1 And Abimelech son of Jerub-Baal went to Shechem, to the relatives of his mother, and he said to them and to the house of his mother’s father,
1 E Abimeleque, o filho de Jerubaal, foi a Siquém, até os irmãos da sua mãe e conversou com eles, e com toda a família da casa do pai da sua mãe, dizendo:
2 “⌞Speak to⌟ the lords of Shechem, ‘What is better for you, that seventy men all from the sons of Jerub-Baal rule over you, or that one man rules over you?’ Remember that I am your bone and your flesh.”
2 Falai, rogo-vos, aos ouvidos de todos os homens de Siquém: O que é melhor para vós: que todos os filhos de Jerubaal, que são setenta pessoas, reinem sobre vós, ou que reine um sobre vós? Lembrai também que eu sou vosso osso e vossa carne.
3 And his mother’s relatives spoke all these words concerning him ⌞to⌟ all the lords of Shechem; and ⌞they supported Abimelech⌟, for they said, “He is our relative.”
3 E os irmãos da sua mãe falaram todas estas suas palavras aos ouvidos de todos os homens de Siquém; e o coração deles se inclinou a seguir Abimeleque; pois disseram: Ele é nosso irmão.
4 And they gave to him seventy pieces of silver from the temple of Baal-Berith, and Abimelech hired with them worthless and reckless men, and ⌞they followed him⌟.
4 E eles lhe deram setenta peças de prata da casa de Baal-Berite, com as quais Abimeleque contratou pessoas vãs e levianas, que o seguiram.
5 And he went to his father’s house at Ophrah, and he killed his brothers, the sons of Jerub-Baal, seventy men, on one stone. But Jotham the youngest son of Jerub-Baal survived, because he hid himself.
5 E ele foi até a casa do seu pai em Ofra, e matou os seus irmãos, os filhos de Jerubaal, sendo setenta pessoas, sobre uma pedra; porém Jotão, o filho mais moço de Jerubaal, foi deixado, pois ele se escondeu.
6 All the lords of Shechem and Beth-Millo gathered, and they went and made Abimelech as king, near the oak of the pillar that is at Shechem.
6 E todos os homens de Siquém se reuniram, e toda a casa de Milo, e foram e fizeram de Abimeleque rei, junto à planície da coluna que estava em Siquém.
7 And they told Jotham, and he went up and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim, and ⌞he cried out loud⌟ and said to them, “Listen to me, lords of Shechem, so that God may listen to you.
7 E quando contaram a Jotão, ele foi e se pôs de pé no cume do monte Gerizim, e ergueu a sua voz, e gritou, e lhes disse: Atentai-me, vós homens de Siquém, para que Deus possa atentar a vós.
8 “The trees went certainly, to anoint a king over themselves. And they said to the olive tree, ‘Rule over us.’
8 As árvores foram, certa vez, ungir um rei sobre elas; e disseram à oliveira: Reina tu sobre nós.
9 And the olive tree replied, ‘Should I stop producing my oil, which by me gods and men are honored, to go sway over the trees?’
9 Porém, a oliveira disse a elas: Deveria eu deixar a minha gordura, com a qual, por mim, honra a Deus e aos homens, para ser promovida acima das árvores?
10 Then the trees said to the fig tree, ‘You, come rule over us.’
10 E as árvores disseram à figueira: Vem tu e reina sobre nós.
11 But the fig tree said to them, ‘Should I stop producing my sweetness, and my good crop, to go sway over the trees?’
11 Porém, a figueira disse a elas: Deveria eu abandonar a minha doçura, e o meu bom fruto, para ser promovida acima das árvores?
12 And the trees said to the vine, ‘You, come rule over us.’
12 Então, disseram as árvores à videira: Vem tu e reina sobre nós.
13 But the vine said to them, ‘Should I stop producing my wine that makes the gods and men happy, to go sway over the trees?’
13 E a videira lhes disse: Deveria eu deixar o meu vinho, que alegra Deus e os homens, para ser promovida acima das árvores?
14 So all the trees said to the thornbush, ‘You, come rule over us.’
14 Então, disseram todas as árvores ao espinheiro: Vem tu e reina sobre nós.
15 And the thornbush said to the trees, ‘If in good faith you are anointing me as king over you, then come and take refuge in my shade; if not, may fire go out from the thornbush and devour the cedars of Lebanon.’
15 E o espinheiro disse às árvores: Se, verdadeiramente, ungires-me rei sobre vós, então, vinde e ponde a vossa confiança na minha sombra; e se não, que o fogo saia da silveira e devore os cedros do Líbano.
16 “So then, if you have acted in good faith and sincerity in making Abimelech king, and if you have dealt well with Jerub-Baal and his house, and have dealt with him ⌞according to his accomplishments⌟—
16 Agora, portanto, se agistes verdadeira e sinceramente ao constituírem Abimeleque rei, e se tratastes bem a Jerubaal e à sua casa, e lhe fizestes segundo o merecimento das suas mãos;
17 for my father fought and ⌞risked his life⌟ for you and delivered you from the hand of Midian;
17 (pois o meu pai lutou por vós, e longe arriscou a sua vida, e vos livrou da mão de Midiã;
18 but today you have risen against the house of my father and killed his sons, seventy men on one stone, and you have made Abimelech, the son of his slave woman, a king over the lords of Shechem, because he is your relative—
18 e vós vos levantastes contra a casa do meu pai neste dia, e assassinastes os seus filhos, setenta pessoas, sobre uma pedra, e fizestes de Abimeleque, o filho da sua serva, rei sobre os homens de Siquém, porque ele é vosso irmão).
19 if you have acted in good faith and sincerity with Jerub-Baal and his house this day, then rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you.
19 Se vós, então, tratastes verdadeira e sinceramente para com Jerubaal e a sua casa neste dia, então regozijai-vos em Abimeleque, e deixai-o também regozijar-se em vós;
20 But if not, let a fire come out from Abimelech and let it devour the lords of Shechem and Beth-Millo; and let a fire come out from the lords of Shechem, and from Beth-Millo, and let it devour Abimelech.”
20 mas se não, que o fogo saia de Abimeleque e devore os homens de Siquém, e a casa de Milo; e que o fogo saia dos homens de Siquém, e da casa de Milo, e devore Abimeleque.
21 And Jotham escaped and fled, and went to Beer; he remained there because of Abimelech his brother.
21 E Jotão correu para longe, e fugiu, e foi até Beer, e lá habitou, por temer Abimeleque, seu irmão.
22 Abimelech ruled over Israel three years.
22 Quando Abimeleque havia reinado três anos sobre Israel,
23 And God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the lords of Shechem, and the lords of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech,
23 Deus, então, enviou um espírito maligno entre Abimeleque e os homens de Siquém; e os homens de Siquém trataram Abimeleque traiçoeiramente;
24 so that the violence done to the seventy brothers of Abimelech would be avenged and their blood be placed on Abimelech their brother, who killed them, and on the lords of Shechem, ⌞who helped⌟ to kill his brothers.
24 para que a crueldade feita aos setenta filhos de Jerubaal pudesse vir, e o seu sangue fosse colocado sobre o irmão deles, Abimeleque, que os matou, e sobre os homens de Siquém, que o ajudaram na matança dos seus irmãos.
25 And the lords of Shechem set for him ambushes on the top of the mountains, and they robbed all who passed by them along the road; and it was reported to Abimelech.
25 E os homens de Siquém colocaram à sua espera, no cume dos montes, homens deitados; e eles roubavam todos os que passavam por eles naquele caminho; e isto foi dito a Abimeleque.
26 And Gaal son of Ebel and his relatives came, and they crossed over into Shechem, and the lords of Shechem ⌞gave him confidence⌟.
26 E Gaal, o filho de Ebede, veio com os seus irmãos, e atravessou para Siquém; e os homens de Siquém depositaram nele a sua confiança.
27 They went out into the field and harvested their vineyards and trod them, and they ⌞held a festival⌟. And they went into the temple of their god, and they ate and drank and cursed Abimelech.
27 E eles saíram para os campos, e colheram dos seus vinhedos, e pisotearam as uvas, e se alegraram, e entraram na casa do seu deus, e comeram e beberam, e amaldiçoaram Abimeleque.
28 Then Gaal son of Ebed said, “Who is Abimelech, and who are we of Shechem that we should serve him? Is he not the son of Jerub-Baal, and is not Zebul his chief officer? Serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem. Why should we serve him?
28 E Gaal, o filho de Ebede, disse: Quem é Abimeleque, e quem é Siquém, para que nós o sirvamos? Não é ele o filho de Jerubaal? E Zebul o seu oficial? Servi aos homens de Hamor, o pai de Siquém; afinal, porque nós deveríamos servi-lo?
29 If only this people ⌞were in my command⌟! Then I would remove Abimelech, and I would have said, ‘Increase your army and come out!’ ”
29 E, quisera Deus, este povo estivesse debaixo da minha mão! Eu, então, removeria Abimeleque. E ele disse a Abimeleque: Aumenta o teu exército, e sai.
30 When Zebul the commander of the city heard the words of Gaal son of Ebed, ⌞he became angry⌟,
30 E quando Zebul, o regente da cidade, ouviu as palavras de Gaal, o filho de Ebede, sua ira se acendeu.
31 and he sent messengers to Abimelech in Tormah, saying, “Look, Gaal son of Ebed and his relatives are coming to Shechem, and they are stirring up the city against you.
31 E ele enviou mensageiros até Abimeleque secretamente, dizendo: Eis que Gaal, filho de Ebede, e os seus irmãos vieram até Siquém; e eis que eles fortificam a cidade contra ti.
32 So then, get up by night, you and the army that is with you, and lie in ambush in the field.
32 Agora, portanto, levante-te à noite, tu e o povo que está contigo, e deitai-vos em espera no campo;
33 And in the morning at sunrise, get up and rush the city; and look, when he and the troops who are with him come out to you, ⌞you must act according to whatever opportunity offers itself⌟.
33 e será que, pela manhã, tão logo o sol se levante, tu te levantarás cedo, e te posicionarás sobre a cidade; e, eis que quando ele e o povo que está com ele saírem contra ti, poderás fazer a eles como achares ocasião.
34 So Abimelech and all the army that was with him got up by night, and they lay in ambush against Shechem in four divisions.
34 E Abimeleque se levantou, e todo o povo que estava com ele, à noite, e eles lançaram-se em espera contra Siquém em quatro companhias.
35 Gaal son of Ebed went out and stood at the entrance of the city gate, and Abimelech and the army that was with him got up from the ambush.
35 E Gaal, o filho de Ebede, saiu, e se pôs de pé na entrada do portão da cidade; e Abimeleque e o povo que estava com ele se levantaram da posição deitada, em espera.
36 When Gaal saw the army, he said to Zebul, “Look, people are coming down from the top of the mountains!” And Zebul said to him, “⌞The shadows of the mountains look like people to you⌟.”
36 E quando Gaal viu o povo, disse a Zebul: Eis que descem pessoas do cume dos montes. E Zebul lhe disse: Tu vês a sombra dos montes como se fossem homens.
37 ⌞And Gaal spoke again⌟ and said, “Look, people are coming down from Tabbur-erez, and one division is coming from the direction of Elon-meonenim.”
37 E Gaal falou novamente e disse: Vê, de lá descem pessoas pelo meio da terra, e uma outra companhia vem chegando pela planície de Meonenim.
38 And Zebul said to him, “Where then ⌞is your boast⌟, you who said, ‘Who is Abimelech that we should serve him?’ Is this not the army that you rejected? Please, go out now and fight against them.”
38 Então, disse-lhe Zebul: Onde está agora a tua boca, com a qual disseste: Quem é Abimeleque, para que devamos servi-lo? Não é este o povo que tu desprezaste? Sai, rogo-te agora, e luta contra eles.
39 So Gaal went out before the lords of Shechem and fought against Abimelech.
39 E Gaal saiu diante dos homens de Siquém, e lutou contra Abimeleque.
40 And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him; many fell slain up to the entrance of the gate.
40 E Abimeleque o perseguiu, e ele fugiu de diante dele, e muitos foram derrubados e feridos até a entrada do portão.
41 So Abimelech resided at Arumah, and Zebul drove out Gaal and his relatives from living in Shechem.
41 E Abimeleque habitou em Arumá; e Zebul expulsou Gaal e os seus irmãos, para que não habitassem em Siquém.
42 On the next day the people went out to the field; and it was reported to Abimelech,
42 E sucedeu que, pela manhã, o povo saiu para o campo; e Abimeleque foi informado.
43 so he took the army and divided them into three divisions, and he laid an ambush in the field. And he saw the people were coming out from the city, and he arose against them and killed them.
43 E ele tomou o povo, e o dividiu em três companhias, e deitaram em espera no campo, e observou, e eis que o povo havia saído da cidade; e ele se levantou contra eles, e os feriu.
44 Then Abimelech and the divisions that were with him dashed out and stood at the entrance of the city gate, and the two divisions dashed out against all who were in the field, and they killed them.
44 E Abimeleque, e a companhia que estava com ele, precipitou-se para a frente, e se pôs de pé na entrada do portão da cidade; e as duas outras companhias avançaram sobre todo o povo que estava nos campos, e os matou.
45 Abimelech fought against the city all that day, and he captured the city and killed the people that were in it; then he broke down the city and sowed it with salt.
45 E Abimeleque lutou contra a cidade durante aquele dia inteiro; e ele tomou a cidade, e matou o povo que nela estava, e demoliu a cidade, e a semeou com sal.
46 When all the lords of the tower of Shechem heard, they went to the vault of the temple of El-Berith.
46 E quando todos os homens da torre de Siquém ouviram aquilo, eles entraram em um porão da casa do deus Berite.
47 It was told to Abimelech that all the lords of the tower of Shechem had gathered.
47 E foi dito a Abimeleque que todos os homens da torre de Siquém estavam reunidos.
48 So Abimelech went up Mount Zalmon, he and all his army that were with him, and Abimelech took the ax in his hand and cut down a bundle of brushwood, and he lifted it and put it on his shoulder. And he said to the army that was with him, “What you have seen me do, quickly do also.”
48 E Abimeleque subiu o monte Salmom, ele e todo o povo que estava com ele; e Abimeleque pegou um machado na sua mão, e cortou um galho das árvores, e o pegou, e o colocou sobre o seu ombro, e disse ao povo que estava com ele: O que me vistes fazer, apressai-vos, e fazei tal como fiz.
49 So the whole army cut down each one branch for himself and followed Abimelech, and they put them against the vault and set the vault ablaze with fire on those inside, so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died, about a thousand men and women.
49 E, de modo semelhante, todo o povo, cada qual, cortou o seu galho, e seguiu Abimeleque, e os colocaram no porão, e atearam fogo sobre eles no porão; de modo que todos os homens da torre de Siquém também morreram, cerca de mil homens e mulheres.
50 Then Abimelech went to Thebez, and he encamped against Thebez and captured it.
50 Então Abimeleque foi a Tebes, e acampou contra Tebes, e a tomou.
51 But there was a strong tower in the middle of the city, and all the men, women, and lords of the city fled there and shut themselves in; and they went up to the roof of the tower.
51 Havia, porém, uma torre forte dentro da cidade, e para lá fugiram todos os homens e mulheres, e todos os da cidade, e a trancaram para eles, e os fizeram subir até o topo da torre.
52 Abimelech came up to the tower and fought against it, and he came near the entrance of the tower to burn it with fire.
52 E Abimeleque veio até a torre, e lutou contra ela, e investiu fortemente contra a porta da torre para incendiá-la com fogo.
53 But a certain woman threw an upper millstone on Abimelech’s head and cracked open his skull.
53 E uma certa mulher atirou um pedaço de mó sobre a cabeça de Abimeleque, e o seu crânio se quebrou.
54 He called quickly to the young man carrying his weapons, and he said to him, “Draw your sword and kill me, so that they will not say of me, ‘A woman killed him.’ ” So the young man stabbed him, and he died.
54 Então, ele chamou apressadamente o seu moço, o escudeiro, e lhe disse: Desembainha a tua espada, e me mata, para que os homens não o digam: Uma mulher o matou. E o seu moço o atravessou, e ele morreu.
55 When the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, each one went to his home.
55 E quando os homens de Israel viram que Abimeleque estava morto, partiram, cada qual, para o seu lugar.
56 So God repaid the wickedness that Abimelech committed against his father by killing his seventy brothers.
56 Assim Deus retribuiu a impiedade de Abimeleque, a qual ele fez ao seu pai, ao matar os seus setenta irmãos;
57 And God also repaid all the wickedness of the men of Shechem on their heads, and the curse of Jotham son of Jerub-Baal fell on them.
57 e todo o mal dos homens de Siquém Deus retribuiu sobre as suas cabeças; e sobre eles veio a maldição de Jotão, o filho de Jerubaal.
