1 The oracle of God which Habak'kuk the prophet saw.
1 Sentença revelada ao profeta Habacuque.
2 O LORD, how long shall I cry for help, and thou wilt not hear? Or cry to thee "Violence!" and thou wilt not save?
2 Até quando, Senhor , clamarei eu, e tu não me escutarás? Gritar-te-ei: Violência! E não salvarás?
3 Why dost thou make me see wrongs and look upon trouble? Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise.
3 Por que me mostras a iniquidade e me fazes ver a opressão? Pois a destruição e a violência estão diante de mim; há contendas, e o litígio se suscita.
4 So the law is slacked and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous, so justice goes forth perverted.
4 Por esta causa, a lei se afrouxa, e a justiça nunca se manifesta, porque o perverso cerca o justo, a justiça é torcida.
5 Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told.
5 Vede entre as nações, olhai, maravilhai-vos e desvanecei, porque realizo, em vossos dias, obra tal, que vós não crereis, quando vos for contada.
6 For lo, I am rousing the Chalde'ans, that bitter and hasty nation, who march through the breadth of the earth, to seize habitations not their own.
6 Pois eis que suscito os caldeus, nação amarga e impetuosa, que marcham pela largura da terra, para apoderar-se de moradas que não são suas.
7 Dread and terrible are they; their justice and dignity proceed from themselves.
7 Eles são pavorosos e terríveis, e criam eles mesmos o seu direito e a sua dignidade.
8 Their horses are swifter than leopards, more fierce than the evening wolves; their horsemen press proudly on. Yea, their horsemen come from afar; they fly like an eagle swift to devour.
8 Os seus cavalos são mais ligeiros do que os leopardos, mais ferozes do que os lobos ao anoitecer são os seus cavaleiros que se espalham por toda parte; sim, os seus cavaleiros chegam de longe, voam como águia que se precipita a devorar.
9 They all come for violence; terror of them goes before them. They gather captives like sand.
9 Eles todos vêm para fazer violência; o seu rosto suspira por seguir avante; eles reúnem os cativos como areia.
10 At kings they scoff, and of rulers they make sport. They laugh at every fortress, for they heap up earth and take it.
10 Eles escarnecem dos reis; os príncipes são objeto do seu riso; riem-se de todas as fortalezas, porque, amontoando terra, as tomam.
11 Then they sweep by like the wind and go on, guilty men, whose own might is their god!
11 Então, passam como passa o vento e seguem; fazem-se culpados estes cujo poder é o seu deus.
12 Art thou not from everlasting, O LORD my God, my Holy One? We shall not die. O LORD, thou hast ordained them as a judgment; and thou, O Rock, hast established them for chastisement.
12 Não és tu desde a eternidade, ó Senhor , meu Deus, ó meu Santo? Não morreremos. Ó Senhor , para executar juízo, puseste aquele povo; tu, ó Rocha, o fundaste para servir de disciplina.
13 Thou who art of purer eyes than to behold evil and canst not look on wrong, why dost thou look on faithless men, and art silent when the wicked swallows up the man more righteous than he?
13 Tu és tão puro de olhos, que não podes ver o mal e a opressão não podes contemplar; por que, pois, toleras os que procedem perfidamente e te calas quando o perverso devora aquele que é mais justo do que ele?
14 For thou makest men like the fish of the sea, like crawling things that have no ruler.
14 Por que fazes os homens como os peixes do mar, como os répteis, que não têm quem os governe?
15 He brings all of them up with a hook, he drags them out with his net, he gathers them in his seine; so he rejoices and exults.
15 A todos levanta o inimigo com o anzol, pesca-os de arrastão e os ajunta na sua rede varredoura; por isso, ele se alegra e se regozija.
16 Therefore he sacrifices to his net and burns incense to his seine; for by them he lives in luxury, and his food is rich.
16 Por isso, oferece sacrifício à sua rede e queima incenso à sua varredoura; porque por elas enriqueceu a sua porção, e tem gordura a sua comida.
17 Is he then to keep on emptying his net, and mercilessly slaying nations for ever?
17 Acaso, continuará, por isso, esvaziando a sua rede e matando sem piedade os povos?
