¹ And a certain man, Ananias by name, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

¹ Entretanto, certo homem, chamado Ananias, com sua mulher Safira, vendeu uma propriedade,

² and did keep back of the price -- his wife also knowing -- and having brought a certain part, at the feet of the apostles he laid it.

² mas, em acordo com sua mulher, reteve parte do preço e, levando o restante, depositou-o aos pés dos apóstolos.

³ And Peter said, 'Ananias, therefore did the Adversary fill your heart, for you to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back of the price of the place?

³ Então, disse Pedro: Ananias, por que encheu Satanás teu coração, para que mentisses ao Espírito Santo, reservando parte do valor do campo?

⁴ while it remained, did it not remain yours? and having been sold, in your authority was it not? why is it that you did put in your heart this thing? you did not lie to men, but to God;'

⁴ Conservando-o, porventura, não seria teu? E, vendido, não estaria em teu poder? Como, pois, assentaste no coração este desígnio? Não mentiste aos homens, mas a Deus.

⁵ and Ananias hearing these words, having fallen down, did expire, and great fear came upon all who heard these things,

⁵ Ouvindo estas palavras, Ananias caiu e expirou, sobrevindo grande temor a todos os ouvintes.

⁶ and having risen, the younger men wound him up, and having carried forth, they buried him.

⁶ Levantando-se os moços, cobriram-lhe o corpo e, levando-o, o sepultaram.

⁷ And it came to pass, about three hours after, that his wife, not knowing what has happened, came in,

⁷ Quase três horas depois, entrou a mulher de Ananias, não sabendo o que ocorrera.

⁸ and Peter answered her, 'Tell me if for so much you sold the place;' and she said, 'Yes, for so much.'

⁸ Então, Pedro, dirigindo-se a ela, perguntou-lhe: Dize-me, vendestes por tanto aquela terra? Ela respondeu: Sim, por tanto.

⁹ And Peter said unto her, 'How was it agreed by you, to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? lo, the feet of those who did bury your husband are at the door, and they shall carry you forth;'

⁹ Tornou-lhe Pedro: Por que entrastes em acordo para tentar o Espírito do Senhor? Eis aí à porta os pés dos que sepultaram o teu marido, e eles também te levarão.

¹⁰ and she fell down presently at his feet, and expired, and the young men having come in, found her dead, and having carried forth, they buried her by her husband;

¹⁰ No mesmo instante, caiu ela aos pés de Pedro e expirou. Entrando os moços, acharam-na morta e, levando-a, sepultaram-na junto do marido.

¹¹ and great fear came upon all the assembly, and upon all who heard these things.

¹¹ E sobreveio grande temor a toda a igreja e a todos quantos ouviram a notícia destes acontecimentos.

¹² And through the hands of the apostles came many signs and wonders among the people, and they were with one accord all in the porch of Solomon;

¹² Muitos sinais e prodígios eram feitos entre o povo pelas mãos dos apóstolos. E costumavam todos reunir-se, de comum acordo, no Pórtico de Salomão.

¹³ and of the rest no one was daring to join himself to them, but the people were magnifying them,

¹³ Mas, dos restantes, ninguém ousava ajuntar-se a eles; porém o povo lhes tributava grande admiração.

¹⁴ (and the more were believers added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women,)

¹⁴ E crescia mais e mais a multidão de crentes, tanto homens como mulheres, agregados ao Senhor,

¹⁵ so as into the broad places to bring forth the ailing, and to lay them upon couches and mats, that at the coming of Peter, even his shadow might overshadow some one of them;

¹⁵ a ponto de levarem os enfermos até pelas ruas e os colocarem sobre leitos e macas, para que, ao passar Pedro, ao menos a sua sombra se projetasse nalguns deles.

¹⁶ and there were coming together also the people of the cities round about to Jerusalem, bearing ailing persons, and those harassed by unclean spirits -- who were all healed.

¹⁶ Afluía também muita gente das cidades vizinhas a Jerusalém, levando doentes e atormentados de espíritos imundos, e todos eram curados.

¹⁷ And having risen, the chief priest, and all those with him -- being the sect of the Sadducees -- were filled with zeal,

¹⁷ Levantando-se, porém, o sumo sacerdote e todos os que estavam com ele, isto é, a seita dos saduceus, tomaram-se de inveja,

¹⁸ and laid their hands upon the apostles, and did put them in a public prison;

¹⁸ prenderam os apóstolos e os recolheram à prisão pública.

¹⁹ and a messenger of the Lord through the night opened the doors of the prison, having also brought them forth, he said,

¹⁹ Mas, de noite, um anjo do Senhor abriu as portas do cárcere e, conduzindo-os para fora, lhes disse:

²⁰ 'Go on, and standing, speak in the temple to the people all the sayings of this life;'

²⁰ Ide e, apresentando-vos no templo, dizei ao povo todas as palavras desta Vida.

²¹ and having heard, they did enter at the dawn into the temple, and were teaching. And the chief priest having come, and those with him, they called together the sanhedrin and all the senate of the sons of Israel, and they sent to the prison to have them brought,

²¹ Tendo ouvido isto, logo ao romper do dia, entraram no templo e ensinavam. Chegando, porém, o sumo sacerdote e os que com ele estavam, convocaram o Sinédrio e todo o senado dos filhos de Israel e mandaram buscá-los no cárcere.

²² and the officers having come, did not find them in the prison, and having turned back, they told,

²² Mas os guardas, indo, não os acharam no cárcere; e, tendo voltado, relataram,

²³ saying -- 'The prison indeed we found shut in all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors, and having opened -- within we found no one.'

²³ dizendo: Achamos o cárcere fechado com toda a segurança e as sentinelas nos seus postos junto às portas; mas, abrindo-as, a ninguém encontramos dentro.

²⁴ And as the priest, and the magistrate of the temple, and the chief priests, heard these words, they were doubting concerning them to what this would come;

²⁴ Quando o capitão do templo e os principais sacerdotes ouviram estas informações, ficaram perplexos a respeito deles e do que viria a ser isto.

²⁵ and coming near, a certain one told them, saying -- 'Lo, the men whom you did put in the prison are in the temple standing and teaching the people;'

²⁵ Nesse ínterim, alguém chegou e lhes comunicou: Eis que os homens que recolhestes no cárcere, estão no templo ensinando o povo.

²⁶ then the magistrate having gone away with officers, brought them without violence, for they were fearing the people, lest they should be stoned;

²⁶ Nisto, indo o capitão e os guardas, os trouxeram sem violência, porque temiam ser apedrejados pelo povo.

²⁷ and having brought them, they set them in the sanhedrin, and the chief priest questioned them,

²⁷ Trouxeram-nos, apresentando-os ao Sinédrio. E o sumo sacerdote interrogou-os,

²⁸ saying, 'Did not we strictly command you not to teach in this name? and lo, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring upon us the blood of this man.'

²⁸ dizendo: Expressamente vos ordenamos que não ensinásseis nesse nome; contudo, enchestes Jerusalém de vossa doutrina; e quereis lançar sobre nós o sangue desse homem.

²⁹ And Peter and the apostles answering, said, 'To obey God it behooves, rather than men;

²⁹ Então, Pedro e os demais apóstolos afirmaram: Antes, importa obedecer a Deus do que aos homens.

³⁰ and the God of our fathers did raise up Jesus, whom you slew, having hanged upon a tree;

³⁰ O Deus de nossos pais ressuscitou a Jesus, a quem vós matastes, pendurando-o num madeiro.

³¹ this one God, a Prince and a Saviour, has exalted with His right hand, to give reformation to Israel, and forgiveness of sins;

³¹ Deus, porém, com a sua destra, o exaltou a Príncipe e Salvador, a fim de conceder a Israel o arrependimento e a remissão de pecados.

³² and we are His witnesses of these sayings, and the Holy Spirit also, whom God gave to those obeying him.'

³² Ora, nós somos testemunhas destes fatos, e bem assim o Espírito Santo, que Deus outorgou aos que lhe obedecem.

³³ And they having heard, were cut to the heart, and were taking counsel to slay them,

³³ Eles, porém, ouvindo, se enfureceram e queriam matá-los.

³⁴ but a certain one, having risen up in the sanhedrin -- a Pharisee, by name Gamaliel, a teacher of law honoured by all the people -- commanded to put the apostles forth a little,

³⁴ Mas, levantando-se no Sinédrio um fariseu, chamado Gamaliel, mestre da lei, acatado por todo o povo, mandou retirar os homens, por um pouco,

³⁵ and said unto them, 'Men, Israelites, take heed to yourselves about these men, what you are about to do,

³⁵ e lhes disse: Israelitas, atentai bem no que ides fazer a estes homens.

³⁶ for before these days rose up Theudas, saying, that himself was some one, to whom a number of men did join themselves, as it were four hundred, who was slain, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered, and came to nought.

³⁶ Porque, antes destes dias, se levantou Teudas, insinuando ser ele alguma coisa, ao qual se agregaram cerca de quatrocentos homens; mas ele foi morto, e todos quantos lhe prestavam obediência se dispersaram e deram em nada.

³⁷ 'After this one rose up, Judas the Galilean, in the days of the enrollment, and drew away much people after him, and that one perished, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered;

³⁷ Depois desse, levantou-se Judas, o galileu, nos dias do recenseamento, e levou muitos consigo; também este pereceu, e todos quantos lhe obedeciam foram dispersos.

³⁸ and now I say to you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone, because if this counsel or this work may be of men, it will be overthrown,

³⁸ Agora, vos digo: dai de mão a estes homens, deixai-os; porque, se este conselho ou esta obra vem de homens, perecerá;

³⁹ and if it be of God, you are not able to overthrow it, lest perhaps also you be found fighting against God.'

³⁹ mas, se é de Deus, não podereis destruí-los, para que não sejais, porventura, achados lutando contra Deus. E concordaram com ele.

⁴⁰ And to him they agreed, and having called near the apostles, having beaten them, they commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go;

⁴⁰ Chamando os apóstolos, açoitaram-nos e, ordenando-lhes que não falassem em o nome de Jesus, os soltaram.

⁴¹ they, indeed, then, departed from the presence of the sanhedrin, rejoicing that for his name they were counted worthy to suffer dishonour,

⁴¹ E eles se retiraram do Sinédrio regozijando-se por terem sido considerados dignos de sofrer afrontas por esse Nome.

⁴² every day also in the temple, and in every house, they were not ceasing teaching and proclaiming good news -- Jesus the Christ.

⁴² E todos os dias, no templo e de casa em casa, não cessavam de ensinar e de pregar Jesus, o Cristo.
