1 The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh when King Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur, the son of Malchiah, and Zephaniah, the son of Maaseiah, the priest, ⌞saying⌟,
1 Palavra que veio a Jeremias da parte do Senhor , quando o rei Zedequias lhe enviou Pasur, filho de Malquias, e o sacerdote Sofonias, filho de Maaseias, dizendo:
2 “Please inquire of Yahweh on behalf of us, for Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon is fighting against us. Perhaps Yahweh will do with us according to all his miraculous acts, so that he may go up from against us.”
2 Pergunta agora por nós ao Senhor , por que Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, guerreia contra nós; bem pode ser que o Senhor nos trate segundo todas as suas maravilhas e o faça retirar-se de nós.
3 Then Jeremiah said to them, “Thus you shall say to Zedekiah:
3 Então, Jeremias lhes disse: Assim direis a Zedequias:
4 ‘Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: “Look, I am about to turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, with which you are fighting against them, the king of Babylon and the Chaldeans who are laying siege to you from outside the wall, and I will gather them into the center of this city.
4 Assim diz o Senhor , o Deus de Israel: Eis que farei retroceder as armas de guerra que estão nas vossas mãos, com que vós pelejais fora dos muros contra o rei da Babilônia e contra os caldeus, que vos oprimem; tais armas, eu as ajuntarei no meio desta cidade.
5 And I myself will fight against you with outstretched hand, and with strong arm, and in ⌞anger⌟, and in fury, and in great wrath.
5 Pelejarei eu mesmo contra vós outros com braço estendido e mão poderosa, com ira, com indignação e grande furor.
6 And I will strike the inhabitants of this city, both humankind and animal; by a great plague they will die.
6 Ferirei os habitantes desta cidade, tanto os homens como os animais; de grande pestilência morrerão.
7 And ⌞afterward⌟,” ⌞declares⌟ Yahweh, “I will give Zedekiah, the king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and those who remain in this city from the plague, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their lives, and he will strike them with the ⌞edge⌟ of the sword. He will not take pity on them, and he will not have compassion, nor will he show compassion.” ’
7 Depois disto, diz o Senhor , entregarei Zedequias, rei de Judá, e seus servos, e o povo, e quantos desta cidade restarem da pestilência, da espada e da fome na mão de Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, na de seus inimigos e na dos que procuram tirar-lhes a vida; feri-los-á a fio de espada; não os poupará, não se compadecerá, nem terá misericórdia.
8 “And to this people you shall say, ‘Thus says Yahweh, “Look, I am setting ⌞before you⌟ the way of life and the way of death.
8 A este povo dirás: Assim diz o Senhor : Eis que ponho diante de vós o caminho da vida e o caminho da morte.
9 He who stays in this city will die by the sword, or by the famine, or by the plague. And he who goes out and goes over to the Chaldeans who are laying siege to you will live, and his life will be to him as booty.
9 O que ficar nesta cidade há de morrer à espada, ou à fome, ou de peste; mas o que sair e render-se aos caldeus, que vos cercam, viverá, e a vida lhe será como despojo.
10 For I have set my face against this city for evil and not for good,” ⌞declares⌟ Yahweh. It will be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it with fire.” ’
10 Pois voltei o rosto contra esta cidade, para mal e não para bem, diz o Senhor ; ela será entregue nas mãos do rei da Babilônia, e este a queimará.
11 “And to the house of the king of Judah, ‘Hear the word of Yahweh,
11 À casa do rei de Judá dirás: Ouvi a palavra do Senhor !
12 O house of David, thus says Yahweh, “Execute judgment in the morning, justice, and deliver the one who has been seized from the hand of the oppressor, lest my wrath goes forth like the fire and it burns, and there is no one who quenches it because of the evil of your deeds.
12 Ó casa de Davi, assim diz o Senhor : Julgai pela manhã justamente e livrai o oprimido das mãos do opressor; para que não seja o meu furor como fogo e se acenda, sem que haja quem o apague, por causa da maldade das vossas ações.
13 Look, I am against you, O inhabitants of the valley, O rock of the plain,” ⌞declares⌟ Yahweh; “you who say, ‘Who can descend against us, or who can enter into our hiding place?’
13 Eis que eu sou contra ti, ó Moradora do vale, ó Rocha da campina, diz o Senhor ; contra vós outros que dizeis: Quem descerá contra nós? Ou: Quem entrará nas nossas moradas?
14 And I will punish you according to the fruit of your deeds,” ⌞declares⌟ Yahweh, “And I will kindle a fire in its forest, and it will devour all its surroundings.” ’ ”
14 Castigar-vos-ei segundo o fruto das vossas ações, diz o Senhor ; acenderei fogo na cidade, qual bosque, o qual devorará todos os seus arredores.
