1 And it happened at that time that Judah went down, away from his brothers, and turned aside to a man of Adullam named Hirah.
1 E aconteceu no mesmo tempo que Judá desceu de entre seus irmãos e entrou na casa de um homem de Adulão, cujo nome era Hira,
2 And Judah saw there a daughter of a Canaanite man named Shuah. And he took her, and went in to her.
2 E viu Judá ali a filha de um homem cananeu, cujo nome era Sua; e tomou-a por mulher, e a possuiu.
3 And she conceived and bore a son. And he called his name Er.
3 E ela concebeu e deu à luz um filho, e chamou-lhe Er.
4 And she conceived again and bore a son and called his name Onan.
4 E tornou a conceber e deu à luz um filho, e chamou-lhe Onã.
5 And she continued still and bore a son. And she called his name Shelah. And he was at Chezib when she bore him.
5 E continuou ainda e deu à luz um filho, e chamou-lhe Selá; e Judá estava em Quezibe, quando ela o deu à luz.
6 And Judah took a wife for his first born, Er, and her name, Tamar.
6 Judá, pois, tomou uma mulher para Er, o seu primogênito, e o seu nome era Tamar.
7 And Er, Judah's first born, was evil in the eyes of Jehovah. And Jehovah killed him.
7 Er, porém, o primogênito de Judá, era mau aos olhos do Senhor, por isso o Senhor o matou.
8 And Judah said to Onan, Go in to your brother's wife and marry her , and raise up seed to your brother.
8 Então disse Judá a Onã: Toma a mulher do teu irmão, e casa-te com ela, e suscita descendência a teu irmão.
9 And Onan knew that the seed would not be his. And it happened when he went into his brother's wife, he wasted his semen to the ground, not giving seed to his brother.
9 Onã, porém, soube que esta descendência não havia de ser para ele; e aconteceu que, quando possuía a mulher de seu irmão, derramava o sêmen na terra, para não dar descendência a seu irmão.
10 And what he did was evil in the eyes of Jehovah, and He also killed him.
10 E o que fazia era mau aos olhos do Senhor, pelo que também o matou.
11 And Judah said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, Live as a widow in your father's house until my son Shelah is grown. For he said, Lest he also die like his brothers. And Tamar went and lived in her father's house.
11 Então disse Judá a Tamar sua nora: Fica-te viúva na casa de teu pai, até que Selá, meu filho, seja grande. Porquanto disse: Para que porventura não morra também este, como seus irmãos. Assim se foi Tamar e ficou na casa de seu pai.
12 And the days were many, and the wife of Judah, the daughter of Shuah, died. And Judah was comforted, and he went up to the shearers of his flocks, he and his friend Hirah of Adullam, to Timnah.
12 Passando-se pois muitos dias, morreu a filha de Sua, mulher de Judá; e depois de consolado Judá subiu aos tosquiadores das suas ovelhas em Timna, ele e Hira, seu amigo, o adulamita.
13 And Tamar was told, saying, Behold, your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to shear his flocks.
13 E deram aviso a Tamar, dizendo: Eis que o teu sogro sobe a Timna, a tosquiar as suas ovelhas.
14 And she took off her widow's robes from her, and veiled herself with a veil, and disguised herself. And she sat at the entrance of Enaim, which is on the way to Timnah. For she saw that Shelah had grown up, and she had not been given to him for a wife.
14 Então ela tirou de sobre si os vestidos da sua viuvez e cobriu-se com o véu, e envolveu-se, e assentou-se à entrada das duas fontes que estão no caminho de Timna, porque via que Selá já era grande, e ela não lhe fora dada por mulher.
15 And Judah saw her. And he thought her to be a harlot, because she had veiled her face.
15 E vendo-a Judá, teve-a por uma prostituta, porque ela tinha coberto o seu rosto.
16 And he turned aside to her by the roadway, and said, Come now, let me come in to you. For he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said, What will you give me that you may come in to me?
16 E dirigiu-se a ela no caminho, e disse: Vem, peço-te, deixa-me possuir-te. Porquanto não sabia que era sua nora. E ela disse: Que darás, para que possuas a mim?
17 And he said, I will send a kid of the goats from the flock. And she said, Will you give me a pledge until you send it ?
17 E ele disse: Eu te enviarei um cabrito do rebanho. E ela disse: Dar-me-ás penhor até que o envies?
18 And he said, What pledge shall I give to you? And she said, Your signet ring, and your bracelet and your staff in your hand. And he gave to her, and came in to her. And she conceived by him.
18 Então ele disse: Que penhor é que te darei? E ela disse: O teu selo, e o teu cordão, e o cajado que está em tua mão. O que ele lhe deu, e possuiu-a, e ela concebeu dele.
19 And she rose up and left, and took off her veil from her face. And she put on her widow's robes.
19 E ela se levantou, e se foi e tirou de sobre si o seu véu, e vestiu os vestidos da sua viuvez.
20 And Judah sent the kid of the goats by the hand of his friend, the Adullamite, to receive the pledge from the woman's hand. And he did not find her.
20 E Judá enviou o cabrito por mão do seu amigo, o adulamita, para tomar o penhor da mão da mulher; porém não a achou.
21 And he asked the men of her place, saying, Where is the harlot that was at Enaim, by the roadway? And they said, There was no harlot here.
21 E perguntou aos homens daquele lugar dizendo: Onde está a prostituta que estava no caminho junto às duas fontes? E disseram: Aqui não esteve prostituta alguma.
22 And he returned to Judah and said, I have not found her. And also the men of the place said, There was no harlot here.
22 E tornou-se a Judá e disse: Não a achei; e também disseram os homens daquele lugar: Aqui não esteve prostituta.
23 And Judah said, Let her take them for herself, that we not become a laughing stock. See, I sent this kid, and you did not find her.
23 Então disse Judá: Deixa-a ficar com o penhor, para que porventura não caiamos em desprezo; eis que tenho enviado este cabrito; mas tu não a achaste.
24 And after three months, it happened. It was told to Judah, saying, Your daughter-in-law Tamar has committed adultery, and also, behold, she is pregnant by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her out and let her be burned.
24 E aconteceu que, quase três meses depois, deram aviso a Judá, dizendo: Tamar, tua nora, adulterou, e eis que está grávida do adultério. Então disse Judá: Tirai-a fora para que seja queimada.
25 She was being brought out, and she sent to her father-in-law, saying, I am pregnant by a man to whom these belong . And she said, Note now whose are these, the signet ring, the bracelet, and the staff?
25 E tirando-a fora, ela mandou dizer a seu sogro: Do homem de quem são estas coisas eu concebi. E ela disse mais: Conhece, peço-te, de quem é este selo, e este cordão, e este cajado.
26 And Judah knew and said, She is more righteous than I, because I did not give her to my son Shelah. And he never knew her again.
26 E conheceu-os Judá e disse: Mais justa é ela do que eu, porquanto não a tenho dado a Selá meu filho. E nunca mais a conheceu.
27 And in the time of her bearing, behold, it happened! Twins were in her womb.
27 E aconteceu ao tempo de dar à luz que havia gêmeos em seu ventre;
28 And in her bearing, it happened that one put forth a hand, and the midwife took it and tied crimson on his hand, saying, This one came out first.
28 E sucedeu que, dando ela à luz, que um pôs fora a mão, e a parteira tomou-a, e atou em sua mão um fio encarnado, dizendo: Este saiu primeiro.
29 And it happened as he withdrew his hand, behold, his brother came out. And she said, How have you broken a break for yourself? And one called his name Pharez.
29 Mas aconteceu que, tornando ele a recolher a sua mão, eis que saiu o seu irmão, e ela disse: Como tu tens rompido, sobre ti é a rotura. E chamaram-lhe Perez.
30 And then his brother came out, on whose hand was the crimson. And one called his name Zarah.
30 E depois saiu o seu irmão, em cuja mão estava o fio encarnado; e chamaram-lhe Zerá.
