¹ But Job answered and said,

¹ Jó, porém, respondeu, dizendo:

² How have you helped the powerless, or saved the arm that has no strength?

² Como ajudaste aquele que não tinha força, e sustentaste o braço que não tinha vigor?

³ How have you advised those not wise, or fully declared wise plans?

³ Como aconselhaste aquele que não tinha sabedoria, e plenamente fizeste saber a causa, assim como era?

⁴ To whom have you spoken words? And whose spirit came from you?

⁴ A quem proferiste palavras, e de quem é o espírito que saiu de ti?

⁵ The departed spirits tremble under the waters, and those who dwell in them.

⁵ Os mortos tremem debaixo das águas, com os seus moradores.

⁶ Hell is naked before Him, and the Pit has no covering.

⁶ O inferno está nu perante ele, e não há coberta para a perdição.

⁷ He stretches out the north over the empty place, and He hung the earth on nothing.

⁸ He binds up the waters in His thick clouds; and the cloud is not torn under them.

⁹ He covers the face of His throne, spreading His cloud on it.

¹⁰ He has described a circle on the surface of the waters to the boundary of light with darkness.

¹¹ The pillars of the heavens tremble and are astonished at His rebuke.

¹¹ As colunas do céu tremem, e se espantam da sua ameaça.

¹² He quiets the sea with His power, and by His understanding He shatters the proud.

¹² Com a sua força fende o mar, e com o seu entendimento abate a soberba.

¹³ By His Spirit the heavens were beautiful; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent.

¹³ Pelo seu Espírito ornou os céus; a sua mão formou a serpente enroscadiça.

¹⁴ Lo, these are the edges of His ways; but what a whisper of a word we hear of Him! And the thunder of His power who can understand?

¹⁴ Eis que isto são apenas as orlas dos seus caminhos; e quão pouco é o que temos ouvido dele! Quem, pois, entenderia o trovão do seu poder?
