1 And it happened when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the gatekeepers and the singers and the Levites were chosen,

2 I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem. For he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.
2 Para governar a cidade de Jerusalém, eu coloquei dois homens: o meu irmão Hanani e Hananias, o oficial comandante da fortaleza. Hananias era um homem fiel e temia a Deus mais do que qualquer outro.
3 And I said to them, Do not let the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot. And while they stand by, let them shut and bar the doors. And set guards from the people of Jerusalem, each one in his watch, and each one to be across from his house.
3 Eu disse aos dois que só mandassem abrir os portões de Jerusalém quando o sol começasse a esquentar. E que mandassem fechar e trancar os portões antes que os guardas deixassem o serviço, na hora do pôr do sol. Também ordenei que escolhessem guardas entre o povo que morava em Jerusalém. 4 And the city was large and great, but the people in it were few, and the houses not built.

5 And my God put into my heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, so that they might be counted by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of those who came up at the first. And I found written in it:
