1 And afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, Thus says Jehovah, God of Israel: Let My people go, that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.
1 Depois disso, Moisés e Arão foram ver o faraó e declararam: “Assim diz o S enhor , o Deus de Israel: ‘Deixe meu povo sair para celebrar uma festa em minha honra no deserto’”.
2 And Pharaoh said, Who is Jehovah, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know Jehovah, neither will I let Israel go.
2 “Quem é o S enhor ?”, retrucou o faraó. “Por que devo dar ouvidos a ele e deixar Israel sair? Não conheço o S enhor e não deixarei Israel sair.”
3 And they said, The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Let us go, we pray you, three days' journey into the desert and sacrifice to the LORD our God, lest He fall upon us with plague or with the sword.
3 Então Arão e Moisés disseram: “O Deus dos hebreus se encontrou conosco. Portanto, deixe-nos fazer uma viagem de três dias ao deserto para oferecermos sacrifícios ao S enhor , nosso Deus. Do contrário, ele nos castigará com alguma praga ou pela espada”.
4 And the king of Egypt said to them, Moses and Aaron, why do you keep the people from their work? Get to your burdens!
4 O rei do Egito respondeu: “Moisés e Arão, por que distraem o povo de suas tarefas? Voltem ao trabalho!
5 And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and you make them rest from their burdens.
5 Olhem! Há muitos do seu povo nesta terra, e vocês os estão impedindo de trabalhar!”.
6 And Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people and their officers the same day, saying,
6 Naquele mesmo dia, o faraó deu a seguinte ordem aos capatazes egípcios e aos supervisores israelitas:
7 You shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as before. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.
7 “Não forneçam mais palha para o povo fazer tijolos. De agora em diante, eles mesmos devem juntá-la!
8 And you shall lay upon them the number of bricks which they have made before now. You shall not take away from it. For they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go sacrifice to our God.
8 No entanto, continuem a exigir que produzam a mesma quantidade de tijolos que antes. Não reduzam a cota. Eles são preguiçosos e, por isso, clamam: ‘Deixe-nos sair para sacrificar ao nosso Deus’.
9 Let more work be laid upon the men, and let them labor in it. And do not let them regard vain words.
9 Aumentem a carga de trabalho deles e cobrem o cumprimento das tarefas. Isso os ensinará a não dar ouvidos a mentiras!”.
10 And the taskmasters of the people and their officers went out. And they spoke to the people, saying, So says Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.
10 Os capatazes e os supervisores saíram e informaram o povo: “Assim diz o faraó: ‘Vocês não receberão mais palha.
11 Go and get straw where you can find it, yet not any of your work shall be taken away.
11 Saiam e juntem-na onde puderem encontrá-la. No entanto, continuarão a produzir a mesma quantidade de tijolos que antes’”.
12 So the people were scattered through all the land of Egypt, to gather stubble for straw.
12 Então o povo se espalhou por toda a terra do Egito para juntar a palha que sobrava das colheitas.
13 And the taskmasters hurried them, saying, Finish your works, the thing of a day, just as when there was straw.
13 Enquanto isso, os capatazes egípcios continuavam a pressioná-los: “Completem sua cota diária de tijolos, como faziam quando nós lhes fornecíamos palha!”.
14 And the overseers of the sons of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten. And they demanded, Why have you not completed your task in making brick, both yesterday and today, as you did before?
14 E açoitavam os supervisores israelitas que haviam sido encarregados das equipes de trabalhadores. “Por que não completaram as cotas nem ontem nem hoje?”, perguntavam.
15 And the overseers of the sons of Israel came and cried to Pharaoh, saying, Why do you deal so with your servants?
15 Então os supervisores israelitas foram suplicar ao faraó: “Por favor, não trate seus servos desse modo.
16 There is no straw given to your servants, and they say to us, Make bricks! And behold, your servants are beaten, but the fault is in your own people.
16 Não recebemos palha, mas os capatazes continuam a exigir: ‘Façam tijolos!’. Somos açoitados constantemente, mas a culpa é do seu próprio povo!”.
17 But he said, You are idle! You are idle! Therefore you say, Let us go, let us sacrifice to the LORD.
17 O faraó, porém, gritou: “Vocês são preguiçosos! Preguiçosos! Por isso, andam dizendo: ‘Deixe-nos sair para oferecer sacrifícios ao S enhor ’.
18 Therefore go now and work, for there shall be no straw given to you; yet you shall deliver the number of bricks.
18 Voltem agora mesmo ao trabalho! Não receberão palha, mas terão de produzir a mesma cota de tijolos”.
19 And the overseers of the sons of Israel saw themselves in affliction, after it was said, You shall not take away from your bricks of your daily task.
19 Quando os supervisores israelitas ouviram: “Vocês não poderão reduzir a quantidade de tijolos produzidos por dia”, perceberam que estavam em sérios apuros.
20 And they met Moses and Aaron standing in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh.
20 Ao sair do palácio do faraó, encontraram Moisés e Arão, que os esperavam do lado de fora.
21 And they said to them, The LORD look upon you and judge, because you have made our smell to stink in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hands to kill us.
21 Eles disseram aos dois irmãos: “O S enhor os julgue e os castigue por terem feito o faraó e seus oficiais nos odiarem. Vocês colocaram uma espada na mão deles e lhes deram uma desculpa para nos matar!”.
22 And Moses returned to the LORD, and said, Lord, why have You treated this people ill? Why then have you sent me?
22 Moisés voltou ao S enhor e disse: “Por que trouxeste toda essa desgraça sobre este povo, Senhor? Por que me enviaste?
23 For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done evil to this people. Neither have You delivered Your people at all.
23 Desde que me apresentei ao faraó como teu porta-voz, ele passou a tratar teu povo com ainda mais crueldade. E tu não fizeste coisa alguma para libertá-lo!”.
