1 Therefore no longer forbearing, we thought good to be left in Athens alone,
1 Assim, não podendo mais esperar, resolvemos ficar sozinhos em Atenas,
2 and did send Timothy -- our brother, and a ministrant of God, and our fellow-workman in the good news of the Christ -- to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith,
2 e enviar-vos Timóteo, nosso irmão e ministro de Deus no Evangelho de Cristo. Ele tem a missão de vos fortalecer e encorajar na vossa fé,
3 that no one be moved in these tribulations, for yourselves have known that for this we are set,
3 a fim de que, em meio às presentes tribulações, ninguém se amedronte. Vós mesmos sabeis que esta é a nossa sorte.
4 for even when we were with you, we said to you beforehand, that we are about to suffer tribulation, as also it did come to pass, and you have known it;
4 Estando ainda convosco, vos predizíamos que haveríamos de padecer tribulações. É o que aconteceu e estais sabendo.
5 because of this also, I, no longer forbearing, did send to know your faith, lest he who is tempting did tempt you, and in vain might be our labour.
5 É este o motivo por que, não podendo mais suportar a demora, mandei colher informações a respeito da vossa fé, pois receava que o tentador vos tivesse seduzido e resultasse em nada o nosso trabalho.
6 And now Timothy having come unto us from you, and having declared good news to us of your faith and love, and that you have a good remembrance of us always, desiring much to see us, as we also to see you,
6 Mas, agora, Timóteo acaba de voltar da visita que vos fez, trazendo excelentes notícias da vossa fé e caridade. Ele nos falou da afetuosa lembrança que de nós sempre guardais e do desejo que tendes de nos rever, desejo que é também nosso.
7 because of this we were comforted, brethren, over you, in all our tribulation and necessity, through your faith,
7 Assim, irmãos, fomos consolados por vós, no meio de todas as nossas angústias e tribulações, em virtude da vossa fé.
8 because now we live, if you may stand fast in the Lord;
8 Agora, sim, tornamos a viver, porque permaneceis firmes no Senhor.
9 for what thanks are we able to recompense to God for you, for all the joy with which we do joy because of you in the presence of our God?
9 E como poderíamos agradecer a Deus por vós, por toda a alegria que tivemos diante dele por vossa causa?!
10 night and day exceedingly beseeching, that we might see your face, and perfect the things lacking in your faith.
10 Noite e dia, com intenso, extremo fervor, oramos para que nos seja dado ver novamente a vossa face e completar o que ainda falta à vossa fé.
11 And our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you,
11 Que Deus, nosso Pai, e nosso Senhor Jesus nos preparem o caminho até vós!
12 and you the Lord cause to increase and to abound in the love to one another, and to all, even as we also to you,
12 Que o Senhor vos faça crescer e avantajar na caridade mútua e para com todos os homens, como é o nosso amor para convosco.
13 to the establishing your hearts blameless in sanctification before our God and Father, in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.
13 Que ele confirme os vossos corações, e os torne irrepreensíveis e santos na presença de Deus, nosso Pai, por ocasião da vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus com todos os seus santos!
