5 However, when we had come to the end of our visit, we went on our way, all the disciples with their wives and children escorting us out of the city. We knelt down on the beach, and prayed,

6 and then said goodbye to one another; after which we went on board, and they returned home.

7 After we had made the run from Tyre, we landed at Ptolemais, and exchanged greetings with the followers there, and spent a day with them.
7 Depois que partimos de Tiro, chegamos a Ptolemaida, onde saudamos os irmãos e passamos um dia.
8 The next day we left, and reached Caesarea, where we went to the house of Philip, the missionary, who was one of ‘the Seven,’ and stayed with him.
8 No dia seguinte, prosseguimos para Cesareia e nos hospedamos na casa de Filipe, o evangelista, um dos sete que tinham servido na igreja em Jerusalém.
9 He had four unmarried daughters, who had the gift of prophecy.

10 During our visit, which lasted several days, a prophet, named Agabus, came down from Judea.
10 Muitos dias depois, chegou da Judeia um profeta chamado Ágabo.
11 He came to see us, and, taking Paul’s girdle, and binding his own feet and hands with it, said: “This is what the Holy Spirit says — ‘The man to whom this girdle belongs will be bound like this by the religious authorities in Jerusalem, and they will give him up to the Gentiles’.”
11 Ele veio ao nosso encontro, tomou o cinto de Paulo e com ele amarrou os próprios pés e as mãos. Em seguida, disse: “O Espírito Santo declara: ‘Assim o dono deste cinto será amarrado pelos judeus, em Jerusalém, e entregue aos gentios’”.
12 When we heard that, we and the people of the place began to entreat Paul not to go up to Jerusalem.
12 Ao ouvir isso, nós e os irmãos dali suplicamos a Paulo que não fosse a Jerusalém.
13 It was then that Paul made the reply: “Why are you weeping and breaking my heart like this? For my part, I am ready not only to be bound, but even to suffer death at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”
13 Ele, porém, disse: “Por que todo esse choro? Assim vocês me partem o coração! Estou pronto não apenas para ser preso em Jerusalém, mas para morrer pelo Senhor Jesus”.
14 So, as he would not be persuaded, we said no more to him, only adding — “The Lord’s will be done.”
14 Quando ficou evidente que não conseguiríamos fazê-lo mudar de ideia, desistimos e dissemos: “Que seja feita a vontade do Senhor”.
15 At the end of our visit, we made our preparations, and started on our way up to Jerusalem.
15 Depois disso, arrumamos nossas coisas e partimos para Jerusalém.
16 Some of the disciples from Caesarea went with us, and brought Mnason with them, a Cypriot disciple of long standing, with whom we were to stay.
16 Alguns discípulos de Cesareia nos acompanharam e nos levaram à casa de Mnasom, nascido em Chipre e um dos primeiros discípulos.
17 On our arrival at Jerusalem, the followers of the Lord there gave us a hearty welcome;
17 Quando chegamos a Jerusalém, os irmãos nos deram calorosas boas-vindas.
18 and the next day Paul went with us to see James, and all the officers of the church were present.
18 No dia seguinte, Paulo foi conosco a um encontro com Tiago, e todos os presbíteros da igreja de Jerusalém estavam presentes.
19 After greeting them, Paul related in detail all that God had done among the Gentiles through his efforts;
19 Depois que Paulo os cumprimentou, relatou em detalhes o que Deus havia realizado entre os gentios por meio de seu ministério.
20 and, when they had heard it, they began praising God, and said to Paul: “You see, brother, that those of our people who have become believers in Christ may be numbered by tens of thousands, and they are all naturally earnest in upholding the Jewish law.
20 Quando ouviram isso, louvaram a Deus e disseram: “Você sabe, irmão, quantos milhares de judeus também creram, e todos eles seguem à risca a lei de Moisés.
21 Now they have heard it said about you, that you teach all of our people in foreign countries to forsake Moses, for you tell them not to circumcise their children or even to observe Jewish customs.
21 Mas eles foram informados de que você ensina todos os judeus que vivem entre os gentios a abandonarem a lei de Moisés. Ouviram que você os instrui a não circuncidarem os filhos nem seguirem os costumes judaicos.
22 Well now, as they are certain to hear of your arrival, do what we are going to suggest.
22 Que faremos? Certamente eles saberão que você chegou.
23 We have four men here, who have of their own accord put themselves under a vow.
23 “Queremos que você faça o seguinte. Temos aqui quatro homens que cumpriram um voto.
24 Join these men, share their purification, and bear their expenses, so that they may shave their heads; and then all will see that there is no truth in what they have been told about you, but that, on the contrary, you yourself rule your life in obedience to the Jewish law.
24 Vá com eles ao templo e participe da cerimônia de purificação. Pague as despesas para realizarem o ritual de raspar a cabeça. Então todos saberão que os rumores são falsos e que você mesmo cumpre as leis judaicas.
25 As to the Gentiles who have become believers in Christ, we have sent our decision that they should avoid food offered to idols, and blood, and the flesh of strangled animals, and impurity.”
25 “Quanto aos convertidos gentios, devem fazer aquilo que pedimos por carta: abster-se de comer alimentos oferecidos a ídolos, de consumir o sangue ou a carne de animais estrangulados e de praticar a imoralidade sexual”.
26 Paul joined the men, and the next day shared their purification, and went into the Temple, and gave notice of the expiration of the period of purification when the usual offering should have been made on behalf of each of them.
26 No dia seguinte, Paulo se purificou junto com aqueles homens e entrou no templo. Declarou quando terminariam os dias da purificação e quando seria oferecido o sacrifício em favor deles.
27 But, just as the seven days were drawing to a close, some of the Jewish people from Roman Asia caught sight of Paul in the Temple, and caused great excitement among all the people present, by seizing Paul and shouting:
27 Estando os sete dias quase no fim, alguns judeus da província da Ásia viram Paulo no templo e incitaram a multidão contra ele. Agarraram-no,
28 “People of Israel! Help! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people, our law, and this place; and, what is more, he has actually brought Greeks into the Temple and defiled this sacred place.”
28 gritando: “Homens de Israel, ajudem-nos! Este é o homem que fala contra nosso povo em toda parte e ensina todos a desobedecerem às leis judaicas. Fala contra o templo e até profana este santo lugar, trazendo gentios para dentro dele”.
29 (For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian in Paul’s company in the city, and were under the belief that Paul had taken him into the Temple.)
29 Antes tinham visto Paulo na cidade com Trófimo, um gentio de Éfeso, e concluíram que Paulo o havia levado para dentro do templo.
30 The whole city was stirred, and the people quickly collected, seized Paul, and dragged him out of the Temple, when the doors were immediately shut.
30 Toda a cidade se agitou com essas acusações, e houve grande tumulto. A multidão agarrou Paulo e o arrastou para fora do templo, e imediatamente foram fechadas as portas.
31 They were bent on killing him, when it was reported to the officer commanding the garrison, that all Jerusalem was in commotion.
31 Quando procuravam matar Paulo, chegou ao comandante do regimento romano a notícia de que toda a Jerusalém estava em rebuliço.
32 He instantly got together some officers and soldiers, and charged down on the crowd, who, when they saw the commanding officer and his soldiers, stopped beating Paul.
32 No mesmo instante, ele chamou seus soldados e oficiais e correu para o meio da multidão. Quando viram o comandante e os soldados se aproximarem, pararam de espancar Paulo.
33 Then he went up to Paul, arrested him, ordered him to be doubly chained, and proceeded to inquire who he was, and what he had been doing.
33 Então o comandante o prendeu e mandou que o amarrassem com duas correntes. Em seguida, perguntou à multidão quem era ele e o que havia feito.
34 Some of the crowd said one thing, and some another; and, as he could get no definite reply because of the uproar, he ordered Paul to be taken into the barracks.
34 Uns gritavam uma coisa, outros gritavam outra. Não conseguindo descobrir a verdade no meio de todo o tumulto, ordenou que Paulo fosse levado à fortaleza.
35 When Paul reached the steps, he was actually being carried by the soldiers, owing to the violence of the mob;
35 Quando Paulo chegou às escadas, o povo se tornou tão violento que os soldados tiveram de levantá-lo nos ombros para protegê-lo.
36 for the people were following in a mass, shouting out: “Kill him!”
36 E a multidão foi atrás, gritando: “Matem-no! Matem-no!”.
37 Just as he was about to be taken into the Fort, Paul said to the commanding officer: “May I speak to you?” “Do you know Greek?” asked the commanding officer.
37 Quando Paulo estava para ser levado à fortaleza, disse ao comandante: “Posso ter uma palavra com o senhor?”. Surpreso, o comandante perguntou: “Você fala grego?
38 “Are not you, then, the Egyptian who some time ago raised an insurrection and led the four thousand Bandits out into the wilderness?”
38 Não é você o egípcio que liderou uma rebelião algum tempo atrás e levou consigo ao deserto quatro mil assassinos?”.
39 “No,” said Paul, “I am a Jew of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of a city of some note; and I beg you to give me permission to speak to the people.”
39 “Não”, respondeu Paulo. “Sou judeu e cidadão de Tarso, cidade importante da Cilícia. Por favor, permita-me falar a esta gente.”
40 The commanding officer gave his permission, and Paul, standing on the steps, made signs with his hand to the people, and, when comparative silence had been obtained, he said to them in Hebrew:
40 O comandante concordou, de modo que Paulo ficou em pé na escadaria e fez sinal para o povo se calar. Logo, um silêncio profundo envolveu a multidão, e ele lhes falou em aramaico, o idioma deles.
