1 Then Jerubbaal, the same, is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and encamped by the fountain of Harod,and, the camp of Midian, was on the north of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the vale.
1 Jerobaal, isto é, Gedeão, levantando-se no dia seguinte bem cedo, foi acampar na fonte de Harad com todo o povo que o acompanhava. O acampamento madianita encontrava-se ao norte da colina de Moré, na planície.
2 And Yahweh said unto Gideon, Too many, are the people that are with thee, for me to deliver the Midianites into their hand,lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand, hath saved me.
2 O Senhor disse a Gedeão: A gente que levas contigo é numerosa demais para que eu entregue Madiã em suas mãos. Israel poderia gloriar-se à minha custa, dizendo: foi a minha mão que me livrou.
3 Now, therefore, proclaim, I pray thee, in the ears of the people, saying, Whoso feareth and tremblethlet him turn and go hack from Mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty-two thousand, and, ten thousand, remained.
3 Manda, pois, publicar este aviso para que todos o ouçam: quem for medroso ou tímido, volte para trás e deixe a montanha de Gelboé. Vinte e dois mil homens voltaram, ficando ainda dez mil.
4 Then said Yahweh unto GideonYet, are the people too many, take them down unto the waters, that I may prove them for thee, there,and it shall be, that, he of whom I say unto thee, This one, shall go with thee, the same, shall go with thee, and, every one of whom I say unto thee, This one, shall not go with thee, the same, shall not go.
4 O Senhor disse a Gedeão: Ainda há gente demais. Faze-os descer às águas, e ali farei uma escolha. Aquele que eu te disser que irá contigo, este te seguirá; e aquele que eu não te designar, ficará.
5 So he took down the people unto the waters,and Yahweh said unto GideonEvery one that lappeth with his tongue of the water, as a dog lappeth, thou shalt set him by himself, likewise, every one that boweth down upon his knees, to drink.
5 Gedeão fez, pois, descer o povo junto às águas e o Senhor disse-lhe: Porás à parte todos aqueles que lamberem a água com a língua, como faz o cão, e de outro lado aqueles que se puserem de joelhos para beber.
6 And so it was, that, the number of them that lapped with their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men,but, all the rest of the people, bowed down on their knees, to drink water.
6 Ora, o número dos que lamberam a água, levando-a com a mão à boca, foi de trezentos homens; todo o resto do povo se pusera de joelhos para beber.
7 Then said Yahweh unto GideonBy the three hundred men that lapped, will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thy hand; and let, all the people, go every man to his own place.
7 O Senhor disse a Gedeão: Com os trezentos homens que lamberam a água, vos salvarei, e entregarei Madiã nas tuas mãos. Todo o resto do povo volte para a sua casa.
8 So the people took provisions in their hand, and their horns, but, every man of Israel besides, sent he away every man to his home, whereas, the three hundred men, he retained. Now, the camp of Midian, was beneath him in the vale.
8 Gedeão guardou os víveres do povo e suas trombetas, e despediu todos os israelitas, cada um para a sua tenda, só conservando os trezentos homens. O acampamento madianita estava embaixo, na planície.
9 And it came to pass, on that night, that Yahweh said unto him, Arise! go down against the camp,for I have delivered it into thy hand.
9 Durante a noite seguinte, o Senhor disse a Gedeão: Levanta-te e ataca o acampamento, porque to entregarei.
10 Or, if, thou, art afraid to go down, go downthou and Purah thy young man, unto the camp;
10 Todavia, se tens medo de descer só, leva contigo Fara, teu servo.
11 so shalt thou hear what they shall say,and, afterward, shall thy hands grow strong, and thou shalt go down against the camp. Then went he down, he and Purah his young man, unto the outmost part of the armed men that were in the camp.
11 Ouvirás o que eles dizem, e sentir-te-ás assim encorajado para atacar o acampamento. Gedeão desceu, pois, com Fara, seu servo, até onde estavam os postos avançados do acampamento.
12 Now, the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the sons of the east, were lying along in the vale, like locusts for multitude,their camels also, were without number, as the sand that is by the sea side, for multitude.
12 Ora, os madianitas, os amalecitas e todos os filhos do oriente estavam espalhados pelo vale, tão numerosos como gafanhotos, e seus camelos eram também inumeráveis como a areia das praias.
13 And Gideon came in, and lo! a man relating to his neighbour a dream,and he saidLo! a dream, have I dreamt, and lo! a round cake of barley bread tumbling into the camp of Midian, and it came as far as the tentand smote it that it fell, and turned it upside down, and the tent lay along.
13 No momento em que Gedeão se aproximou, um homem estava justamente contando um sonho ao seu companheiro: Eis, dizia ele, o sonho que tive: um pão de cevada rolava sobre o acampamento de Madiã e, chocando-se com a tenda, lançou-a completamente por terra. O companheiro respondeu:
14 Then responded his neighbour and said:Nothing else, is this, than the sword of Gideon son of Joash, a man of Israel,God hath delivered into his hand, both Midian and all the host.
14 Isso não é outra coisa senão a espada de Gedeão, filho de Joás, o israelita. Deus entregou em suas mãos Madiã e todo o acampamento.
15 And it was so, when Gideon heard the story of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he bowed himself down,and returned unto the camp of Israel, and saidArise! for Yahweh hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.
15 Tendo ouvido a narração e a interpretação desse sonho, Gedeão prostrou-se por terra. Voltou ao acampamento israelita e disse: Levantai-vos, porque o Senhor vos entregou nas mãos o acampamento dos madianitas!
16 And he divided the three hundred men, into three companies,and put horns into the hands of them all, with empty pitchers, and torches inside the pitchers.
16 Dividiu os trezentos homens em três grupos, e pôs nas mãos de todos trombetas e ânforas vazias, levando estas dentro uma tocha acesa.
17 Then he said unto them, On me, shall ye look, and, in like manner, shall ye do,and lo! when I am coming unto the outermost part of the camp, then shall it be, that, as I do, so, shall ye do.
17 Olhai para mim, disse ele, e fazei como eu. Quando eu chegar aos limites do acampamento, fazei o que eu fizer.
18 When I shall blow with the horn, I and all who are with me, then shall, ye also, round about all the camp, blow with your horns, and shall say, For Yahweh and for Gideon!
18 Tocarei a trombeta com aqueles que me acompanham, e então tocareis também as vossas em volta de todo o acampamento, gritando: Pelo Senhor e por Gedeão!
19 So Gideon came, and the hundred men that were with him, unto the outermost part of the camp, at the beginning of the middle watch, they had but, newly set, the watchers,and they blew with the horns, and brake in pieces the pitchers, that were in their hand.
19 Gedeão com seus cem homens chegou aos limites do acampamento no princípio da segunda vigília, quando se rendiam as sentinelas, e começaram a tocar as trombetas, quebrando ao mesmo tempo as ânforas que tinham na mão.
20 Yea the three companies blew with the horns, and shivered the pitchers, and caught holdwith their left handsof the torches, while, in their right hands, were the horns, to blow with,and they cried, A sword for Yahweh, and for Gideon!
20 Então os três batalhões tocaram {também} as trombetas e quebraram as ânforas. Tomando as tochas na mão esquerda e as trombetas na direita para tocar, gritaram: À espada pelo Senhor e por Gedeão!
21 And they stood still, every man in his place, round about the camp,and all the host ran and shouted, and fled.
21 Cada um ficou em seu lugar, ao redor do acampamento; todo o acampamento se pôs a correr e fugiram, gritando.
22 When the three hundred blew the horns, Yahweh set the sword of every man, against his neighbour, and against all the host,and the host fled, as far as the Place of Acacias, towards Zererath, as far as the border of Abel-meholah, by Tabbath.
22 Os trezentos homens continuavam a tocar as trombetas, enquanto, por todo o acampamento, o Senhor fez com que os madianitas voltassem a espada uns contra os outros, e o exército fugiu até Bet-Seta, para os lados de Sarera, e até os limites de Abel-Mehula, junto de Tebat.
23 And the men of Israel were called together, out of Naphtali and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh,and pursued Midian.
23 Juntaram-se então aos israelitas as tribos de Neftali e de Aser e todo o Manassés, e perseguiram os madianitas.
24 And, messengers, did Gideon send through all the hill country of Ephraim, sayingGo down to meet Midian, and capture, before them, the waters, as far as Beth-barah, and the Jordan. So all the men of Ephraim were called out, and captured the waters, as far as Beth-barah, and the Jordan.
24 Gedeão enviou mensageiros por todo o monte de Efraim, para dizer: Descei ao encontro dos madianitas e cortai-lhes a passagem das águas até Betbera, e até os vaus do Jordão. Juntaram-se, pois, os homens de Efraim e ocuparam as passagens até Betbera, e igualmente os vaus do Jordão.
25 And they captured the two princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb, and slew Oreb at Orebs Rock, and, Zeeb, they slew at Zeebs Winepress, and pursued Midian,and, the heads of Oreb and Zeeb, brought they in unto Gideon at the ford of the Jordan.
25 Tendo capturado dois chefes madianitas, Oreb e Zeb, mataram Oreb no rochedo de Oreb, e Zeb no lagar de Zeb. E continuaram a perseguir os madianitas, levando as cabeças de Oreb e de Zeb a Gedeão, no outro lado do Jordão.
