1 Then the fifth angel blew; and I saw a star that had fallen on the earth from the heavens, and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
1 E o quinto anjo tocou a trombeta, e vi uma estrela que do céu caiu na terra; e foi-lhe dada a chave do poço do abismo.
2 He opened the bottomless pit, and from the pit rose a smoke like the smoke of a great furnace. The sun and the air grew dark because of the smoke from the pit.
2 E abriu o poço do abismo, e subiu fumaça do poço como a fumaça de uma grande fornalha e, com a fumaça do poço, escureceu-se o sol e o ar.
3 Out of the smoke locusts descended on the earth, and they received the same power as that possessed by scorpions.
3 E da fumaça vieram gafanhotos sobre a terra; e foi-lhes dado poder como o poder que têm os escorpiões da terra.
4 They were told not to harm the grass, or any plant, or any tree, but only those who have not ‘the seal of God on their foreheads.’
4 E foi-lhes dito que não fizessem dano à erva da terra, nem a verdura alguma, nem a árvore alguma, mas somente aos homens que não têm na testa o sinal de Deus.
5 Yet they were not allowed to kill them, but it was ordered that those men should be tortured for five months. Their torture was like the torture caused by a scorpion when it stings a person.
5 E foi-lhes permitido, não que os matassem, mas que por cinco meses os atormentassem; e o seu tormento era semelhante ao tormento do escorpião quando fere o homem.
6 In those days people ‘will seek Death and will not find it’; They will long to die, but Death flees from them.
6 E naqueles dias os homens buscarão a morte e não a acharão; e desejarão morrer, e a morte fugirá deles.
7 In appearance the locusts were like horses equipped for battle. On their heads there were what appeared to be crowns that shone like gold, their faces resembled human faces,
7 E o aspecto dos gafanhotos era semelhante ao de cavalos aparelhados para a guerra; e sobre a sua cabeça havia umas como coroas semelhantes ao ouro; e o seu rosto era como rosto de homem.
8 and they had hair like the hair of a woman, their teeth were like lions’ teeth,
8 E tinham cabelos como cabelos de mulher, e os seus dentes eram como de leão.
9 and they had what seemed to be iron breastplates, while the noise of their wings was like the noise of chariots drawn by many horses, galloping into battle.
9 E tinham couraças como couraças de ferro; e o ruído das suas asas era como o ruído de carros, quando muitos cavalos correm ao combate.
10 They have tails like scorpions, and stings, and in their tails lies their power to harm people for five months.
10 E tinham cauda semelhante à dos escorpiões e aguilhão na cauda; e o seu poder era para danificar os homens por cinco meses.
11 They have as their king the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name, in Hebrew, is ‘Abaddon,’ while, in Greek, his name is ‘Apollyon’ (the Destroyer).
11 E tinham sobre si rei, o anjo do abismo; em hebreu era o seu nome Abadom, e em grego, Apoliom.
12 The first Woe has passed; and still there are two Woes to follow!
12 Passado é já um ai; eis que depois disso vêm ainda dois ais.
13 Then the sixth angel blew; and I heard a voice proceeding from the corners of the golden altar that stood before God.
13 E tocou o sexto anjo a trombeta, e ouvi uma voz que vinha das quatro pontas do altar de ouro que estava diante de Deus,
14 It spoke to the sixth angel — the angel with the trumpet — and said ‘Let loose the four angels that are in chains at the great river Euphrates.’
14 a qual dizia ao sexto anjo, que tinha a trombeta: Solta os quatro anjos que estão presos junto ao grande rio Eufrates.
15 Then the four angels, that were held in readiness for that hour and day and month and year, were let loose, to destroy a third of mankind.
15 E foram soltos os quatro anjos que estavam preparados para a hora, e dia, e mês, e ano, a fim de matarem a terça parte dos homens.
16 The number of the hosts of cavalry was ten thousand times ten thousand, twice told; I heard their number.
16 E o número dos exércitos dos cavaleiros era de duzentos milhões; e ouvi o número deles.
17 And this is what the horses and their riders appeared to be like in my vision: — They had breastplates of fire, blood-red and sulphurous, and the heads of the horses were like lions’ heads, while out of their mouths issue fire, and smoke, and sulphur.
17 E assim vi os cavalos nesta visão; e os que sobre eles cavalgavam tinham couraças de fogo, e de jacinto, e de enxofre; e a cabeça dos cavalos era como cabeça de leão; e de sua boca saía fogo, e fumaça, e enxofre.
18 Through these three curses a third of humanity perished — because of the fire, and the smoke, and the sulphur that issued from their mouths;
18 Por estas três pragas foi morta a terça parte dos homens, isto é, pelo fogo, pela fumaça e pelo enxofre, que saíam da sua boca.
19 for the power of the horses lies in their mouths and in their tails. For their tails are like snakes, with heads, and it is with them that they do harm.
19 Porque o poder dos cavalos está na sua boca e na sua cauda, porquanto a sua cauda é semelhante a serpentes e tem cabeça, e com ela danificam.
20 But those who were left of humanity, who had not perished through these curses, did not repent and turn away from what their own hands had made; they would not abandon the worship of ‘demons, and of idols made of gold or silver or brass or stone or wood, which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk’;
20 E os outros homens, que não foram mortos por estas pragas, não se arrependeram das obras de suas mãos, para não adorarem os demônios e os ídolos de ouro, e de prata, e de bronze, e de pedra, e de madeira, que nem podem ver, nem ouvir, nem andar.
21 and they did not repent of their murders, or their sorceries, or their licentiousness, or their thefts.
21 E não se arrependeram dos seus homicídios, nem das suas feitiçarias, nem da sua prostituição, nem das suas ladroíces.
