1 AND when he drew nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, to the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
1 Quando já se aproximavam de Jerusalém, Jesus e seus discípulos chegaram às cidades de Betfagé e Betânia, no monte das Oliveiras. Jesus enviou na frente dois discípulos.
2 and saith unto them, Go into the village opposite to you: and immediately as you enter it, you will find a foal tied, on which no man yet hath rode; loose him, and bring him hither.
2 “Vão àquele povoado adiante”, disse ele. “Assim que entrarem, verão amarrado ali um jumentinho, no qual ninguém jamais montou. Desamarrem-no e tragam-no para cá.
3 And if any man say to you, Why do ye this? say, That the Lord hath need of it; and immediately he will send it hither.
3 Se alguém lhes perguntar: ‘O que estão fazendo?’, digam apenas: ‘O Senhor precisa dele e o devolverá em breve’.”
4 And they went, and found the foal tied to a gate without, where two ways met; and they untie him.
4 Os dois discípulos foram e encontraram o jumentinho na rua, amarrado junto a uma porta.
5 Then some of those who stood by, said unto them, What are ye about, untying the colt?
5 Enquanto o desamarravam, algumas pessoas que estavam ali perguntaram: “O que vocês estão fazendo, desamarrando esse jumentinho?”.
6 Then they said unto them, as Jesus commanded them: and they permitted them to do it.
6 Responderam conforme Jesus havia instruído, e os deixaram levar o animal.
7 And they brought the colt to Jesus, and put on him their garments; and he rode upon it.
7 Os discípulos trouxeram o jumentinho, puseram seus mantos sobre o animal, e Jesus montou nele.
8 And multitudes spread their garments on the road: and others cut off boughs from the trees, and strewed them on the road.
8 Muitos da multidão espalharam seus mantos ao longo do caminho diante de Jesus, e outros espalharam ramos que haviam cortado nos campos.
9 And they who went before, and who followed after, cried, saying, Hosanna: blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
9 E as pessoas, tanto as que iam à frente como as que o seguiam, gritavam: “Hosana! Bendito é o que vem em nome do Senhor!
10 Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that is coming in the name of the Lord: hosanna in the highest.
10 Bendito é o reino que vem, o reino de nosso antepassado Davi! Hosana no mais alto céu!”.
11 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and looking round about upon all things, it being now even-tide, he departed to Bethany with the twelve.
11 Jesus entrou em Jerusalém e foi ao templo. Depois de olhar tudo ao redor atentamente, voltou a Betânia com os Doze, porque já era tarde.
12 And on the morrow, as they were coming out of Bethany, he was hungry:
12 Na manhã seguinte, quando saíam de Betânia, Jesus teve fome.
13 and seeing a fig-tree at a distance, full of leaves, he went to it, expecting probably that he might find some fruit upon it: and when he came to it, he found none, only leaves: for it was not a good season for figs.
13 Viu que, a certa distância, havia uma figueira cheia de folhas e foi ver se encontraria figos. No entanto, só havia folhas, pois ainda não era tempo de dar frutos.
14 And Jesus spake and said to it, Let no man eat fruit from thee henceforth for ever. And his disciples heard him.
14 Então Jesus disse à árvore: “Nunca mais comam de seu fruto!”. E os discípulos ouviram o que ele disse.
15 And they came to Jerusalem and Jesus entered into the temple, and began to cast out those who sold and bought in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of those who sold doves;
15 Quando voltaram a Jerusalém, Jesus entrou no templo e começou a expulsar os que compravam e vendiam animais para os sacrifícios. Derrubou as mesas dos cambistas e as cadeiras dos que vendiam pombas,
16 and would not suffer that any person should carry a vessel through the temple.
16 impediu todos de usarem o templo como mercado
17 And he taught them, saying, Is it not written, that “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations?” but ye have made it a den of thieves.
17 e os ensinava, dizendo: “As Escrituras declaram: ‘Meu templo será chamado casa de oração para todas as nações’, mas vocês o transformaram num esconderijo de ladrões!”.
18 And the scribes and chief priests heard him, and sought how they might destroy him: for they were afraid of him, because all the people were exceedingly struck with his teaching,
18 Quando os principais sacerdotes e mestres da lei souberam o que Jesus tinha feito, começaram a tramar um modo de matá-lo. Contudo, tinham medo dele, pois o povo estava muito admirado com seu ensino.
19 And when the evening came, he went away out of the city.
19 Ao entardecer, Jesus e seus discípulos saíram da cidade.
20 And in the morning, as they were passing by, they saw the fig-tree withered from the roots.
20 Na manhã seguinte, quando os discípulos passaram pela figueira que Jesus tinha amaldiçoado, notaram que ela estava seca desde a raiz.
21 And Peter reminding him said, Rabbi, behold, the fig-tree which thou cursedst is withered away.
21 Pedro se lembrou do que Jesus tinha dito à árvore e exclamou: “Veja, Rabi! A figueira que o senhor amaldiçoou secou!”.
22 And Jesus answering said to them, Have faith in God.
22 Então Jesus disse aos discípulos: “Tenham fé em Deus.
23 For verily I say to you, That whosoever shall say to this mountain, Be thou lifted up, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall harbour no doubt in his heart, but believe that what he saith shall come to pass; whatsoever he may speak shall be done for him.
23 Eu lhes digo a verdade: vocês poderão dizer a este monte: ‘Levante-se e atire-se no mar’, e isso acontecerá. É preciso, no entanto, crer que acontecerá, e não ter nenhuma dúvida em seu coração.
24 Therefore I say unto you, That all things whatever ye ask in prayer, believe that ye shall receive them, and they shall be given you.
24 Digo-lhes que, se crerem que já receberam, qualquer coisa que pedirem em oração lhes será concedido.
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have a matter against any man: that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
25 Quando estiverem orando, se tiverem alguma coisa contra alguém, perdoem-no, para que seu Pai no céu também perdoe seus pecados.
26 But if ye forgive not, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
26 Mas, se vocês se recusarem a perdoar, seu Pai no céu não perdoará seus pecados”.
27 And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders, come to him,
27 Mais uma vez, voltaram a Jerusalém. Enquanto Jesus passava pelo templo, os principais sacerdotes, os mestres da lei e os líderes do povo vieram até ele
28 and say to him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority, that thou shouldest do these things?
28 e perguntaram: “Com que autoridade você faz essas coisas? Quem lhe deu esse direito?”.
29 Then Jesus answering said unto them, I also will ask you one question; and answer me; and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
29 Jesus respondeu: “Eu lhes direi com que autoridade faço essas coisas se vocês responderem a uma pergunta:
30 The baptism of John, was it of heaven, or of men? answer me.
30 A autoridade de João para batizar vinha do céu ou era apenas humana? Respondam-me!”.
31 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we reply, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?
31 Eles discutiram a questão entre si: “Se dissermos que vinha do céu, ele perguntará por que não cremos em João.
32 but if we say of men―they feared the people: for all men held John to be in truth a prophet.
32 Mas será que ousamos dizer que era apenas humana?”. Tinham medo do que o povo faria, pois todos acreditavam que João era profeta.
33 And they answering said to Jesus, We do not know. And Jesus in reply said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
33 Por fim, responderam: “Não sabemos”. E Jesus replicou: “Então eu também não direi com que autoridade faço essas coisas”.
