1 How the gold has grown dim, how the pure gold is changed! The holy stones lie scattered at the head of every street.
1 Como o ouro perdeu o brilho! Como o ouro fino ficou embaçado! As pedras sagradas estão espalhadas pelas esquinas de todas as ruas.
2 The precious sons of Zion, worth their weight in fine gold, how they are reckoned as earthen pots, the work of a potter's hands!
2 Como os preciosos filhos de Sião, que antes valiam seu peso em ouro, hoje são considerados como vasos de barro, obra das mãos de um oleiro!
3 Even the jackals give the breast and suckle their young, but the daughter of my people has become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.
3 Até os chacais oferecem o peito para amamentar os seus filhotes, mas o meu povo não tem mais coração; é como as avestruzes do deserto.
4 The tongue of the nursling cleaves to the roof of its mouth for thirst; the children beg for food, but no one gives to them.
4 De tanta sede, a língua dos bebês gruda no céu da boca; as crianças imploram pelo pão, mas ninguém as atende.
5 Those who feasted on dainties perish in the streets; those who were brought up in purple lie on ash heaps.
5 Aqueles que costumavam comer comidas finas passam necessidades nas ruas. Aqueles que se adornavam de púrpura hoje estão prostrados sobre montes de cinza.
6 For the chastisement of the daughter of my people has been greater than the punishment of Sodom, which was overthrown in a moment, no hand being laid on it.
6 A punição do meu povo é maior que a de Sodoma, que foi destruída num instante sem que ninguém a socorresse.
7 Her princes were purer than snow, whiter than milk; their bodies were more ruddy than coral, the beauty of their form was like sapphire.
7 Seus príncipes eram mais brilhantes que a neve e mais brancos do que o leite, tinham a pele mais rosada que rubis; sua aparência lembrava safiras.
8 Now their visage is blacker than soot, they are not recognized in the streets; their skin has shriveled upon their bones, it has become as dry as wood.
8 Mas agora estão mais negros do que o carvão; não são reconhecidos nas ruas. Sua pele enrugou-se sobre os seus ossos; parecem agora madeira seca.
9 Happier were the victims of the sword than the victims of hunger, who pined away, stricken by want of the fruits of the field.
9 Os que foram mortos pela espada estão melhor do que os que morrem de fome, os quais, torturados pela fome, definham pela falta de produção das lavouras.
10 The hands of compassionate women have boiled their own children; they became their food in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
10 Com as próprias mãos, mulheres bondosas cozinharam os próprios filhos, que se tornaram a sua comida quando o meu povo foi destruído.
11 The LORD gave full vent to his wrath, he poured out his hot anger; and he kindled a fire in Zion, which consumed its foundations.
11 O Senhor deu vazão total à sua ira; derramou a sua grande fúria. Ele acendeu em Sião um fogo que consumiu os seus alicerces.
12 The kings of the earth did not believe, or any of the inhabitants of the world, that foe or enemy could enter the gates of Jerusalem.
12 Os reis da terra e os povos de todo o mundo, não acreditavam que os inimigos e os adversários pudessem entrar pelas portas de Jerusalém.
13 This was for the sins of her prophets and the iniquities of her priests, who shed in the midst of her the blood of the righteous.
13 Dentro da cidade foi derramado o sangue dos justos por causa do pecado dos seus profetas e das maldades dos seus sacerdotes.
14 They wandered, blind, through the streets, so defiled with blood that none could touch their garments.
14 Hoje eles tateiam pelas ruas como cegos, e tão sujos de sangue estão, que ninguém ousa tocar em suas vestes.
15 "Away! Unclean!" men cried at them; "Away! Away! Touch not!" So they became fugitives and wanderers; men said among the nations, "They shall stay with us no longer."
15 "Vocês estão imundos! ", o povo grita para eles. "Afastem-se! Não nos toquem! " Quando eles fogem e ficam vagando, os povos das outras nações dizem: "Aqui eles não podem habitar".
16 The LORD himself has scattered them, he will regard them no more; no honor was shown to the priests, no favor to the elders.
16 O próprio Senhor os espalhou; ele já não cuida deles. Ninguém honra os sacerdotes nem respeita os líderes.
17 Our eyes failed, ever watching vainly for help; in our watching we watched for a nation which could not save.
17 Nossos olhos estão cansados de buscar ajuda em vão; de nossas torres buscávamos uma nação que não podia salvar-nos.
18 Men dogged our steps so that we could not walk in our streets; our end drew near; our days were numbered; for our end had come.
18 Cada passo nosso era vigiado, de forma que não podíamos caminhar por nossas ruas. Nosso fim estava próximo, nossos dias estavam contados; o nosso fim já havia chegado.
19 Our pursuers were swifter than the vultures in the heavens; they chased us on the mountains, they lay in wait for us in the wilderness.
19 Nossos perseguidores eram mais velozes do que águias nos céus; perseguiam-nos por sobre as montanhas, ficavam de tocaia contra nós no deserto.
20 The breath of our nostrils, the LORD's anointed, was taken in their pits, he of whom we said, "Under his shadow we shall live among the nations."
20 O ungido do Senhor, o próprio fôlego da nossa vida, foi capturado em suas armadilhas. E nós que pensávamos que sob a sua sombra viveríamos entre as nações!
21 Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, dweller in the land of Uz; but to you also the cup shall pass; you shall become drunk and strip yourself bare.
21 Alegre-se e exulte, ó terra de Edom, você que vive na terra de Uz. Mas a você também será servido o cálice: você será embriagada e as suas roupas serão arrancadas.
22 The punishment of your iniquity, O daughter of Zion, is accomplished, he will keep you in exile no longer; but your iniquity, O daughter of Edom, he will punish, he will uncover your sins.
22 Ó cidade de Sião, o seu castigo terminará; o Senhor não prolongará o seu exílio. Mas, ó terra de Edom, ele punirá o seu pecado e porá à mostra a sua perversidade.
